let's talk about hotdog

Let me pose a question to the BSG inclined on my flist. (And there are a lot of you.)


Okay. So! Hotdog.

I recall Gaeta (or someone in CIC after the takeover) mentioning that Hot Dog (and someone else who I can't remember) were flying CAP and we heard the orders regarding Roslin & Baltar's raptor.

Now, is Hotdog in on the mutiny?

Cause man, they've just turned all of their supporting characters (practically) into mutineers if he is too.

I'd like to believe that because Gaeta is the only link to communication at this point, that maybe the pilots flying CAP are unaware of what's happening on the ship and are just being fed whatever information Gaeta's allowed them to get?

Otherwise, why would they have to ask who was on CAP? They'd know, cause it'd be one of "them," right?

*shrugs*

I haven't re-watched the episode so I can't remember exactly how that scene played out and if we actually heard them giving orders to the pilots or just heard Gaeta giving the info to someone in CIC to relay those orders. Because why would they destroy one of their own raptors with no reason? (They wouldn't, would they? Aha! I've discovered a flaw in the master plan!)

I mean, they already got Racetrack! They can't have Hotdog too! Darnit!

Why would he bother apologizing to Galen last week about Cally if he's a cylon-hating mutineer? Amiright?

I didn't know if HotDog was, but if Gaeta was asking him to shoot the Raptor down I assume so. But maybe you're right and he doesn't know, in which case he'd expect to get the order from Adama or Tigh maybe, so...

And they would shoot it, if they were good soldiers... if the order seemed legitimate.

Maybe some folks will turn out to be on the inside, y/y? Like Gaeta just yapped his plan at, oh, everybody in the pilot lounge. Not ALL of them might have wanted to go against Adama, y/n?

Aw man I SO want to believe that Hot Dog wouldn't be involved in this whole ordeal. Like you said he was apologizing to Galen and he was actually having a semi-conversation with Kara at the beginning of the ep (and like no one talks to her anymore it seems like lol). So maybe he's still like loyal (i totally typed "lolyay" lol this is not a LOL or a YAY situation! geesh)

And yeah, she was teasing him and he got pissed and said mean things but before that he was just like "shut up." But more in a playful way until it got out of hand, lol. I thought that conversation was going to go to a decent place at the beginning. Like maybe they'd have a heart-to-heart about parenthood. Kara'd be all "You know, I had an imaginary daughter once..." And it would have been beautiful!

I'm fairly sure he's not involved. Mostly because when Gaeta asked who was on CAP, he chose Narcho to tell to shoot down the Raptor, nit his other choice, Hot Dog. If they were both in on it, it wouldn't matter. Also, dud was like, gathering toys and stuff to go see Nicky right before shit started going down, so I don't think the Dawg is a part of it.

I don't think Hotdog is part of the mutiny. He's all about the kid right now and Chiefy is teaching him how to be a daddy. Yes, when Gaeta needed someone to shoot the raptor he chose Narcho.

Even though Hotdog may not be involved, a lot of critical pilots are. They get executed or jailed, who can be pilots for the fleet that anyone can trust? Seriously, Narcho is the CAG. Hotdog maybe be a safe bet, but I really don't know about anyone else.

I am so excited that Gaeta has a story line and more than 2 sentences in an episode. And I need to rewatch the episodes. There is so much stuff, it gets SO confusing. I'm like 'Wait, what?' Over half the time in the episode. It's too smart for me.

I think (read: hope) that Hot Dog just happened to be on CAP at that point. Remember the mutiny happened pretty quickly and since we see him go off pretty early on, I think he was NOT in on it. Gaeta also decided pretty quick between Narcho (who CLEARLY was in on it) and Hot Dog. If the next episode starts where this ends, Narcho would be speeding after the Raptor with Baltar & Roslin. My guess is that Hot Dog goes "WTF are you doing?" and eventually kills Narcho (who obvs will fail at shooting down the raptor since we know ROSLIN IS COMING FOR ALL OF THEEEEMMMMMMMMMM).

Yeah I think your theory is so plausible. How much do I want Hot Dog to save the day (well... a few minutes of the day... it's a pretty big day) by shooting Narcho down and saving Laura and Baltar? SO MUCH!

Um. Supposedly Hotdog would follow orders, even if it meant destroying a raptor. He might check a couple of times that those really were his orders, but technically he should just do it, without asking questions.

I don't think he's in on it. I'm not sure why. Partly because like you say, he apologised to Tyrol.

But then again, I think the cylons on the fleet are no longer a black and white issue, for most people. Even, perhaps, the mutineers. They're angry and frustrated and lost, but it's still a big deal to suddenly hate a whole bunch of people you've been working side by side with for years.

Please take all this with a pinch of salt. I have the beginnings of a migraine. I may have no idea what I'm talking about.

If he knew who was on the raptor he might have second thoughts about doing it, I would hope. But if they fed him some story then I agree, he'd follow orders after some clarification.

Anyway, no this all makes very much sense to me. Especially regarding Athena. I mean Chief and Tigh and Sam too, but mostly her. I'm so mad about that whole thing, lol.

It was funny, I'd just been saying to my sister that this was a pretty much feel-good episode for me while other people found it depressing because I'm just not that fond of any of the minor characters who have just shown their true colors and I was like "If HOTDOG was also in on it, THEN I'd be really fucking sad." And then when I rewatched the ep I caught those lines about him being on CAP and was worried about what that could mean.

But I'm glad to see the reasons brought up in the comments here that he probably isn't, and now I'm beginning to think that his brief appearance in the scene with Starbuck was a little pointless unless it's setting things up for him to kick some mutineer ass in the next episode.
