New header from [livejournal.com profile] gigglemonster:

The Shephards.
They're pretty.

Does anybody know how to do that rotating header business? I am considering it.

→ I am four episodes into The West Wing. I have no clue why the hell I'm watching another TV show but I have this theory that it's my alter-ego's secret plot to keep me from writing or being creative in any way at all. Sadly, I lack the willpower to put a stop to these sorts of shenanigans. This may have something to do with the fact that I think I kind of love everyone so far.

→ I don't usually go all public announcement on your asses regarding birthdays. I used to try, but I always ended up forgetting and then I'd feel bad. But she's bestest, so I have no choice! Happy Birthday [livejournal.com profile] dayln03!!! Guess what!?!? I got you a PONY! (It's being shipped, don't worry! Actually, I got you two ponies. I named them Chuck and Olive.)

→ You know what I never got? bb! I mean. I understand what it means, but when I see it, I think of her, always.

→ I decided to disable the custom comment pages on my journal. They're more user friendly right? That was the purpose of doing so anyway. We'll see how it works out.

→ For those who haven't seen it and aren't a member, [livejournal.com profile] lenina20 posted an entry about shipping and writing in LOST at [livejournal.com profile] thequillstation. There was also a nice discussion by [livejournal.com profile] falafel_fiction the other week about carrying on when canon disappoints. Both great reads and great discussions in the comments. I haven't participated nearly enough in that community.

→ Another thing I wanted to link to when it was first posted but never got around to doing, was a vidding documentary created by [livejournal.com profile] laurashapiro, Francesca Coppa, OTW and MIT. Very cool.

→ I haven't watched the last two eps of FNL, though I hear they're awesome! I also haven't watched the latest episode of SGA. I'd say I'd do that today, but I think I'm gonna hold out until I get some writing done. I'll reward myself with TV. (We'll see how that pans out, hah.)

→ Speaking of FNL, have you guys seen THIS crazy/awesome promo by DirecTV? Crazy! I just might love it.

krickets: (bsg | apollo's a pimp)
[livejournal.com profile] viridian linked to this streaming site of adorable lion cubs and their momma! I could totally just watch them sleeping, the steady rhythm of their breathing. But right now they're playing. When she cleans them? OMG! Her tongue is so huge compared to their little bodies! Adorable!

I don't know what I did, but [livejournal.com profile] dayln03 posted me a pretty people picspam, several members of the bsg cast (callum, katee, douglas, trucco, helfer, park, tahmoh...) along with Joe Flanigan, who is the "which one of these things doesn't belong?" of the bunch. It's huge and beautiful!

[livejournal.com profile] purestvixen found this at fandom secrets and sent it to me (not sure of the actual LJ username, I've only been there like... twice...) I've re-uploaded it and it's behind the cut. Apparently, Leoben is a hot rapist... wtf? )
Seriously? I mean... wtf? I have heard something like this before but it still blows my mind. Are those the skiffy boards? I'm sort of glad I don't go there now.

I just want to elaborate, on the little vidding challege over here that Dayln posted last night. (We cut each other tiny bits of songs to vid to in ways we're not used to.)

What Dayln and I talked about was basically that we already have certain styles of our own and at this point it's hard to experiment. (At least for me.) Because there's less of that "let's see how this looks, it doesn't have to be perfect" mentality that there is when you first start vidding in the first place.

After a while, the level of creativity becomes more intensified, I think. At the same time, it's no longer about what looks "cool" and what new effect or trick you can "show off" but about what suits the story and about what looks "best." This can mean different things for different people, obviously. And since we are creatures of habit, (and fear!) we tend to stick to what we know. Even moreso when we do have an established audience (even a small one) that kind of knows what to expect of us.

For me, it was just a personal challenge. When we made them, we had no intention of ever showing them to anyone but each other. It wasn't a competition either. I guess we're just not wired that way. Haha.

That being said, I think that overall, Dayln's is the most successful out of this little experiment. (You could say that the basic elements of what she was trying to do are already present in her vids, so it was less of a departure, clip choice and clever cutting are par for the course in any vid - or you could say that she's just a superior vidder, which I happen to believe and tell her so on a daily basis.) In fact I liked it so much I told her she had to post it, but she wouldn't let me get away with not posting mine, so there it is.

Mine (a Firefly vidlet) is kind of all over the place in terms of style. But that was kind of the point, just to try different things.

Callum and HCL girls, perk up your ears! Dayln's little vidlet is a hot Joe/Billy romp to twenty-something seconds of Jealous of Your Cigarette by Hawksley Workman. Run, don't walk!
