And now for the important bits...

Old Movies
I've decided to start watching a bunch of old movies that I've never seen before because when else am I going to watch them? I started with North by Northwest, a random Abott and Costello (Cause I'd never seen one), and Singin' in the Rain (OMG, so good! Definitely my favorite so far), totally obscure thing called Dr. Renault's Secret, and I have a ton more on my Netflix queue, plus I've been going to the local library to raid their shelves. That's where I got Dr. Renault's Secret. This week I picked up Shop Around the Corner, And Then There Were None, and All the President's Men, which is a little more modern than most of the stuff I've been watching so far, but it still fits! I am really enjoying myself. I kind of love old movies, which I sort of already knew, but I never went out of my way to watch all the old classics (and the not-so-classics). Anybody got a favorite old movie I should definitely put on my list?

Etc.
Speaking of movies. I really wanna head to the theater to see Frankenweenie. There are several others that I want to see too, Looper being one of them. I need to do that this week or something. Except I am broke and probably can't afford to.

New Shows
I have not watched any of the new shows except The New Normal cause mom wanted to watch it. (Meh.) I really really want to watch Nashville though even though I feel like for some reason I shouldn't want to? I can't help it, it looks good and I love Connie Britton. Someone tell me which new shows are or are not worth checking out. Visual persuasion is welcome.

Returning Shows
I kind of suck because I have been going to bed between 8 and 9:30 on weeknights (and sometimes on weekends, too) and so watching prime time TV has become somewhat of a challenge for me. But so far I've seen:

- Revenge: Just the first episode back, but I loved it. Mildly-spoilery reaction is that I'm tickled pink that Nolan is moving in with Em. The end.
- Parenthood: Everything. This show is perfect in ways that most people just don't know because they don't watch. And that's a shame. I don't think I'll be missing any eps of this one. Also? Ray Romano is awesome, and that's a sentence I never ever thought I would utter... or type. Perfect show is perfect.
- Grey's Anatomy: Alex and Arizona. Is that the shipper goggles talking? Yes. But still. THE ANGST.
- Haven: I missed the 2nd episode back, but last Friday's ep slayed me. Duke. He will always and forever be my favorite.
- Switched at Birth: I've missed a few episodes, but can I just say that this line (paraphrase?): "Regina's not a friend. She's family." Just blew me away. John and Kathryn used to refer to Regina as "That woman!" This is so much better.
- Hart of Dixie: Lemon Breeland ♥! She was great in this ep. I feel kinda vindicated for liking her so much last season. I loved that line "That seems like a mindless domestic task. Right up my alley!" Dripping with sarcasm. Good for her. Also, her working at the Rammer Jammer gives me all kinds of Wade/Lemon vibes, which, truth be told was and is a closet ship of mine. I could definitely be into it.

I just watched that SaB ep today! I'm behind on HoD, though. One day I have to do a marathon. :-)

Hart of Dixie just premiered this week actually. So you should be good!

OMG OLD MOVIES!!! North by Northwest! Singin' in the Rain! And Then There Were None!!!!!!

(And Then There Were None is one of my all-time most favorite films EVER. I love it to bits.)

If you enjoy And Then There Were None and Little Shop Around the Corner, you should watch Rebecca and The Philadelphia Story, respectively. Also, pretty much everything Cary Grant was ever in was fantastic (he may or may not have been my first love). You also absolutely MUST watch the original (NOT the Mel Brooks remake) of To Be Or Not To Be.

I could wax poetic about the classics all day, so if you want more recommendations, just let me know. :)

[identity profile] crickets.livejournal.com 2012-10-20 08:45 pm (UTC)(link)
I will get back to you about recommendations once I have watched those three. I've already renewed them twice. Been a crazy 2 weeks!

KK. Also, I have followed you on twitter (I'm redwallabby there).

You are my go-to Alex and Arizona person. The goggles go on for those two!

Hee! Yay! I am so glad I am not the only one. (No I know I'm not <lj user="slybrunette" happily rides that train with us.) Also did you see this week's promo? She falls and HE CATCHES HER!

