[livejournal.com profile] youcallitwinter wrote me fic (again) and I am here to rec it for you.

before you trade in your summer skin
lost, claire/jack
I honestly don't even know how to put my feelings about this into words. This is the first time she's ever written this pairing and LET'S JUST SAY SHE IS A GROSS OVERACHIEVER OKAY? Really? REALLY? Perfection.

+

from what i've tasted of desire (i hold with those who favor fire)
the vampire diaries, caroline/stefan/tyler; nc17
I meant to rec this back when she wrote it a little while ago and then never did, shame on me. This is pretty much perfection and one of the best of this threesome I've ever read. Really. Go enjoy it.

author's summary: I'm taking you somewhere safe.
zombies!, au, apocalypse, scars, journeys
This was written for five acts which feels like it was forever ago, but like I said I'd been really behind on my fic-reading so I just now got to these today and let me say this was well worth the wait! Really fantastic (and an intriguing appearance by Ben as well.) Definitely check it out! link!

VIVIDCON HAS ARRIVED

Which means that it's time for amazing videos to be posted that will blow your mind/make you wanna dance/fill you with glee etc. I am finally over that whole "watching vids will make me unable to vid myself" paranoia that I was stuck in for, oh, about a year, with little exception. So now I am just enjoying the show, so-to-speak. [And getting inspired.]

I have a few recs already!

The Name of the Game; Legend of the Seeker; by [livejournal.com profile] bradcpu
This show was always beautiful but it has never looked as amazing as it does in this vid. The editing, the music, the epicness, the hotness, the sex! It's just gorgeous! You'll love it even if you've never seen the show. [And now I should probably consider watching season two.]

Boom Boom Pow; Fringe; by [livejournal.com profile] hollywoodgrrl
Most awesome recruiter vid ever? Awesome music and editing. Highlights the visual awesomeness of the show and the kickassery of the characters. So fun.

At My House(s); Big Love; by [livejournal.com profile] ohvienna
I never thought a dance video could be done to this song, but the many talents of miss [livejournal.com profile] ohvienna have proven me so very wrong. Holy awesome. Reminds me how much I love this show and is just fun to watch. Check it out.

FIC
a map of the falling sky; lost, claire/jack; by [livejournal.com profile] angela_weber
Just a really sweet and powerful claire/jack fic. The ending is just perfect. Really beautiful scene laying she's done here. Go read. :)

If you take the time to watch or read any of these recommendations, please feedback the artists/authors/creators. [Not just me.]

→ My newest flister, [livejournal.com profile] colourmayfade, made a very pretty lost finale picspam over here. Lots of pretty happening in that general direction.

→ Fic!Rec
Birds Are Singing to Calm Us Down by [livejournal.com profile] missy_useless
lost, claire/jack, pg13
This is so dark and angsty and desperate and subtle and lovely. I can't say enough about it. Highly recommended.

→ There's a fic wish meme going on right now. I want to participate but I just can't decide what to wish for, haha.

→ I want to post some stuff about the other finales that have all happened over the course of the past several weeks. Modern Family, Community, Parenthood, Grey's Anatomy, etc. but it feels like I'm late on all of it so I haven't yet. Maybe sometime this weekend.

→ Speaking of the lost finale, my friend Paul and I were talking about how I was unhappy with the outcome of the sideshow and he told me I had to "think of it as poetry" more than a linear story or a tv show or anything else. I have to say, that helped a bit... but not entirely. Still. It's a good suggestion. I thought I would share it for those still hung up on it as I am.

→ Random: I miss vidding.

→ Fic rec!:
I’ll slay all of our dragons, win all of our wars, lost, claire/jack/sawyer, pg
This short fic is just perfect and sweet. Her version of Claire in particular is wonderful.

→ The Pacific finale last night. Okay, so I liked it. I don't know if I liked it as much as [livejournal.com profile] slybrunette, but I liked it, despite mild spoiler. ) In fact, the whole montage thing at the end made me cry. It's true.

→ I'm playing around with Adobe InDesign right now and can I just say what a pain in the neck it is? After using photoshop for so long, InDesign makes the most simple of tasks seem complicated. I realize it's just another way of doing things, but the learning curve is a bitch.

→ The house guests are gone and I don't know what to do with myself.

krickets: (LIFE. b. you're not the boy)
→ So, Ugly Betty. We have bid adieu. And she will go right up there with Buffy, Veronica, Starbuck, & others as one of the great female characters and role models of my tv-watching career. I wish I could really sum up why this show was so remarkable and important, despite its goofiness, and how there really is nothing else like it on TV right now. Which is kinda sad, really. But I don't know how to do it. I don't even have an icon to prove my adoration. So for now I will just say goodbye. Goodbye Betty! Goodbye Suarez family! Goodbye Marc & Amanda! Goodbye Wilhelmina and your craziness! Goodbye Meads! (Especially Claire!) If I could, I would kiss them all.

