This is my brain child, feel free to steal for your own journals!

This is the Fanfic Throwback challenge! Copy and paste this to your journal, along with a list of "past" pairings that you will ask your flist to give you prompts for. "Past" pairings don't have to be from dead shows, just pairings you'd like to revisit that you haven't written in a while. Depending on the fandom, that could be anywhere from six months to several years! Use some of the prompts, all of them, or none of them. The real point of this is to challenge yourself to reach back in time and grace your flist with a blast from your own personal (near or distant) fanfic past! Post them to your journal whenever you finish, stagger them, or post them all at once!

PROMPT ME
Claire/Jack (LOST)
Claire/Jack/Sawyer (LOST)
Alex/Richard (LOST)
Kara/Leoben (BSG)
Caroline/Stefan (The Vampire Diaries)
Alpha/Echo (Dollhouse)
Jeremy/Elena+ (The Vampire Diaries)
Caroline/Stefan/Tyler (The Vampire Diaries)
Sam/Galen (BSG)
Sam/Ellen (BSG)
Brad/Walt (Generation Kill)
Chuckler/Leckie (The Pacific)
Jessica/Bill (True Blood)
John/Ronon (Stargate: Atlantis)
Olivia/Charlie (Fringe)

(Can't promise I will write all of these pairings, but I will certainly give all of them some serious thought!)
krickets: (KILLING. we're back here again.)
[livejournal.com profile] ozmissage gave me this meme after lengthy discussions about "what our shipping and character preference say about us." This one's just about characters, maybe I'll alter it and do a "pairings" one later.

List fifteen (or however many) of your favorite characters from different fandoms and ask people to spot patterns in your choices, if they're so inclined.

Not a comprehensive list, more of a sampling.
Duke Crocker, Haven
Gale Hawthorne, The Hunger Games (books)
Stephen Holder, The Killing
Chon McAlister, Savages & Kings of Cool (books)
Sawyer Ford, Lost (pre-season 5, sorry guys)
Kenzi, Lost Girl (picking only one from this fandom was hard... because Tamsin!)
Pacey Witter, Dawson's Creek
Felix, Orphan Black
Topher Brink, Dollhouse
Hanna Marin, Pretty Little Liars
Fiona Gallagher, Shameless US (also a hard choice! because Karen! And Lip! But mostly Karen.)
Clayton "Jonesy" Jones, Carnivale
Brad Colbert, Generation Kill
Buffy Summers, Buffy the Vampire Slayer
Veronica Mars, Veronica Mars
Kara Thrace, Battlestar Galactica
Katherine Pierce, The Vampire Diaries
Cristina Yang, Grey's Anatomy
Brian Kinney, Queer as Folk US
Malcolm Reynolds, Firefly

For the record, there were certain fandoms *cough*FridayNightLights*cough* that I just couldn't pick one favorite character. It was just too cruel.

krickets: (HAVEN. staring at a ghost.)
Which TV shows did you start watching in 2012?
2 Broke Girls, Sports Night, Fresh Meat*, Once Upon a Time, Girls, The Newsroom, Jane By Design, Teen Wolf, Pretty Little Liars, Game of Thrones, Bent (OMG SIX EPISODES WAS WAY TOO LITTLE!), The Lizzie Bennet Diaries, Catfish, Switched at Birth* and probably a ton of other stuff I can't remember.

* - I actually can't remember if this was early 2012 or late 2011.

Which TV shows did you let go of in 2012?
Happy Endings: I just couldn't get into s2 so I quit watching before the end.
Teen Wolf: By the end of the second season I was incredibly annoyed by some of the plotting on this show. I got all the way through it, but overall the final arcs just didn't do it for me. I might change my mind if season 3 has a good start, but I'll be going into it as someone who has essentially given up.
Game of Thrones: I watched season 1 on HBOGo but I don't like it enough to watch season 2.
Raising Hope & The Glades: Don't hate these shows, and I'd probably watch them again if I had the chance. I just don't feel that drive to watch every episode like I do with other shows and they fell by the wayside because of it.
Parks & Rec, Revenge, The Hour: I haven't been watching these, but I plan to catch up eventually!

