Snagged from [livejournal.com profile] gigglemonster:
1. Grab the nearest book.
2. Open the book to page 123.
3. Find the fifth sentence.
4. Post the text of the next 4-7 sentences on your LJ along with these instructions.
5. Don't you dare dig for that "cool" or "intellectual" book in your closet! I know you were thinking about it! Just pick up whatever is closest (unless it's too troublesome to reach and is really heavy. Then go back to step 1).

Yitzi stepped forward. "Motty, it's a big question if we can still be your friends."

A discussion ensued.

Yitzi explained that he was basing his reasoning on the prohibition from Deuteronomy, "Do not intermarry with them, for they will turn you onto their gods." "If marrying was not allowed," Yitzi put forth, "can we not also assume ipso facto that friendship, too, is prohibited?"

Yoel disagreed. He pointed out that the greater commandment to love your neighbor as you love yourself specifically avoids saying whether the neighbor is Jewish or non-Jewish. Why? "To show us that when it comes to human acts of kindness - such as friendship - religious orientation is of no consequence."

- The Metamorphosis, from Beware of God by Shalom Auslander
[And that was 9 sentences.]

:) You are a lovely sweetheart, and I am online talking to you in the other window right now (terrifying dentists ahoy!) Your writing is always beautiful and elegant and flawless, and it's thanks to you that my eyes were opened to the wonders of Claire/Jack. I think the project you're working on at the moment is absolutely gorgeous from the preview you sent of it to me.

You're really hard-working and clever, and I have to thank you a thousand times for helping me so much with the Five Acts meme - I never could've got through all of it without you! The fic you wrote for me there about Alpha/Echo was amazing too, and absolutely fuelled my love for the pairing.

I basically think you're absolutely awesome and super-smart (as the closest book to you confirms!)

Explanation: Compliment Spree!

Stealing this! I also noticed you have a "Dead Like Me" mood theme. :D I LOVE THAT SHOW.

one day I should make this meme. but the fact is: i can't. i have around 30 books surrounded me right now (still haven't tidied-up from my working madness of the past months) so I would have to make a pick. :(

i do love your quote, though.

D'awww. This was so sweet. I was reading this comment going. "What? Where did this come from?" Hahaha. Such a lovely sentimental thing to do, thank you!

Writing that for you made me love that pairing too! And I had never really considered it before.

Haha yeah, it was a good show. I think it was my first ever mood theme. I decided to go back to it for a while but I would love to find an animated Modern Family mood theme.

Truth is I have this wall shelf above me where the books are stacked. It's like one of those invisible shelves so it's not easy to go through and pick out the bottom book because that's what's supporting all of the other books. However it is technically the "closest" one to me. But I decided the next best thing to do would be to pick the book on the top, because technically it's the most "handy" I'd have to dig for that bottom book!
