I guess my issue with Castiel was (and is) slightly complicated.
Season three was an abomination. For various reasons. One being that it just sucked. And another being that there were a lot racism/sexism issues that kind of reached an all time high. (Or low, is probably a better way of putting it.) Which is saying a lot considering this show. People were pissed. Die hards were pissed. Angry, critical, etc. Then the other half of folks thought everyone was being too critical and were upset at them for harshing squees and whatnot.
I guess I was kind of in the middle. I wasn't super angry. It's Supernatural, please. But I was on board. It was kind of undeniable. So while I saw it as an issue/problem/annoying thing about the show. I wasn't about to get out the pitch forks. I was beyond caring because I was just mad at how bad the show sucked that season. Nevermind all the other stuff. And the finale was the worst. I mean, just horrid. So I said "never again" and gave it up.
And then when S4 comes out, everyone goes ga-ga over this new regular character they've added. A young, white, male. And somehow everyone is lulled into loving the show again. How funny. You didn't hear anymore discussion about race and gender. Nobody cared because Castiel was too shiny and new and "hot." And that? I dunno it infuriated me.
And it doesn't surprise me that you wouldn't be interested in this show at all. You actually like and value female characters.