Which TV shows did you mean to get into but didn't in 2012? Why?
Elementary: Short story, before I had a chance to watch any of this I realized it was a police procedural which isn't something I typically like.
House of Lies: No reason, just never got to watch it.

Which TV shows do you intend on checking out in 2013?
If I knew what shows were coming out in 2013 I'd be able to answer this better.

Which TV show impressed you least in 2012?
The only show I really quit watching because I didn't really like was Game of Thrones. I guess you could say I was underwhelmed because of the hype surrounding it but I don't know if you could say I was "unimpressed." It just wasn't something I liked. Other shows which I formerly watched annoyed me because of things they did which I only heard about through the grapevine. (I'm looking at you, SOA.) Which hardly counts.

Which TV show did you enjoy the most in 2012?
This is hard to answer. It comes and goes. The Newsroom was pretty good. But my old shows have their moments too. Maybe Parenthood. Certain moments of that show bring it so close to perfection that it's hard to believe more people I know don't watch it. Then there was the mixture of "this is uncomfortable" and "this is fucking fantastic" that was Shameless season 2. So idk, idk. TV IS GOOD, basically?
krickets: (HAVEN. we're not troubled. not troubled.)

Hi guys! I'm back for my bi-weekly visit!
(Is it wrong to have an OT3 for Singin' in the Rain?)

First of all, I need to say that I miss writing fic like you wouldn't believe. I think I might try and do that more often. Like tell myself I'll at least write a drabble a week if nothing else. I need to keep my hand in. I feel so out of it and it makes me sad. So yeah. No less than a drabble a week until the end of the year? I think I can commit to that completely achievable goal.

Second of all, here's a brief list of stuff I NEED IN MY LIFE RIGHT NOW (or maybe I just need to buckle down and write it myself, take note):

- Matt/Elena (TVD), feeding turns to *ahem* fic. (Because it needs to happen.)
- Duke/Audrey (Haven), basically anything with angst and shirts on the floor and stuff (and actually [livejournal.com profile] mollivanders wrote this amazing fic, so I suppose its my turn?)
- Alex/Arizona (Greys), I would write this myself but they make me too distressed. DISTRESSED. Cannot wait for next week's episode.
- Lemon/Wade or Lemon/Lavon, I'll take either. (Come to think of it Wade/Annabeth would be awesome.)
- Ruby/David (OUAT), I am preparing to dodge rotten tomatoes on this one.
- Um, these guys:

I have been sick (with a cold!) these last two days which somewhat explains my extended time online. I ended up having a chance to finish marathoning season 1 of Once Upon a Time and catch up with the first three eps of season 2. I did not expect to like that show that much. I will admit that because of the nature of the show often focusing on one character's backstory during season 1 a handful of episodes did drag for me. But most of all I loved it to bits. Especially all of the powerful, female characters, despite the fact that some of them are based on helpless damsel-in-distress princesses. It's fantastic. And magical. /cheese.

Speaking of television, I still haven't been watching any sitcoms, and I did not pick up any of the new shows this season. Why? Well, I don't know. I told [livejournal.com profile] slybrunette that I'm probably subconsciously rejecting new TV because I am still pissed about The Killing. God, it still hurts. A lot.

Lately I keep thinking about how I'm excited for Shameless and The Newsroom to come back even though I know that won't happen until next year sometime for both shows. Come to think of it, I'm not sure I ever told you guys I marathoned The Newsroom a couple of months ago and loved it.

There are a lot of mirroring critics out there all saying kind of the same thing. But I watch a lot of television and movies and this show is no worse at writing women than at least 70% of what's out there, so I feel like a lot of the chorus is unfounded. Seems like the expectations are just so incredibly high because it's HBO and it's Aaron Sorkin at the same time. Coupled with the fact that Sorkin has said some not-so-awesome things publicly that have gotten him a lot of flack for the same issues so people are more eager to criticize his work. I also really love Sloan Sabbith played by Olivia Munn who apparently has her own critics... for being a girl, famous, and hot? (As far as I can tell!) Basically my reaction to both things can be illustrated by the following GIF:

Not to end on a sour note, here's a meme I stole from [livejournal.com profile] mollivanders, with some alterations.

