This past weekend I decided on a whim to start watching Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles. I basically marathoned the entire thing and ended up digging it a lot more than I thought I would. And because, in my opinion, the essence of any show lies within the characters, I'm going to talk about them instead of the storyline. (I'd probably make mincemeat out of it anyway.)

Cameron. Summer is perfectly cast in this role. I do wish they'd play a little more on the "human" side they showed with the dancing in season one and various other moments. I find myself asking questions like "Did Cameron try to (clumsily) console that girl in the bathroom because she genuinely felt for her, or because she thinks that's what humans are supposed to do?" Speaking of Cameron, I loved, loved, loved 2.04, Allison from Palmdale. Jesus that girl can really bring it. How heartbreaking and beautiful.

John. This is such a petty thing, but how glad am I that he cut his hair in season 2? So glad! It looks so much better, yay! I like John in the show. I feel like they're doing a good job at shaping him into the important future person he's supposed to become. And the revelation that he is the one that killed the guy in the opener of season two was so shocking and yet so completely perfect. Of course. Of course that's what happened. It all makes sense.

Sarah. I had a hard time warming to her. I'm not sure why, but I think it's because she's not supposed to come across as all that warm. (Hah.) But I've really grown to like her. I don't have much to say about her character because even though she carries the name of the show, she is probably the least interesting (to me) of the four leads. The actress does a great job with the character and I've never doubted for a single second that Sarah Connor means serious business. And I really enjoyed the interaction with the little boy in 2.05, a lot.

Derek. Wow, Brian Austin Green, to think I had written you off! Welcome back into my life! Those two years I watched 90210 were the best two years of my life. (Okay, not so much, but you know, let's pretend.) I really like his character. (And I like it when he gets it on with Kendra Shaw from BSG, despite her being evil, it's damn HOT.) I also kind of ship him with Cameron. I mean, her dancing almost made him cry, okay? I think it's the fact that he's the one who trusts her the least, that least believes that there is something more than metal underneath that skin, that makes the pairing intriguing for me. It certainly gives it an interesting dynamic. (And probably makes them doomed too, why do I always do this to myself?!?!?) Back to Derek, I like the fatherly role he's taking with John. Very much so. The scene when Derek took John to the park, and John realized he was watching his young father play catch with young Derek? Is one of my favorite moments of the show. That was truly great.

Others. Charley is fantastic and I really hope he comes back, but I wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't. And the actress who plays Riley reminds me of a less delicate version of Emilie De Ravin. I used to love Garbage back in the 90s, but I'm having issues with Shirley Manson in her role. She creeps me out and not the awesome way a villian should. And god I hope she doesn't get Agent Ellison killed. I'm really digging him. He's all alone in this and that is very, very compelling.

Of course, I forgot to set the DVR tonight so I missed the most recent ep. Dangit!

I actually...scrolled past the actual entry LOL
I kinda really wanna watch the show now so I might read this after I do.
But then again I want to watch it but who knows if I ever will ya know?
I might as well just read it. On the other hand, I wouldn't really know what you're talking about cuz I don't know any of the characters anyway.
Feel free to tell me to shut up at any point.

Yeeeeee-haw! ;)

What? You know I've loved this show since it first came on! Heck, I've vidded this show twice already AND I've made icons, which is like, a lifetime declaration of love from me taken all together, right? ;) And you know I love Derek (and the rest of the gang)! And if you didn't know all that stuff, well, now you do! ;)

I kinda ship Derek/Cameron for pretty much the reasons you mentioned. They have a snarky mistrust thing going on that appeals to me (and makes it fairly doomed, of course, but then they've flat-out said that Derek/Sarah just ain't gonna happen -- which doesn't stop me from shipping them anyway, of course ;) ).

So, to sum up: YAY! TSCC GOOD! ♥!

Yayyayyay!

I'm tired, but all I can say is Derek/Cameron! Yay! They have so many issues and so much history and I want so much for them to have history or future or something.

Oh coool! A new Sarah Connor Chronicles convert! \o/ I love that show and agree with you on most of the characters. I warmed to Sarah a bit sooner (though she's a total hardass, yeah), and it took me ages to like Derek (actually it took the presence of a certain Kendra! ;)) but now I pretty much love the whole cast.

I used to love Garbage back in the 90s, but I'm having issues with Shirley Manson in her role.
Gah, me too. Her character made NO SENSE to me for most of the season. I am glad it's clear now that she's adopted an existing human identity, but I keep wondering how she gets away with everything she does and it is distracting!

Ah, that is still my fave scene of the show! perfect! :)) never thought I could like a character payed by Austin Green so much. I so ship him with Sarah... but looks like nothing is happening between them.

And I have issues myself with the grbage-terminator... there is something wrong with that character and that story line... it kind of bores me to death... even if I must say it got a little better with past ep (still haven't watched the new one myself)

I knew you'd vidded it once and I think I watched that vid (the blur vid, y'know, woo hooo!) And yes, you making icons says dedication! For sure.

I had an idea that you might love Derek. Hehe. ;)

Really, I'm surprised about that. (That they said Derek/Sarah is not going to happen at all.) I would have thought they may want to go in that direction. Maybe Derek/Cameron isn't so doomed after all?

Hehe me too! (I'm not surprised you agree. Have you written fic for them? *makes grabbyhands*)

Yay! I'm so glad I decided to watch it. I really enjoyed it so much more than I thought I would.

I completely agree! I still don't quite get where she came from and the whys and the whosawhatsits and all that. And she kinda bores me. And her ability to get away with everything without drawing any attention to herself is so distracting. Getting Agent Ellison off in the last ep? What happened to the (presumably) dead cop? Etc. etc.

Why thank you for the warm welcome! :)

I really, really loved that scene. I wanna go re-watch it now. Actually I kind of want to re-watch the whole series again. I watched it over the course of 2-3 days. I feel like I watched it too quickly for it to really sink in.

Yeah! I was just saying above that it's kind of boring. Let's be mysterious and accenty and boring. I do love Agent Ellison though. And I see his dilemma, and how he could fall into her trap without thinking twice about who she really is and what she really wants from him. Because she's the only person who believes him that he can work with. And he can't go to the Connor's for fear of risking their lives. *sigh* Poor guy. I fear he's doomed!

She kind of bores me too. *nods* Boredom combined with implausability is not good. I like the stuff with her 'daughter', that was really chilling, but overall I'm not really digging her plot arc.
