krickets: (KILLING. we're back here again.)
[livejournal.com profile] ozmissage gave me this meme after lengthy discussions about "what our shipping and character preference say about us." This one's just about characters, maybe I'll alter it and do a "pairings" one later.

List fifteen (or however many) of your favorite characters from different fandoms and ask people to spot patterns in your choices, if they're so inclined.

Not a comprehensive list, more of a sampling.
Duke Crocker, Haven
Gale Hawthorne, The Hunger Games (books)
Stephen Holder, The Killing
Chon McAlister, Savages & Kings of Cool (books)
Sawyer Ford, Lost (pre-season 5, sorry guys)
Kenzi, Lost Girl (picking only one from this fandom was hard... because Tamsin!)
Pacey Witter, Dawson's Creek
Felix, Orphan Black
Topher Brink, Dollhouse
Hanna Marin, Pretty Little Liars
Fiona Gallagher, Shameless US (also a hard choice! because Karen! And Lip! But mostly Karen.)
Clayton "Jonesy" Jones, Carnivale
Brad Colbert, Generation Kill
Buffy Summers, Buffy the Vampire Slayer
Veronica Mars, Veronica Mars
Kara Thrace, Battlestar Galactica
Katherine Pierce, The Vampire Diaries
Cristina Yang, Grey's Anatomy
Brian Kinney, Queer as Folk US
Malcolm Reynolds, Firefly

For the record, there were certain fandoms *cough*FridayNightLights*cough* that I just couldn't pick one favorite character. It was just too cruel.
krickets: (✈ cjs; dysfunction's the name)
Day 3 - For each of the fandoms from day two, what were your favorite characters to write? {I'm only doing a few of these!)

Dawson's Creek: I couldn't really tell you. I loved Pacey and Joey but I'm not sure I did a very good job writing them.

The Vampire Diaries: Caroline, Stefan, and Tyler. If it isn't already obvious. I find Tyler the most shippable character on that show so he's actually probably topping this list.

Lost: Jack, Claire, Sawyer... with Alex and Richard bringing up the rear.

Dollhouse: Alpha & Echo (I would totally say Mag and Zone if I'd ever written those characters, LOVE THEM.)

Harper's Island: I don't really have a favorite. Maybe Henry and Shane?

Battlestar Galactica: Kara, Leoben, Sam, Chief... and though I have never written her in fic (a tragedy, yes) I write Ellen Tigh in my brain every day.

Day 4 – Do you have a "muse" character, that speaks to you more than others, or that tries to push their way in, even when the fic isn't about them? Who are they, and why did that character became your muse?
Right now it's Tyler Lockwood from The Vampire Diaries, but I tend to find myself injecting Sawyer or Jack into Lost fics when they're not really in the fic. Claire too, but she's usually the subject of the fics she's in. I can't think of anybody else really.

Day 5 – If you have ever had a character try to push their way into a fic, whether your "muse" or not, what did you do about it?
I probably subtly insinuated they were sleeping with/had slept with one or more of the characters that the fic was about. Is that bad?

Day 6 – When you write, do you prefer writing male or female characters?
I have no preference whatsoever. I feel like I write male and female characters equally and I enjoy them equally.

Day 7 – Have you ever had a fic change your opinion of a character?
I think any time I write a character for the first time this tends to happen. I feel like there are characters that I have written who I only found marginally interesting but after writing them I kind of fall in love with them or fall in love with a pairing. I think Alpha/Echo is a good example of that. Because I didn't have the highest opinion of either of them before writing them, but I ended up loving them. after writing them together. There are other instances where I feel like writing a character hasn't necessarily made me change my opinion on a character, but it's made me appreciate them more. Claire Littleton of Lost and Tyler Lockwood of The Vampire Diaries are good examples of that.

Random things from this week:

The Lost Fic Battle over at [livejournal.com profile] lostsquee is on! I'm super excited and there are already some great fics being written. Like this awesome jack/claire by [livejournal.com profile] colourmayfade. Writing goes until the 29th and I am definitely planning on writing!

Didn't watch more than a passing glance at the Golden Globes. I really like Ricky Gervais though so I was partially tempted even though I find awards shows to be pretty pointless and actually have issues with them as a whole. But I kind of wanted Kathryn Bigelow to win for director. (I didn't even know she was nominated until I looked it up last night. That's how invested I was.) The Hurt Locker was great. But she didn't. I know people are pissed about Avatar. I have little or no interest in seeing it beyond the casual, "ohh, Sam Worthington is pretty" distraction. And I can see why people are upset. (They're upset it won for the same reasons I don't really want to see it. Go with your instincts, KC.)