[identity profile] hollywoodgrrl.livejournal.com 2012-10-21 11:26 pm (UTC)(link)
LOL OMG I WAS ALL OVER THAT PROMO! Looks fuuun. Idk they have such a fascinating relationship.

Singin' In The Rain <3 <3 <3 Not only a great musical, but a great movie.

[identity profile] crickets.livejournal.com 2012-10-20 08:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Ugh I bought it on DVD and kind of can't get it out of my head. I LOVE the outfits too!

[identity profile] blighted-star.livejournal.com 2012-10-20 11:16 pm (UTC)(link)
LOL. I love all of Debbie's costumes. I want them.

[identity profile] crickets.livejournal.com 2012-10-20 11:20 pm (UTC)(link)
And the guys with their vests and sweaters. Just adorable.

If only people still dressed like that.

OLD MOVIES <3<3<3

It's so common that it's a cliche, but I love Casablanca. I also love The Philadelphia Story, and the musical remake High Society. Most people have a preference, but I just love both. I pretty much love almost anything with James Stewart in it. Of his movies I'd recommend Harvey, which is slow-moving but charming, and Mr. Smith Goes to Washington.

[identity profile] crickets.livejournal.com 2012-10-20 08:47 pm (UTC)(link)
I am adding these to my list. I know I've seen Mr. Smith but I think I should rewatch it. That was in like 9th grade civics class. AKA forever ago.

I can imagine it being kind of a dull movie to watch if you are young and have a short attention span. But it's awesome if you just adjust your expectations for how often in a movie exciting-action-things happen.

you always make me wanna try new shows I haven't seen, because I really trust your taste.

ETA: my favorite old movie was always The Big Sleep. Don't know if you've seen that one, but yup, my favorite.

Oh my gosh I hope I don't lead you astray! What shows were you thinking of trying?

Also, I am going to add that to my list!

[identity profile] lenina20.livejournal.com 2012-10-20 10:26 pm (UTC)(link)
I hope you'll like it - I adore it!

Also, Heart of Dixie and Revenge, as of those shows you talk about and I kind of want to see someday. ;)

I second the above movie recs, especially The Philadelphia Story, one of my favorites. The interplay between Cary Grant, Katherine Hepburn and Jimmy Stewart is so delightful. If you liked Singin' in the Rain, you should also watch An American in Paris, another brilliant Gene Kelly movie. I love Bette Davis and recommend All About Eve, Now, Voyager and Mr. Skeffington and anything else she's in. Also, anything with Bogart & Bacall is worth seeing - my favorite of theirs is To Have & Have Not. Cary Grant movies I love: Charade, To Catch a Thief, Notorious. OMG, I could go on & on, I love old movies!

I am basically in love with Gene Kelly now, so thank you for recommending An American in Paris. TOP OF THE LIST. Charade is on netflix streaming right now. I might actually watch that today!

I watched the first ep of Nashville. I liked it. I did kind of live there for three years though and I do kind of love country music. So maybe my opinion doesn't much count.

I like Elementary. But then - I'm obsessed with all three of the main actors.

[identity profile] crickets.livejournal.com 2012-10-20 08:51 pm (UTC)(link)
I watched it and wasn't overly drawn to it but I love Connie Britton so much I might be compelled to watch more. I think, to be honest, there was too much music in it for me. I mean, I love musicals, but when there's a concert scene in a movie/tv show I am always watching the clock waiting for it to end. I have no patience for it. I hope there's not so much of it throughout the series.

I'm tickled pink that Nolan is moving in with Em. The end.

Yes. Me too. :)

PARENTHOOD YES YES YES. I hate that so many people are missing out on this amazing show. It has blown me away this season so far - I was so moved I cried tears during three out of the four episodes. It really is perfect. The most emotionally fulfilling and beautifully acted show since FNL! (Thank you Jason Katims!)

[identity profile] crickets.livejournal.com 2012-10-20 08:53 pm (UTC)(link)
I was so sad it wasn't on this week. It's just been SO DAMN GOOD. And I am really excited for Amber and the veteran to hook up because you KNOW it's gonna happen. Matt Lauria was adorable in FNL and he's been great so far here.
