tvd: the birthday
Didn't this show just end? How is it back already? (Summer went by too fast!)
→ My apprehension about season three was all for nothing. Okay, not for nothing. They still have 22 episodes to fuck everything up, but this episode was good.
→ This is Damon's chance to legitimately redeem himself. So far he's doing that. Minus the fact that he was still carrying on with Andie. "I am not your slave." Thank you for getting irony, show. I have read some reactions about the episode and people are a little bit baffled at the fact that Damon was that upset over Andie. But I am pretty positive that is not why he was upset. He was upset because, like Elena, he thought that he could save Stefan, but he came face to face with his brother and realized that he just might not be able to. So while he probably felt guilty about Andie (for putting her in that position) and probably felt sympathy and sadness for her (I'm as shocked as anyone), the reason he flipped his shit is because HE LOST HIS BROTHER. Which was really fucking nice to see. As someone who normally doesn't give Damon any credit, I loved him in this episode. Keep this up, show, and I will be okay with whatever decisions you make.
→ The awkwardness between Caroline and Tyler needed to DIE. Thank goodness the sexual tension got squashed cause it was making me blush. "OH my gosh can you believe people think we're dating? How silly!" "Man oh man I am so horny all the time!" "Me too!" *awkward pause* I am telling myself they made it purposefully unbearable so that the hot, hot Caroline/Tyler sex later in the episode would seem warranted! And yes, they are sexy. And also pretty adorable together when they're not being weird. See: "Just because I tell you stuff doesn't mean you're allowed to know it!" Hahah, oh Caroline. They are going to be awesome together. Also, I pretty much loved Caroline being drunk and mean. She's still got it.
→ Matt and Jeremy next! I just want to say that I loved Zach Roerig in this episode. His sort of bleary-eyed ice-cream-craving adorable-ness was exactly what I wanted to see from him. It is nice to see that they are giving him something to do. Pairing him up with Jeremy is smart, and also hot. And logical, given Vicki. I so thought he was making a pass at Elena. I would not have objected. I easily can see her using him for comfort sex at some point during this season.
→ Wow! Bonnie literally phoned it in! How disappointing! Come back to us, Bonnie!
→ I needed more Anna and Vicki. Truth.
→ Klaus's mission to track down the wolves and turn them into hybrids makes me worried for Tyler. I am starting to enjoy his character more. (Even if he needs to die.) Also Joseph Morgan looked good in this episode. I don't have much to say about him.
→ Katherine? Elijah? Where are you? What are you doing? I will just pretend that Katherine saved him and they are off somewhere consummating their long-denied love.
→ I agreed with Klaus in that Stefan is still trying to protect his "family" (which I would argue includes Elena, at this point.) It was obvious as soon as he volunteered to go talk to Damon instead of Klaus. I am so glad we were able to see his struggle. He doesn't seem to want to be there and do what he is doing, but at the same time he appears to be doing this voluntarily. The fact that Klaus is oblivious to the fact that Elena is still alive may have something to do with it. I can see him giving up and just reveling in it later in the season, but you can tell that he's still Stefan. I just don't believe that he would lose himself completely so soon. That phone call at the end BROKE MY HEART. There were legitimate tears. Nina did so well with that. She really carried that scene. And it was just good to see that Stefan is still himself.
→ Elena. ♥ I still love you!
→ That last scene kind of came out of nowhere! Why must Caroline always be kidnapped/drugged/shot at, etc?!?! Liz had better show up next episode to lay down the law, so to speak.
→ That is all.

Plus, Caroline/Tyler! :) But seriously, people need to stop hurting and abducting Caroline.
And Jeremy bulked up overnight, my word.

They totally made it real, but especially Nina. I don't know, maybe she had a cold, but the way her voice broke up? Just wow. Outta the park, Nina!
Jeremy gets a make-over every season, hahaha.

(How cute was Alaric's freakout at the party, though??)

Yes please? I've always shipped them, for some reason.
And I feel like everyone's gotten even prettier! Which, um, not complaining.
I'm still not enjoying Klaus. I saw Joseph Morgan's name in the main credits and groaned. But I'm trying.

Everyone is always prettier! How is this possible?!?!
Haha I enjoyed Joseph's performance. I am not sold on Klaus yet.

(I question this because I am currently writing a fic where werewolves have the same ageless qualities as vampires, and I was wondering if they had said anything in canon about it.)

I haven't read the books, so I have no idea if it's addressed there. It probably isn't an issue there since Caroline is a human so their happily-every-after doesn't hinge on both of them being mortal or immortal. (Leaving aside the fact that high school sweethearts don't usually end up with each other "forever" in real life, since the show isn't operating on that premise, LOL.)

Caroline,my poor BB. Why does this always happen to her?

Ha! SAME. It was nice to see shades of the traits in her that the show would have painted as more "annoying" or super insecure in season 1 now being AWESOME in s3. BUT DAMMIT WHY MAMA LOCKWOOD WHY. I know why, but still. Heh.

I think I am the lone Caroline/Matt shipper who doesn't want Tyler/Caroline. Poor Caroline (because of the shooting, I mean).

I actually multi-ship. I am horrible and I ship Caroline and Tyler with a boat load of people, so I am not exactly picky. I enjoy their story on the show very much so and I think they've been thrown together in a realistic and interesting way, and at the same time it came unexpectedly (last season) so it totally works for me. But at the same time I also love Matt/Caroline. The way I figure it I will be happy no matter what happens.

ripper!Stefan is creepy and still awesome, retaining just enough guilt and feeling to make it extra!interesting
I like your take on why Damon was so upset at Andie and I agree, even though I do think that in a weird way he was fond of the girl.
I am really happy Matt seems to have more to do right now, I love it. it was such a waste when he had nothing.
Elijah needs to come back, he's made of awesome :)

ELIJAH! I missed him.