And how about Matt Barr guesting in Friday Night Lights? I just gotta say it kind of made me miss Sully and his cocky attitude. But it was nice to see him.

About Friday Night Lights, general spoilers for s4 )

And about Dollhouse, um, no. )

001. So I don't understand Tumblr. I admit it. I have no idea what the point is or what it's for. Is it just like a blog? Even if someone were to explain it to me, I can't promise I wouldn't continue to be confused.

002. I still haven't found any books in present tense. You Shall Know Our Velocity turned out to be just plain old past tense. Though, I'm still thinking of reading it. I also got this book Rendezvous in Black which looks like it might be a fun read.

003. I was working on this Dollhouse video about two months ago and just gave up. I don't know if I'll ever finish it or any other vid, ever again. It's sad. But possibly true.

004. Regarding Dollhouse. I'm slightly disappointed in the season thus far. I keep waiting for this to turn into a full-on ensemble and it's still just the Echo show. And call me crazy, but the Echo show mostly bores me. (As does the Paul show.) I almost think I wish TSCC would have been renewed instead. It always seemed like a toss-up, but not right now.

005. I really really like Eastwick. Well, maybe I just like Stars Hollow. Haha. Either way, I'm having fun watching this show.

006. I may have signed up for [livejournal.com profile] apocabigbang which is just the most hilarious thing ever. I haven't picked a fandom yet, and it's possible I'll chicken out at the last second. But yeah, it's a thought.

007. Stargate Universe. I don't hate it. I am curious to see more. I enjoyed the first three episodes. I like a lot of the characters. I'm just confused and intrigued enough to make this a regular thing.

008. I don't know if I've even talked about it on my LJ before but I was watching The Big Bang Theory at the end of last season. I think I've officially decided that I am going to give it up this season though. I'm just not laughing. Never was much of a sitcom person. Though Community and Modern Family are definitely making me laugh a lot this season.

009. I watch too much TV.

010. I know I promised/discussed a "life" post, but this is just as good right?

Am I the only one who can see the male "actives" in Dollhouse? Alpha? Dead naked shower guy, what's-his-face-who's-name-I-can't-remember-if-that's-even-his-real-name, random dudes walking around and crawling into their hole in the floor just like the females?

Is it like selective gender blindness?

So, call me crazy, but as awesome as this line-up is, I was kind of burnt out by the end of it. I'm not used to watching three full hours of TV in a row. (What? I'm a grazer!)

I have been watching Friday Night Lights + BSG on Fridays up until now. I was waiting for it -- FNL -- to premiere on NBC to finish watching it instead of downloading it when it was on HDTV? HDNET? DirecTV? Idk!, but now with this line-up I think I'm going to end up doing that anyway. Course I could always watch it on NBC.com and be all legitimate about it -- whichever.

In other words, I was already maxed out at 2 hours in a row. Now with three? Man!

→ TSCC, 4.14, The Good Wound: underwhelmed a bit? )

→ Dollhouse, 1.01, Ghost: brief (entirely unspoiled) speculation )

→ BSG, 4.15, No Exit: bald is the new black, baby )

I ALMOST FORGOT )

The above might be slightly rambly/incoherent and I may have forgotten some a lot of things. No promo spoilers in the comments please. I've seen them but others may not have.

Have we all seen this? grindhouse-style dollhouse/terminator trailer? )
I'm pretty excited. I've pretty much let myself be quietly optimistic about Dollhouse, but my excitement is growing since Fox seems to be giving it plenty of ad-time from what I've seen. (Opposed to NBC's treatment of FNL.) Plus! T:SCC is coming back! Yay! Fridays are going to be crazy!awesome, ya'll. (Not that they aren't already. BSG, what?)

Matt & Evi are stinkin' cute. Nobody's got a right to look that adorable.

→ Speaking of LOST, I didn't watch this past week's show and I missed the last 15 minutes of the episode before that too, and I'm not really all that sad about it. There is, of course, the motivation to watch for fic purposes, but at the moment it's slight. We'll see.

→ Still reeling from this week's BSG, guys. Seriously? Damn.

→ I always start these posts with way more to say than I can remember by the end of them - I'll blame the sunshine. It's too nice of a day to remember stuff. You know?