→ Life Unexpected also ended. Renewal is still up in the air. Season one. Ah, it was crazy! It was beautiful! I won't give away anything when I say that this show really came out of nowhere and rocketed to the top of my "must-watch" list every week. It was just delightful and I love the characters and their building relationships and the well-done focus on minor characters and the setting and the dialogue and the fun and the melodrama. There is no reason not to be watching this show, flist. I just hope it gets a second season cause I'm dying to see these characters continue to live. They're too adorable not to.

→ Justified. Um, I think I'm two eps behind. Whoops!

→ Parenthood. First episode I was not sold. Liked the second ep a ton better, and now I can officially say that I really like this show. I've got to say that I think the cast is really great, including the younger members. I still don't particularly like Peter Krause's character, but I guess with a character list that long there's bound to be someone. I love the opening credits and just think they're doing a great job all around.

→ I tried the first two eps of Miami Medical and was surprisingly charmed by them. Not planning on attending regular service just yet, it's too soon to tell, but I can think of worse things to watch. [Much worse.]

[livejournal.com profile] gigglemonster made this awesome themed wallpaper and accompanying fanmix for Jack/Sawyer/Claire called We Rob Banks. Awesome. Gorgeous. And sexy. I am hoping to write those three again very very soon and this just made me remember [not that I'd forgotten] why I love them so much. (That and re-watching all of her Jawyercita, Jack/Claire and Jack/Sawyer vids multiple times.) I'm feeling very optimistic.

[livejournal.com profile] slybrunette literally just informed me that I won this month's best het fic [livejournal.com profile] lost_fic_award for And Life is Wine! I am beyond shocked. I never expect to win anything, let alone an LFA! So thank you to anyone who voted for my fic.

→ The list of shows I'm behind on gets longer every day. No wonder. I keep trying new shows and actually really enjoying them. Perhaps this is due to my desperate desire to find some new shows I like that don't get fucking canceled thank-you-very-much!

krickets: (LOST. richard; circa 1932)
So LOST. I did watch this week though I didn't intend to. (There's a story about me waiting for someone in a location where the episode is playing, the person never shows up, and I end up watching the rest of the episode anyway, it's boring, you don't want to hear it.) I'm two episodes behind, so I hardly feel qualified to give any opinions.

In lieu of that, have a fic rec:
Oh Sister, Oh Sister, Let's Walk the Seashore by [livejournal.com profile] slybrunette
lost, jack/claire, pg13, 2500-ish
I don't know what to say about this other than it's amazing. Here's her summary: AU. She says the Carolinas, she says New Jersey – for the ocean. He doesn’t have it in him to say California, and so he just lets it speak for itself in his rearview mirror (this is a story without an ending; or maybe it’s already over).

Now I'm gonna go watch Justified.

My old friend Kat at LVI made this awesome "what if" promo for Claire in season six of LOST. (NO Spoilers for the new season).

I wish the show would give her this kind of storyline upon her return. I doubt they will.

Random things from this week:

The Lost Fic Battle over at [livejournal.com profile] lostsquee is on! I'm super excited and there are already some great fics being written. Like this awesome jack/claire by [livejournal.com profile] colourmayfade. Writing goes until the 29th and I am definitely planning on writing!

Didn't watch more than a passing glance at the Golden Globes. I really like Ricky Gervais though so I was partially tempted even though I find awards shows to be pretty pointless and actually have issues with them as a whole. But I kind of wanted Kathryn Bigelow to win for director. (I didn't even know she was nominated until I looked it up last night. That's how invested I was.) The Hurt Locker was great. But she didn't. I know people are pissed about Avatar. I have little or no interest in seeing it beyond the casual, "ohh, Sam Worthington is pretty" distraction. And I can see why people are upset. (They're upset it won for the same reasons I don't really want to see it. Go with your instincts, KC.)

And how about Matt Barr guesting in Friday Night Lights? I just gotta say it kind of made me miss Sully and his cocky attitude. But it was nice to see him.

About Friday Night Lights, general spoilers for s4 )

And about Dollhouse, um, no. )

→ Also, [livejournal.com profile] alliecat8 wrote this great Lost fic called Dharmasankat that kind of answers the question, what if the "reset" sends them all back to that day in Sydney and they have to make the choice of whether or not to get on that plane. Really interesting concept.
