Here Today, The West Wing Season 7, Episode 5

I don't know if anyone on my flist has any interest in The West Wing discussion, but as I'm finally wrapping up watching this show after a few years hiatus, I have some things to say. (They may be brief, but they are things.)

Pardon me, but WHAT THE FUCK? That's how they deal with Toby's confession and dismissal? Dismissal was the right word. He was simply dismissed and then the next episode picks up and there's barely a word about it by anybody except Will? And it's mostly related to him taking over the job, and not Toby as a character.(Disclaimer: I am only 3/4th of the way through the following episode.) And no reaction from Josh on the campaign trail? They just skipped that? After everything? How? Why? So many questions. If there's not some kind of (well done) redemption arc (don't tell me) I will be completely pissed off for the remainder of the series. Also, apologies need to be made. Toby! Sobbing. Uncontrollable sobbing.

Don't worry! They don't totally forget about Toby during the last season he'll be back I promise.

The "totally" in "they don't totally forget" is what has me worried here. *sniffle* Oh, Toby.

Sniffles with you. I heart Toby, always will (though I always said I want to be Sam when I grow up, lol).

*hugs*

Now that you mention Sam, I have to say I think these last two seasons with the split between The West Wing and the campaign trail would have been better if he would come back. At least on a semi-regular basis or even just a few guest spots. Everything has felt so fractured. I never got the whole "eff you, Rob Lowe, for leaving this show!" thing until just now. I especially think this storyline would be better if Sam was there.

I know, Toby! It was so perplexing. I never figured it out. People on LJ told me he did it. I didn't buy it, but then I think Richard Schiff thinks he did but I have no clue why. But maybe what I remember was Schiff saying they were all arguing about money and how much they should get paid an ep and well, I think money per ep trumped character's integrity at this point. Which is sad. I can't believe anyone believed they weren't truly valued . . .

So that's all I've got, KC. It remains a mystery in my brain.

I could have bought the Toby storyline, especially because it was done narratively to save lives, but the way they handled everyone just abandoning him, CJ, Josh, Bartlet... that's the part that was SO infuriating to me. Even when CJ finally went to him about a pardon I was not happy with they way they played that. I feel like Toby is the character that was most dear to my heart throughout this series, so to have his relationships dealt with so flippantly in the final season was a true disappointment.
