What if this is all we get?

When I had my blog I started this lame "Take Out Film Rec" column where I'd rec movies you could either rent or stream online at netflix/amazon/youtube and order take out and watch in your living room. I think I recced all of 2 movies before I ran out of stamina. (Rubber and Attack the Block, in case you're wondering.) Anyway, I'm not saying I'm going to start doing this here, but I do have a recommendation for you guys:

Stuck Between Stations

I just told [livejournal.com profile] stainofmylove that this movie reminded me a lot of Before Sunrise (as blasphemous as that might sound for fans of that movie) and that it was pretty much fantastic. It really is. And I feel like I should say more about it but I think the trailer kind of says it all. Also, Sam Rosen is completely adorable and this is the first film where I truly loved Zoe Lister Jones, and weirdly I've seen a lot of stuff with her in it. Generally, Netflix has been putting a lot more understated character-driven indies on their streaming site lately and I've been kind of loving it. (I really enjoyed The Yellow Handkerchief as well.)

This is in my queue, and I love Before Sunrise, so I will have to watch this soon! Thanks for the rec!

[identity profile] crickets.livejournal.com 2012-11-03 03:22 am (UTC)(link)
Definitely watch it soon! You're welcome. I think you'll really like it!
theladyscribe: Etta Place and Butch Cassidy laughing. (kiss at the end of the rainbow)

You are making me think I need to get back on the Netflix bandwagon. Because this looks like it is just my speed.

[identity profile] crickets.livejournal.com 2012-11-03 03:23 am (UTC)(link)
It was so much more than I expected, that's for sure. Worth it.

Oh, this looks lovely. <3 And it has Josh Hartnett in it. My seventeen-year-old self was obsessed with him for some reason. Seriously, my room was practically wallpapered with his face at one point.

I recently got burned by Netflix Instant when I got all psyched for this movie called "3" which was supposedly about a married couple collectively falling in love with this younger guy. I was gearing up for some grown up Savages-style OT3 action, and it was totally not that at all.

[identity profile] crickets.livejournal.com 2012-11-03 03:25 am (UTC)(link)
Lovely is the perfect way to describe it. There's definitely some heavy stuff in it, but it's a really beautiful little film. And sorry to break it to your inner 17-year-old, but Josh Hartnett is in like 3 minutes of this movie, haha. But he plays a strange and interesting character lol. So that's a consolation I hope?

Thank you for warning me about 3. I hadn't seen it there but now I will know what NOT to expect if I see it. Haha.

I don't think you'll be disappointed by this if you watch it though. So yay!

Drei (3). I liked it. But yeah, it's definitely not what it says on the label.

[identity profile] gigglemonster.livejournal.com 2012-11-03 03:18 am (UTC)(link)
Wow! This does look really good!

[identity profile] crickets.livejournal.com 2012-11-03 03:25 am (UTC)(link)
IT WAS. WATCH IT!

[identity profile] hypertwink.livejournal.com 2012-11-03 07:57 am (UTC)(link)
Another movie it reminds me of: Weekend. It's about two gay men who meet at a party and spend the weekend together before one goes to the States for school.

[livejournal.com profile] gigglemonster has told me about that movie but I haven't had a chance to watch it. I'll check it out sometime.

I was also gonna say it reminds me a bit of Cairo Time as well. GUH. Alexandar Siddig in that movie. *love*

WHY DID I WATCH THE TRAILER???

WHYYYYY DID I WATCH THE TRAILER WHEN I ~KNEW IT WOULD BE FABULOUS [because, hey, the Savages thing...!]

WHYYYYYYYYY DID I WATCH THE TRAILER WHEN I ~KNOWWW STUPID AUSTRALIANS CAN'T ACCESS STUPID NETFLIX.

I AM going to find this movie and watch. the. shit. out. of. it.

Somehow.

Also, [livejournal.com profile] yuletide. I'm going to need your help.

I think you know why.

[identity profile] crickets.livejournal.com 2012-11-03 01:17 pm (UTC)(link)
My help? Haha. I missed sign-ups again. I was going to do Festivids, miss sign-ups by a couple of days. And you just reminded me I wanted to do Yuletide and I missed that sign-up by a couple of days too. That's my luck. But if you need my help just let me know! I AM SUPER EXCITED TO CONFIRM THE WHY.

Also, you need to get your hands on this movie. It is beyond excellent.

[identity profile] waltzmatildah.livejournal.com 2012-11-03 01:20 pm (UTC)(link)
I AM SUPER EXCITED TO CONFIRM THE WHY. ARGH! YOU KNOWWWW WHY!!! WHAT HAVE I DONE! I'm having a hard time sourcing the books, too, which is very *sadface* because I really do want to experiment with styles etc. Anyhoo, if you have time to beta whatever I manage to come up with, that would be ACES!

Also, you need to get your hands on this movie. This is at the very top o' my 'Things to Achieve In Life' list. True story. I'm not sure what that says about my priorities. I'm also not sure that I care... :)

[identity profile] crickets.livejournal.com 2012-11-03 02:44 pm (UTC)(link)
I WILL TOTALLY BE BETA READING WHATEVER YOU WRITE.

:)

[identity profile] waltzmatildah.livejournal.com 2012-11-03 11:08 am (UTC)(link)
In better news, The Yellow Handkerchief appears to be on youtube.

Score!

[identity profile] crickets.livejournal.com 2012-11-03 01:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Well that's something at least!

[identity profile] mollivanders.livejournal.com 2012-11-03 02:50 pm (UTC)(link)
That movie looks amazing. I'm also a little obsessed with the song at the end. The comment about "what's so great about being okay?" really resonates with me because I've found that when things are just this side of going to shit, that's when I feel ~okay. It's the marginal good, just before things really do fall apart. I'll add it to my list :)

[identity profile] crickets.livejournal.com 2012-11-03 04:17 pm (UTC)(link)
I agree so much. I love movies that are just like one long conversation. There's something so organic about them. And real. Definitely let me know what you think when you watch this.

It's so good!
