he asks about you every day

With every episode I am loving this season more and more, and this episode is no exception. I liked how tight this episode felt, because we were free of both Reddick and Twitch/Lyric so we could focus only on the case itself and Seward. Which, to me, is the same thing.

PRETTY STUFF
That opening sequence was so harrowing but also so beautiful and so The Killing. I really thought the driver was going to get it. I loved the barely-there image of the pursuer in the headlights. Chilling.

CASE STUFF
I did have a main suspect in mind, along with a few strays, a couple of episodes ago, but this episode made me suspect Reddick (for his absence) and I already suspected Skinner for no other reason than his desire to cover up the Seward connection to this case. So that just adds to the fray of all my other suspects (who shall remain nameless, because that's just too much speculation to get into) and basically I now think EVERYBODY DID IT. Which is clearly not what happened, but in my mind I'm tying to piece together how all of Seattle is in on it, and that's coming together nicely, just in case you were wondering where my whodunnit headspace was.

The girl they rescued in this episode was not Kallie, but going further than that, I'm 100% suspecting that she is not a victim of the Pied Piper and instead some kind of twisted copy-cat. This may not be possible given how much information the public may or may not know about the condition of the bodies, but the M.O. just seems all wrong. Doesn't the killer usually break the fingers/take the rings post mortem? And does he need to sharpen his trusty knife? Because her neck was all messed up, but not enough to kill her, let alone practically decapitate her. I am almost willing to bet they're going to discover that the knife used is not the same one. Unless the killer just got totally distracted by the fact that his dump site was found coupled with the fact that this girl somehow gave him the slip.

Joe Mills. I just don't know, Joe. Did you do it? How'd you get Kallie's phone? Questions. Questions.

CHARACTER STUFF
Alton's confession killed me. Pretty much. The complexities of that situation is one of the beautiful things about this show. Wanting forgiveness and finally getting it being a kind of curse on its own, because of the guilt. Of all the scenes this episode, that's the one I want to go back and re-watch.

Seward's reaction to Adrian's "forgiveness" was expected. I appreciated the foster mother's earnestness though. She just wants Adrian to see his father one more time before he dies. Her pleas to him were heartwrenching. And for once I was angry at Ray, even though I feel like I understand why he's doing it. All the walls he's put up will come crumbling down if he doesn't.

Bullet's journey in this episode was a tough one. Started out beautifully, with her outsmarting Linden and Holder with her "one turn at a time" directions, and bonding with Linden - I loved the North Star comment, and the quip about Holder being Linden's "man" - and ended with her realization that Kallie is probably dead. However I feel like dragging out the discovery of Kallie's body so long has to mean that she's still alive. Even though I'll probably be disappointed. But when Bullet was finally giving up, and Holder was comforting her, that scene didn't resonate as much with me because I feel like Kallie just might make it through. (God, I hope!)

Continue to love all the Bullet and Holder scenes. I don't know why but I got such a kick out of his "In the back! Always in the back." Line. That was so cute. And when her freak-out when he tries to tell her to lower her expectations. Poor thing. And of course that last scene, which I already mentioned.

Holder found his hoodie! I wish I could be happier about that. He better not live in it now. I mean, once in a while is okay but I will miss the hell out of that suit. Just saying.

Why do Holder and Linden have to hurt each other? "You spot it, you got it?" // "Is that one of your addict sayings?" I mean? OUCH YOU GUYS. Go easy on each other. You're practically all you've got! My shipper goggles are glued on. I can't take them off even when I try. Because the Bullet remark about Holder and Linden's relationship was cute, but then Linden's awkward total overreaction was way more than that. Bullet totally struck a chord. Somebody tell me I'm not imagining that. And that kind of was reinforced by the scene where Holder offered Linden to come over and eat (on Valentine's Day!), her lame excuse of not liking tofu (or whatever she said). It was just awkward in a way that they haven't been before and I feel like it means something this time. And then she showed up!!! And was obviously shocked/embarrassed by Caroline's presence, even though she was lovely and gracious. And then the Valentine's Day debacle. And yeah... Guys, please tell me this isn't all in my head?

About Linden and Holder - I honestly never interpreted it like that? I mean, when you put it like that, it sounds like they're telling us something but I really hope not because I really love their dynamic the way it is.
I think Linden coming over was just because of her running into Skinner and his family and she just felt alone and decided that she could go to Holder since he'd invited her anyway (and with it being so late, and she still had to take the ferry? or sth). She was surprised at Caroline being there because she forgot (she'd only seen her once before).
And the Valentine's Day thing was just 'are u srs Holder, get me outta here', I guess. Like an eyeroll away. :p I thought it was great!

The thing that scares me about Bullet though - I think they're setting it up that something's going to happen to her later on. What with Joel saying Holder was going to go down a dark path this season, plus the talk about the scars because that might be what'll be used to identify her later on? I really, really hope it doesn't happen, but I have a feeling it will.

