Been watching all of the fun Supernatural wank this weekend. And I won't even mention anybody's names because I will never ever have that shit on my journal, kay?

But I think it is really godsdamn hilarious that the people who usually revel in every bit of personal information (knowing about an engagement and how it went down, details about people's friendships and relationships, where people spend holidays, whose brother's having a baby and when, etc. etc.) are the same people who cry foul when it's something not so nice that people are gossiping about.

I'm not even talking about the validity of whatever it is. But whining about how these things are a private matter? I mean, yes, of course it is. But, what about all that other stuff? Doesn't that count too? Isn't that kind of hypocritical?

It's like, you can't have both. It's all or nothing, got it? Because nobody would be talking about any of this crap if fans like yourself didn't care so much about this shit.

I'm sorry if this offends anyone on my flist, it isn't the intent. But...

Well you know this fandom, they'll wank over practically anything, so there's no surprise there. But the outright hypocrisy is just astounding. Like, most of the stuff people know is just scary. Like, HOW DO YOU KNOW THAT?

And I'm not saying there's anything particularly... wrong with that. I mean, sure it's kind of creepy on some level but I'm not really above it. It's our society. We are taught to obsess. And okay, before ckr I was never into the whole article-reading/caring-about-a-celebrity's-real-life, but now I kind of... get the fascination. LOL. But the difference is, well maybe I don't hold any delusions about the fact that these are real people and are not gods to be held up on a pedistal. I'm kind of the opposite. When I hear something unsavory, or scandalous, I kind of chuckle to myself and think, "heh, badass." But... then I always was a strange one...

To be honest, I can't say that I've ever experienced that kind of an obsession about any one person... mainly because I'm lazy and don't go actively looking for stuff. Like if there's something I wanna know for whatever reason, then I will but I haven't got them on RSS feeds and Google alerts or some shit. I just don't have the time or energy to care that much, you know?

Then again, a lot of people will have those kinds of delusions that these people are gods to be put up on pedestals - they can do no wrong UNTIL THEY DO WRONG. And then hoo baby you better not get in the fandom's way!

I'll be willing to admit I care far to much for someone who doesn't know these people at all. And I do feel silly about it. But it really is times like this when fandom feels like being back in high school. And I'm doing just what I did then -- keeping my head down and waiting for it to be over. *sigh* I don't miss high school one bit. I'm just glad that I don't have many big wheels in the SPN fandom on my flist, or it'd be a lot harder to avoid.

Yeah I'm not saying it's wrong to care. I do find the obsession over this particular couple a bit... silly. I mean, I get it. Adorableness. But at the same time I don't get it. The fangirling for these two is a bit overwhelming to me. A handful of fans or communities, I get, but this seems like the whole of the supernatural fandom, which is a heck of a lot.

But I guess my thing is, people are going to talk. And if you want to hear the good stuff, you can't stand on some moral high ground when these very human people, inevitably, do something (or go through something, or say something) that isn't perfect.

I don't know why we're such a peaceful lot. Maybe because when it's a small group, you can kind of enforce community mores through collective failure to pay attention, yes? No audience, no weirdos. I don't really know. Plus, the fact that fate and personal preference have kept Callum slightly obscure, helps. :)

Plus, it's a special love. I mean, yeah we think he's hot, but sometimes we just want to bake him things and make him fix his hair. *pets the shy*

Oh wow! So close! But yeah I would probably run away or say something really stupid or BOTH. I used to make fun of my pal Bradley because when we would go see shows in New York he would be SO SHY to get these autographs and pictures at the stage doors after, and I was just pretty... whatever about the whole thing. LOL. I practically had to hold his hand or do it myself! And it didn't truly phase me. Though, meeting famous people is WEIRD because it's like, you "know" them but they don't "know" you. (Using the term "know" loosely.) It's just... strange. But anyway, yeah I didn't think twice about it. But if it were Callum? Oh boy, I'd be heading for the hills.

I got kind of confused when I read a letter from Jared's girfriend to one of the fan talking about the break-up... I was like... is it real? I guess it's real...

It's like hysteria... things like these in fandoms keep growing and growing so even usually sane people just lose their minds... I just feel sorry for those two.

Now... to tell the truth I would relly like to know a little about Damien's love life... and would really love to know if this Mia girl is actually Mia Maestro or just a random girl... I think there's a huge distinction between taking an interest and taking it where so many supernatural fans take it. Which is personally. They take it personally, there's a huge sense of entitlement and denial and control about the whole fandom thing. Whether it's the show they're discussing or the actors. And that's just... nuts.