Comment with one of my ships and I’ll tell you:

1) who cooks normally?:
2) how often do they fight?:
3) what do they do when they’re away from each other?:
4) nicknames for each other?:
5) who is more likely to pay for dinner?:
6) who steals the covers at night?:
7) what would they get each other for gifts?:
8) what crime would they commit together?:
9) who made the first move?:
10) who remembers things?:
11) who is the big spoon/little spoon?:
12) who swears more?:
13) what would they do if the other one was hurt?:
14) what are their bad couple habits?
15) what's their morning routine?

1. Open up your music player. Hit shuffle.
2. Record the first few lines of the first thirty twenty songs that come up that do not give away the name of the song. Skip instrumentals, but don't skip the embarrassing ones. [I'm personally skipping all the obvious Christmas jams too.]
3. Ask hapless LJ denizens to guess the song names and artists. Google is cheating. For musical songs, the name of the musical is acceptable in place of the artist.
4. Least hapless LJ denizen wins admiration.

Day 28 – Have you ever collaborated with anyone else, whether writing together, or having an artist work on a piece about your fic? Sort of. Graphics and fan mixes inspired by fics and vice versa. But closest thing to a real collaboration is when Dayln made Tower Over Me, a vid inspired by my BSG Sam/Duck fic Carve Your Name Into My Arm. Guh, love that vid.

Day 29 – What is your current project or projects? Everything got a bit derailed, and I had to drop out of vacation fic, but I am working on some belated comment fic from last week. By "working on" I mean it's sitting in my drafts folder waiting for me to go look at it again. Sigh. I also have this horribly convoluted idea for my Vampire Diaries bang bang fic which is stewing.

Day 30 – Do you have a favorite fic you've written? What makes it your favorite? And don't forget to give us a link! No, no. No? I don't know.

Day 23 – When you post, where do you post to? Just your journal? Just an archive? Your own personal site?
Here. And archive of our own when I remember.

Day 24 – Betaing – How many betas do you like to use to make sure there aren't any major flaws in your fic? Do you have a Beta horror story or dream story?
Usually just one. When it's not supposed to be comment/fest fic which is timely, and if it's longer than a thousand words I try to get [livejournal.com profile] kmousie to beta for me. And also? She is my dream beta. *squishes her* Seriously? Best beta reader ever. First and last. It's like a love story, she and I.

Day 25 – Music – Do you listen to music while you write? Do you make playlists to get into a certain "mood" to write your fic? Do you need noise in general? Or do you need it completely quiet?
Yes, and yes. Once I get on a real roll though I sometimes have to turn the music off and just focus.

Day 26 – What is the oddest (or funnest) thing you've had to research for a fic?
Uh... Um. Research?

Day 27 – Where is your favorite place to write, and do you write by hand or on the computer?
Sometimes both. I like to make up notes and brainstorming and bits of dialog that might come to me by hand, but for convenience sake I end up at the computer to do the bulk of the writing.

Day 8 – Do you write OCs? And if so, what do you do to make certain they're not Mary Sues, and if not, explain your thoughts on OCs.
No I don't write OCs. Not generally and definitely not as main characters. I don't really have any interest in reading them in fanfic either, not because I dislike how they're written, but when I'm reading fanfic it's usually to read about a specific pairing or specific characters that I know in canon and in that context, OCs don't interest me.

Day 9 – Pairings – For each of the fandoms from day two, what are your three favorite pairings to write? (I'll just pick my most-written fandoms for this.)

Vampires: Caroline/Stefan/Tyler, Caroline/Tyler, Caroline/Stefan (a tad redundant, I know)
Lost: Claire/Jack, Claire/Jack/Sawyer, Alex/Richard
Battlestar Galactica: Kara/Leoben, Chief/Sam, and if I got off my ass and wrote them ever, Sam/Ellen Tigh (I write them lots in my head!)

