They did bring up the taser explanation at the very end. But they were very ambigious in the filming of that scene as to whether or not the filmmakers believe or even wanted to highlight that aspect of the story.
They didn't film him as maliciously doing it, or even paint the officer who shot him as terribly aggressive (the other officer there, however, is another story) But they also, notably, didn't give him a "holy shit! what the hell just happened"/horrified moment that would suggest he was just as shocked as anyone what happened. So they stayed away from that controversy pretty deftly.
