Okay, now I'm going to finally get ready for work.

krickets: (STOCK. tv is good.)
→ My newest flister, [livejournal.com profile] colourmayfade, made a very pretty lost finale picspam over here. Lots of pretty happening in that general direction.

→ Fic!Rec
Birds Are Singing to Calm Us Down by [livejournal.com profile] missy_useless
lost, claire/jack, pg13
This is so dark and angsty and desperate and subtle and lovely. I can't say enough about it. Highly recommended.

→ There's a fic wish meme going on right now. I want to participate but I just can't decide what to wish for, haha.

→ I want to post some stuff about the other finales that have all happened over the course of the past several weeks. Modern Family, Community, Parenthood, Grey's Anatomy, etc. but it feels like I'm late on all of it so I haven't yet. Maybe sometime this weekend.

→ Speaking of the lost finale, my friend Paul and I were talking about how I was unhappy with the outcome of the sideshow and he told me I had to "think of it as poetry" more than a linear story or a tv show or anything else. I have to say, that helped a bit... but not entirely. Still. It's a good suggestion. I thought I would share it for those still hung up on it as I am.

→ Random: I miss vidding.

krickets: (LIFE. b. you're not the boy)
→ So, Ugly Betty. We have bid adieu. And she will go right up there with Buffy, Veronica, Starbuck, & others as one of the great female characters and role models of my tv-watching career. I wish I could really sum up why this show was so remarkable and important, despite its goofiness, and how there really is nothing else like it on TV right now. Which is kinda sad, really. But I don't know how to do it. I don't even have an icon to prove my adoration. So for now I will just say goodbye. Goodbye Betty! Goodbye Suarez family! Goodbye Marc & Amanda! Goodbye Wilhelmina and your craziness! Goodbye Meads! (Especially Claire!) If I could, I would kiss them all.

→ Life Unexpected also ended. Renewal is still up in the air. Season one. Ah, it was crazy! It was beautiful! I won't give away anything when I say that this show really came out of nowhere and rocketed to the top of my "must-watch" list every week. It was just delightful and I love the characters and their building relationships and the well-done focus on minor characters and the setting and the dialogue and the fun and the melodrama. There is no reason not to be watching this show, flist. I just hope it gets a second season cause I'm dying to see these characters continue to live. They're too adorable not to.

→ Justified. Um, I think I'm two eps behind. Whoops!

→ Parenthood. First episode I was not sold. Liked the second ep a ton better, and now I can officially say that I really like this show. I've got to say that I think the cast is really great, including the younger members. I still don't particularly like Peter Krause's character, but I guess with a character list that long there's bound to be someone. I love the opening credits and just think they're doing a great job all around.

→ I tried the first two eps of Miami Medical and was surprisingly charmed by them. Not planning on attending regular service just yet, it's too soon to tell, but I can think of worse things to watch. [Much worse.]

[livejournal.com profile] gigglemonster made this awesome themed wallpaper and accompanying fanmix for Jack/Sawyer/Claire called We Rob Banks. Awesome. Gorgeous. And sexy. I am hoping to write those three again very very soon and this just made me remember [not that I'd forgotten] why I love them so much. (That and re-watching all of her Jawyercita, Jack/Claire and Jack/Sawyer vids multiple times.) I'm feeling very optimistic.

[livejournal.com profile] slybrunette literally just informed me that I won this month's best het fic [livejournal.com profile] lost_fic_award for And Life is Wine! I am beyond shocked. I never expect to win anything, let alone an LFA! So thank you to anyone who voted for my fic.

→ The list of shows I'm behind on gets longer every day. No wonder. I keep trying new shows and actually really enjoying them. Perhaps this is due to my desperate desire to find some new shows I like that don't get fucking canceled thank-you-very-much!

[livejournal.com profile] pretty_hostel made some cute 'short & sweet' picspams for the first three eps of Harper's Island. Ep 1, Ep 2, and Ep 3. They're very much a "snapshot" of the show and leave out a lot of the meat, but they're pretty and fun. She's also uploaded a "theme song" for each episode too. I particularly like Into the Fire. Check 'em out.

→ Speaking of awesome Harper's stuff, [livejournal.com profile] faerna made an animated mood theme for the show! I think I might just have to snag that one. Give the adorable That 70s Show a rest. I'm not sure why I hadn't seen this one before.

→ I kind of started watching American Dreams? Five eps in. Just something for fun. I'm charmed by it. Has anyone else watched? I think I'll keep it up. I find it enjoyable. I don't really have any spoilery remarks on what's happened so far. I will say that the chaotic family life (with four kids) and everyone talking over each other is kind of fun -- and I like the "journey" the mother is embarking on. I don't think I have seen Brittany Snow in anything before but I've definitely heard of her. I've seen previews and those Tyler Shields pics/vids too. But I swear at some point in the pilot I thought she was an Olsen twin. She kind of looks like them a bit, no? Especially in this. Only in certain shots though.