Day 10 – Pairings – Have you ever gone outside your comfort zone and written a pairing you liked, but found you couldn't write, or a pairing you didn't like, and found you could?
This has happened a few times, but nothing life-altering. I've definitely written pairings I never thought I would write and it ended up coming very easily to me. Leo/Veronica was one and River/Jayne was another. But single one-shots hardly count, do they?

Day 11 – Genre – do you prefer certain genres of fic when you're writing? What kind do you tend to write most?
I'm pretty addicted to post-apoc type stories and road stories. It's my thing. I can't help myself.

Day 12 – Have you ever attempted an "adaptation" fic of a favorite book or movie but set in a different fandom?
No. Never.

Day 13 – Do you prefer canon or fanon when you write? Has writing fanfic for a fandom changed the way you see some or even all of the original source material?
I think the AU nature of the vast majority of my pairings sort of dictates that I have to stray pretty far from canon. But that's okay. I like it there! And I don't think it's changed the way I see fanon per se... I guess in some ways, especially with Lost, fic was always so much better than the real thing to me. But I kind of have a feeling that would be true even if I was writing canon stories set in mostly canon timelines.

Day 14 – Ratings – how high are you comfortable with going? Have you ever written higher? If you're comfortable with NC-17, have you ever been shocked by finding that the story you're writing is G-rated instead?
I have written NC-17 though I wouldn't say I'm exactly comfortable with it. I am just not that great at it to tell the truth. As smutty as some of my fic gets, it's probably smuttier in my head. I just can't always bring myself to get too detailed in my descriptions. Haha. It's just easier to be vague because then I don't have to think about it logistically and make it lose all of its magic. Yes, I said magic.

Day 15 – Warnings – What do you feel it most important to warn for, and what's the strangest thing you've warned for in a fic?
Can I skip this question? That's how I feel about warnings. I think the weirdest thing I've had to warn for recently was a kind of "sex with violence" thing. Not non-con, not sexual abuse, etc. But I warned for it, because I didn't want people to yell at me if I didn't. I... I am still messed up over it. The only warnings I feel are absolutely necessary are warnings for rape/sexual abuse and warnings for character death. But that last one kills me, honestly. (Should I have warned for that?) I will definitely put any warnings I give to my text in the future in "highlight to read" text. But they still bug me.

I will never finish this if I literally do one a day so I'll see if I can take them two-by-two!

Day 1
How did you first get into writing fanfic, and what was the first fandom you wrote for? What do you think it was about that fandom that pulled you in?

The first fandom I legitimately wrote fic in was Dawson's Creek. It was almost all Pacey and Joey. And it's all completely gone. Vanished. I think I maybe wrote a half a dozen fics? One was a WIP Joey/Pacey that I never finished. Sadly. And P/Jo as we called them was definitely what pulled me in. But truthfully, my favorite fic I wrote, and it was probably terrible, was this AU Abby Morgan/Dawson Leery multi-chapter fic. I don't know how I ended up shipping two people I more-or-less hated, but it happened. And it was glorious. I think two people in all creation might have read that. I think that was the start of my random-ass-pairings fetish. Seriously. Dawson/Abby. We all have to start somewhere, right?

But actually come to think of it, the ladies who wrote for places like Pacey Porn (which was an actual legitimate website -- although, BEWARE I think it's actually a porn site now) wrote for every pairing you could think of -- and I think that may have also influenced the random/multi-shipperiness of me.

Day 2
Name the fandoms you've written in, and how much you've written in that fandom, and if you still write in it.

- Dawson's Creek / Unknown (maybe 6?) / Nope!

- The Vampire Diaries / 12 / Very much so!

- Lost / 87 (+2 Crossovers) / Yes. Not as much as I should.
Only one of these is multi-chapter (Jack/Sun!) There are fics of a series that live in the same 'verse, but they were all written as "one shots" or "one offs."

- Dollhouse / 5 / I'm not ruling it out.

- Harper's Island / 5 / I kind of doubt it as the fandom is pretty much dead. But maybe!

- Battlestar Galactica / 20 (+4 Crossovers) / There is always the possibility but I don't think I can bring myself to do it.

i can't believe this requires a cut - 16 more fandoms under the cut making 22 total )
