So I got this new computer a couple of weeks ago and I'm pretty excited because I'll finally get to burn things like vids (and maybe even some other stuff!) to DVD. Only, when I try to use Windows DVD Maker it doesn't accept AVI at all, telling me the file is invalid. Which... is a problem because lots and lots of vids that I download are in that format, and pretty much everything else I download too.

So what do you guys use to burn AVI? I'm pretty bummed about the whole thing to be quite honest. I tried another program called Aimersoft DVD Creator and while it worked like a charm for [livejournal.com profile] gigglemonster, for some reason it doesn't want to engage my DVD drive at all. After encoding everything it spits the (perfectly good, I tested it) blank DVD out and tells me it didn't burn. No duh, thank you very much.

(I don't know if it's me that's doing something wrong there or not, it might be worth looking into.)

Anyway.

Advice? Thoughts?

TMPGEnc DVD Author 3 with DivX Authoring is what I'm playing with right now. I'm using the files from LlamaEnc.

I really like Ulead DVD Movie Factory. They used to have free trials on their website -- it's been awhile since I got it. But I usually convert AVI to MPEG before burning to a DVD because it takes less time to burn that way.

With what do you convert them?

WinAVI Video Converter. It takes about 20 min to convert AVI to MPEG, where if I try to make a DVD straight from an AVI it takes forever. (But my computer is old-ish too.)

I use DVD Flick. It works really well and I've never had to convert any of my avi files. Plus it's free.

I have actually seen this suggested before. Maybe I'll give it a shot. I think I have some research to do. (Why is this not more simple? LOL)