→ I was recently gifted an HD media player from a friend. I mentioned I was looking at a similar item and they happened to have a new one that they weren't ever planning on using, so I got lucky. It's a fairly small device that's pretty unobtrusive and it plugs into the back of the television. You can plug in your USB flash drive or external hard drive. So, now I'm able to play anything I rip/download on our big screen. It's got its own remote and it's just incredibly handy, plays all sorts of file types. Definitely recommend something similar to anyone who watches tv/movies on their computer. There are lots of different types of these on the market. Mine is by a company named prodigi -- though I'm sure there are others. Anyway, just wanted to share this "new" invention. It's like a whole new world. Not being bound to the computer -- haha.

[livejournal.com profile] princesaskater made a really beautiful (spoilery!) picspam for Harper's Island episode 1.11, Splash. Speaking of Harper's Island, they're skipping July 4th and airing the last two episodes back to back on July 11th on CBS. On wikipedia, it doesn't say when they're airing them on Global TV though so there may be an ep next week and there may not be. I'm thinking of re-watching the series between now and the finale.

→ For two nights in a row this week there was a mockingbird singing outside my window, well past midnight keeping me awake. (SO loud and obnoxious.) Apparently this is the lonely cry of a bachelor mockingbird looking for a mate and there is absolutely no way to discourage them or even scare them away because they are territorial and are likely to sing from the same spot each night. Thankfully, last night there was a big thunderstorm and lots of rain so he was quiet. I'm crossing my fingers he doesn't come back again tonight, but I don't know how truly hopeful I am. Some of the things I read online seem to suggest that they sing by light, so I am half contemplating sabotaging the streetlight that's right outside the house. If I can figure out a way to do that...

→ Everyone seems to be discussing the warnings and triggers wank (meta?) that's been going around. Generally speaking I have not had much need for warnings. They're usually covered in my pairings and ratings. I have written non-con one time (for Sweet Charity) and I warned for it then -- it was my John-in-hell SPN fic -- but I can almost with 100% certainty say I will never write it again, so I don't have to think about warning for those types of things.

The thing I'm pretty firm about though, is death. I have heard some (minimal) discussion about that being one of the warnings people want. But I personally don't warn for it. I may have in the past, but I don't like to and don't plan to in the future. Especially if the death is an important part of the story.

There has been some discussion about how it's "wrong" to compare movies/tv shows and books with fanfiction because we "owe" each other more than that. But imagine seeing Million Dollar Baby, not knowing anything about it, and it came with a "death" warning in front of it? Wouldn't it kind of defeat the whole purpose? I think so. Knowing death is coming would just suck any hope or meaning out of everything preceeding it. Generally, the point isn't death. The point is the life, the struggle, the journey that came before it. But if you tarnish that with a big warning label, it kind of makes it all seem a little pointless right? Maybe that's just me.

Anyway, I don't think I have to worry so much as it seems like people aren't worried so much about death by itself as they are self-harm and suicide. Death by itself seems to be low on the list of trauma-related triggers.

[livejournal.com profile] barefoot_chick showed me this. (500) Days of Summer looks super adorable. I adore both Zooey Deschanel and Joseph Gordon-Levitt. "It's love. It's not Santa Claus." Hee. Looks like you can sign up to grab tickets to a free screening if it'll be near you.

FIC REC! Back Again, a Claire (Lost) fic that [livejournal.com profile] kickaboutheart wrote for me that has a sublimely surprising ending. Really beautiful.

→ Today was my boss's last day. I am going to miss her so much. But I don't really think it will sink in yet until I go to work and she's not there.

→ I'm enrolling in an online program today, so I'm not taking any time off. I'm feeling rather ambitious and excited about the whole thing. Downside is I'll probably be dropping my awesome Greek Mythology class I was going to take over the summer for fun, but you know... you can't win 'em all.

→ Here's my new desktop!

[livejournal.com profile] gigglemonster made it for me and posted it here! It's Richard/Jacob and I love it. *nods* That cap of Jacob is very pretty.

→ Working on your comment fics over here over the weekend starting today. I finished one yesterday (yay! galen/sam!) and actually started on another yesterday. I'm feeling pretty good about the fic bug. We'll see how it goes. ;)

→ First, one of my flisters [livejournal.com profile] airings made a few gorgeous Baltar collages, here. It is what is described as an attempt to decipher the madness of the mind of Gaius Baltar. It's amazing and beautiful. It reminds me of a lot of the work that people do in the Stargate: Atlantis fandom which is always so creative and thorough and professional looking that you just have to sit back and stare in awe.

→ Second, I was bad and I went and watched the streaming episode over at scifi.com and holy frakking shit you guys! This is and remains the best show in the history of bloody history! do not be fooled by imitations!; massive spoilers, incl. screenshots, for 4.10 )

→ Third, a year? A year!??!!

→ Fourth, there is going to be some damn good fic over hiatus and I demand some more m/m slash dammit! (Hopefully we'll be running some fun stuff over at the [livejournal.com profile] bsg_slashathon during the hiatus sometime, so don't fret!)