And I looooooove the hoodie! But tbh, I'm not really much of a suits-fan :P

See, his offering her to come over, and her actually coming over after missing the ferry and the almost comic/awkwardness that happened when she was there, isn't really the thing that makes me think there might be something more to it. I could see those things happening either way, even as a shipper.

What makes me feel like there's something more, that the storytellers are trying to tell us something, is her reaction to Bullet's comment and to a lesser extent her reaction to him inviting her over. They could just be showing us that Linden is uncomfortable with the idea of them because she trusts him in a completely platonic way. But usually moments like these aren't written into the script if the writers don't want you to at least wonder if there's something else going on in terms of Linden's feelings about the matter.

I have a feeling you might be right about Bullet as much as I hate to admit it. I could see that happening, even though I am crossing my fingers it doesn't. I feel like maybe if Bullet disappears, the resolution of the season could be them saving Bullet and finding the killer in one fell swoop. I'm an optimist!

ETA: Actually, saving Bullet (or Kallie) could finally give Linden the resolution that she's been needing this whole time (what was that quote from the therapist's office? "They're dead. They don't need my help."?) And if Bullet does disappear, the search for her could very well be the dark path that Holder is supposed to go through.

Ha, it might also be just me having an obsession with good male/female friendships that such moments don't really jump out at me, but I agree that it does look like they're trying to tell us something.
I don't know though, I've always seen it as Linden seeing that Skinner has a family, Holder is happy, and she has nothing but troubles in her own. She tries to find companionship in Holder but remembers then oh wait, he has someone and I'm just in the way whereas before he didn't and she could always come to him without feeling she was interrupting him/them. She's always had him to herself before and this is something she's not used to yet.
I've definitely seen other people saying like 'are they hinting at...?' so I might just be getting things wrong. :P I'm so, so curious how the season is going to develop though. I am incredibly glad this gem of a show didn't stay cancelled.

The thing is - it'd be extra tragic if Bullet dissapears (and dies) en afterwards they end up finding Kallie alive after all.

Another great episode!

I read all the Holder/Linden stuff the same way you did, though I fully admit that my shipper bias makes me read it differently than non-shippers might have. But even so, I do think they were trying to tell us something with those moments. And if it's not lead-up to Holder/Linden, it might be foreshadowing of Linden finding love/going back to one of her ex's out of loneliness.

TERRIFIED that something awful is going to happen to Bullet. Possibly tied into Kallie maybe not being dead? Like, if Bullet gets some kind of sign/message that Kallie's still alive and goes after her without telling Holder + Linden, I could see her falling into the killer's hands.

Just watched World War Z yesterday, and now, I can't help imagine zombies invading Seattle. Also, there's this kickass character that Bullet is totally gonna grow up to be.

I really really love the case this season and how everything feels tighter (like you said) and how on the other hand there are so many options of who could be the killer (last year it was obvious someone from the political part had to be involved otherwise it would be a waste of a storyline, this year it could literally be anyone at this point) plus we have Seward as the ticking time bomb.

Mills was my number one suspect (that creepy comment about gloves - that was him right? - major warning bells) but now it's seem too obvious so IDK anymore. Maybe the guy who raped Twitch, although that doesn't really fit the MO but he had some weird comments too I think. I need to re-watch all the episodes again to better remember all the bit players but no time :(

Bullet and Holder were so so lovely but I'm still super worried something will happen to her and she'll be Holder's Adrian (you know, that one case that doesn't leave you). Linden and Bullet were also wonderful, the North Star comment was on point, there's no one more steady and reliable than Linden. AND THE RETURN OF THE HOODIE and Linden's smile when she saw it ♥

I do think they've been hinting kind of heavy on Holder/Linden although I'm fine either way if they go there or not, good female/male friendships are so rare anyway.

i don't generally see the holder/linden, but bullet's comment did make me wonder if the show was hinting at it. (and aside from anything else, i really loved her and linden's conversation. and holder saying "in the back! always in the back" was adorable. i like bullet a lot and i really hope nothing happens to her.) i thought linden's reaction to finding caroline at holder's place was "i'm interrupting a private couple moment and this is awkward" more than anything else, tho.

i don't have the first clue who the killer is. joe mills is way too obvious but i don't have any other suspects. i'm enjoying trying to figure it out, tho.

It is not all in your head. I already sort of rambled on your other post, but I am of the mind that every move these writers make is deliberate.

I'm actually suspecting the parole officer from 3x03 had something to do with the serial killers. Idk why specifically, but his rape of Twitch (there's a lot of rape this season, it's very discomfiting) said a lot about his views on and use of power.

The Killing is so stinking pretty.

I don't think he's the main suspect because everyone is so shady, but I think Francis Becker does even more things than abuse his family. He says he's working when he doesn't have a shift. That's either adultry or SERIAL KILLER behavior.

Bullet tears my heart out, stomps on it, then apologizes, and neatly puts it back in every episode.

The way Linden awkwardly ate the spaghetti stuff was hilarious during Holder's Valentine's Day Massacre. OMG, Emmy for spaghetti eating.
