→ I'm currently chilling at Panera Bread because the damn power in my house went out again. I swear, every time there is a storm, even if it's not raining at our place at that particular moment in time, our power goes out. And it's only a particular 50% of the neighborhood that goes out. Not a "geographical" half, but the same 50% of houses each time in random fashion. N&A who live halfway across the neighborhood from us always lose power too, but the guy across the street and four houses down from us never does [and neither do the whole row of houses past him]. Like clockwork. We seriously need to deal with these power company guys. This is no mere coincidence. Obviously something is very wrong.

→ I bought this let's call it "experimental" sandwich for dinner when I got here. I didn't want to pay that much for a full size so I bought the soup and sandwich combo where you get a half sandwich and a bowl of soup, but they charge you twice as much because of this particular sandwich. The sandwich was good, but the soup sucked. I should have just gotten the whole sandwich. At least I still have my apple to munch. I wish I didn't have to use the word "sandwich" so much in this paragraph but I've tried and there's really no way around it. Haha.

SONG SUGGESTIONS
Okay flist, I need your help. Give me suggestions for fun, fast-paced, upbeat songs. Also, fun/funny rap songs. Hopefully some with good beats and nice cinematic changes in pace, lol. Or not, whatever. I'm so much at a loss when it comes to music these days because I really haven't even come close to rebuilding my collection, which I lost a while back.

Funny, we're that house on the street that actually doesn't lose power. It's like the one time my family's ever been lucky about anything that doesn't have to do with money.

You might know these already because I am very unoriginal when it comes to music, but current song obsession of mine that wasn't written before 1975 is hatefuck by the Bravery. But it's not fun, nor does it have any cinematic changes in pace. But it does have a slightly awkward key-change. The other one is standing in the way of control by the Gossip, which also doesn't actually have much of what you're looking for, and while the singer is very talented, the background stuff is pretty bland. Wow, this doesn't so much read like a rec, does it?

I haven't heard any of them, actually! I don't think they're quite what I'm looking for but thanks for the new music suggestions, hehe. I am looking for a vid-song. My music collection is still pretty sparse since I lost all my music a while back.

I wish I was one of the houses that didn't lose power. So lucky.

Umm. Lately, I've been listening to LOTS of Future Island, especially In The Fall. It has a sorta 80's-David Bowie sound to them, if you're into that sorta thing. Some more really good songs are To The Lighthouse by Patrick Wolf, as well as Flux by Bloc Party.

Thanks!

I was going to upload some Nuttin But Stringz for you, but then I remembered I bought it on iTunes and I have no way to un-protect it for you (got any recs on how to fix that?). They're a hip-hop violinist duo from NYC, so you should definitely look them up. I really like "A Nu Day" and "Thunder."

The only way I know how to get around it is to burn it to a CD for yourself and then to re-rip it as MP3s after you're done. I don't know any other way to do it. Sounds promising I'll check it out!

You are going to vid! *claps hands*

[identity profile] crickets.livejournal.com 2010-08-06 01:44 am (UTC)(link)
Hahaha, maybe.

Any ideas?

I'm terrible at music. (Seriously, it's a wonder I ever discover songs.) But Clue! That would be so fun!

That sucks that your power went out again. And your soup sucked. Yuck!

I was trying to find songs for your new video:

"Murder by Numbers" by The Police

"Somebody Got Murdered" by The Clash

"Killers" by Iron Maiden

Maybe I'm concentrating too much on the killing part!

Are you up for sushi tomorrow after work?

[identity profile] crickets.livejournal.com 2010-08-06 02:21 am (UTC)(link)
Hahah, maybe! I will check all these out I don't think I've heard them.

That could be good! We'll talk about it tomorrow at work.

Fun, fast, upbeat: The Pixies; early Yeah Yeah Yeahs; Faith No More/Mr. Bungle/Tomahawk/anything Mike Patton has done ever; early Weezer; The Pogues (Rum, Sodomy, and the Lash is a personal favorite as is If I Should Fall From Grace With God); Bad Wizard; Thao Nguyen and the Get Down Stay Downs; Man Man; Neutral Milk Hotel; early Old 97s (Hitchhike to Rhome, Wreck Your Life, Early Tracks) ... or more in a pop-punk sort of vein: *The Descendants, *Propaghandi, NOFX, Bad Brains, Circle Jerks, *Operation Ivy, Dead Kennedys.

Fun/funny hip hop, with mad beats, philosophical, smart lyrics and SHIT TONS OF SASSITUDE: The Coup; Atmosphere; Blackalicious; Aesop Rock; Aceyalone; Hieroglyphics; Kool Keith/Dr. Octogon; Goodie Mob; early Outcast (ATLiens, Southernplayalisticadillacmusik); Mystik Journeymen; The Pharcyde.

My power went out the night before last. Ruined a perfectly good pork loin. I was going to stuff it with garlic and onions and roast it. I AM STILL PISSED ABOUT THAT.

Holy crap look at all of these suggestions. Definitely going to have to look a few of these things up even though I've already pretty much 99% chosen a song for my vid. You're awesome though.
