This is so achingly tender and well written. It's very believable too in that they are both brought together (albeit indirectly) by Ben. His actions seem to be questionable to both characters at times and I can see this as a very logical 'bonding point'.
The opening paragraphs of each segment, This is before the man she calls her father locks up the only person she's ever kissed, is cleverly done and gives extra weight to each scene. We know what is coming next which makes the characters struggle more poignant.
