vidding resources & fic recs
I've got a few recs here today.
First. There are some things for the few of you on my flist who are starting out in vidding. I know there are several of you who are wanting to vid or who are just starting out.
sol_se posted some useful links for the new vidders on her flist today and I thought I'd pass along the word to mine.
She mentioned
viddingnewbies, a community for those starting out. And as always
vidding is a great place to check out. Their memories are well organized and usually recently kept up so it's a great place to look for help. And
sol_se also has been kind enough to compile a fantastic list of all the vidding communities she could find! So that's an awesome entry to stick in your memories for future reference.
One of the most interesting/informative posts I've found on LJ about vidding is here, called Ten Things I Know about video editing, started by
lim, and many wonderful vidders have tossed their ten things into the mix over there. Well worth checking out!
And finally:
fic recs
pages out of print, a battlestar galactica fic by
lyssie
tory/leoben, r, 1300
"Tory knows she's supposed to hate him. And she does. She whispers her hatred against his skin every time they meet."
This fic really just blew me away. The way she interwove her storyline here with the canon New Caprica storyline is amazing and entirely plausable. It's just beautiful and in a way heartbreaking. One of the best fics I've read in a while and such an unusual pairing.
blue & red, a lost fic by

claire/sawyer, claire/desmond, r, 1012
"Once upon a time, her baby blue boy quieted upon hearing Sawyer’s voice. Once upon a time, she might have too."
This is really kind of hard to read, but worth it, in my opinion. It's so very dark, and for me to say that, you know it must be true because I lean towards darker things. But it's also very beautiful. Not for the faint of heart. Highly recommended!
heaven forbid you end up alone, a lost fic by

"She was looking for someone just as screwed up as she is. She knocked on the right door for that too."
Been holding onto this one for a while actually. She's done a very nice job with this, one of my fav pairings. It's a kind of quiet fic and has a nice subtlety to it. Broken people can be so beautiful.
Don't forget to feedback the authors! ;)

I'm pretty decent at mapping out vids in my head but don't really know the programs well enough to attempt to make something that matches what I actually see. I've had ideas for ages that haven't seen the light of day because I know I lack the technical skills necessary to make them work.

Aw, wow. *blush* Well thank you!
You know, and trust me on this, it's really all about practice. And hey, right now I'm so out of practice it's not funny! (I hear it's like riding a bike though...) But once you get used to working with clips, figuring out what works best for you and how to use footage to your advantage, by the time you figure all that out? The technical stuff will get easier just cause you're playing and working and learning and it's just... it's a beautiful thing I say! I wish I could say the technical thing becomes a no brainer cause there's always some kind of obstacle to work around. But once you know, you know. Haha. So I would definitely encourage you to give it a shot!
