Could someone please explain, without using illustrative icons, the icons people are using with red scribbles around the mouth, black scribbles around the eyes, and the words "ha ha ha" scribbled somewhere on the icon. I'm not getting it and they are seriously fugly. (Thank you [livejournal.com profile] elise_509!)

→ I, ahem, obtained She & Him's Volume One yesterday. First listen? It's super cute. Zooey's voice is adorable and like [livejournal.com profile] dayln03 said, some of the tracks remind me of Pushing Daisies. God, I love that show. I want it on DVD now but it doesn't come out until September? Boo. /off topic

Speaking of Zooey's voice. Does anybody remember the Sundance awards one year she and Jake Gyllenhaal sung a really tasteless but also awesome opening song? Babies in trashcans or something? I would love to see that again, even if it meant that it would prove to be less awesome than I remember.

→ Also obtained Coldplay's Viva la Vida. I'm really really liking a lot of these tracks. Then again I always like their stuff. But I find this especially catchy and happy inducing. Maybe it really will bring about world peace? Yeah, that's what happens when you read Spin magazine at work.

Passchendaele. I want to see it. Paul Gross looking better than ever? Caroline Dhavernas looking like she's doing a wonderful job in a role that looks light years away from Jaye? What is not to like?

i believe those icons are supposed to be like the joker posters for The Dark Knight. Why people are turning characters into the joker, who knows...

Ah, thank you. I haven't seen those posters and maybe that's why I don't get it? But knowing what it is, I'm still not sure I really get it. One of those... unexplainable LJ trends? Ha.(Ha. Ha.)

It is well known that Paul has a picture aging in an attic somewhere. Otherwise it's plain unfair. You saw him on The Hour, right? He looks fantastic.

I'm so going to TIFF. If I can score tix to the premiere I will be the happiest fangirl ever.

Oh my god you must!!!! That would be killer!

Seriously? I saw him on The Hour and my jaw was on the floor. What the fuck is that man taking!? He looks so amazing.

OMG! A movie about Passchendaele?!?! :O I have SO got to see that!

Wow! Paul Gross hasn't aged a bit. Finally Canada gets its own epic (and apparently sappy) WWI movie.

I have a cousin who works for the Toronto festivals seasonally. Last year he got me two free tickets to each of Callum's films. Not sure if his powers extend to getting me tickets to the opening premiere, but here's hoping! The Elgin has 1500 seats, after all. :D

Wellllll.... now.... I need a resurrection kit after watching that trailer. Damn... looks like he can't age! I'm so so so so so happy to see him again... <3 <3 And the movie looks gorgeous...... <3 GRAZIE!

Now... shit... I'm still waiting to get my copy of the Coldplay album from Amzon... it's taking forever to get here! Now I'm going to check out those tickets to get to their show this fall... <3 I've been a fan since their start... and I'm so glad to know that the new album sounds great! <3

hmmmm. I heart Paul Gross. How come the guy doesn't age?

I hope the movies is better than the preview. That sounds cliché and cheesy.

Ohh my goodness that movie trailer gives me the good chills! I can't wait to see it! Oh Paul Gross :)

And yay for good music!

I have one of those icons, but I haven't used it in a while. Mine didn't have words at all, and it was the picture from the trailer. So...

I'm glad you got that Coldplay album! I've been waiting for somebody to get it so they would say if it was actually good or not.

Yeah [livejournal.com profile] purestvixen was telling me how it's the biggest Canadian film production... ever? Hahaha. Yeah it looks a bit sappy but it looks good too.

Someone else mentioned, there was a really fantastic interview with him some months ago on a show called The Hour. And he just looks fabulous!

I've only really been able to listen to it maybe once but it's quite good! You won't be disappointed!

It's very strange but I am not complaining!

Aw, I think it looks good. *embraces the war/love story*

Well if it was the actual picture of the trailer than it's not the same thing. These just have random people with these scribbles over their faces. Hahaha.

I would say definitely good, upon first listen? Absolutely recommended. Hehe.

my husband looked over my shoulder (heck, he was it was a war movie trailer, not surprising) and he geeked out at the title. (he used to be in the Canadian Army and loves all of those things)

I must stay I sort of stuck at how strange it was to hear Caroline speaking in English. I haven't seen her stuff...

movie looks interesting though. pretty sure I'll be dragged to it ;) (judging by the "when is it due? when?")

I believe the Joker thing originated from [livejournal.com profile] ohnotheydidnt. Not entirely sure why, except for the opening of Dark Night.

She & Him songs are lovely. They always make me feel happy. (btw, there's a bit of the song you were talking about).
some of the tracks remind me of Pushing Daisies. Ha! I said a while ago that Zooey would have been a much better Chuck than Anna Friel.

I'm considering getting Viva La Vida at work (with my discount) but I'm so un-used to... like, paying for music.

Ooo, that movie looks good! A bit like Atonement, only better. Probably wouldn't get released here in the states though, huh? Sadness. But War! And Canadians! And Caroline! Win!

Wow that film looks fantastic! What's better than a Canadian film (starring our fave Canadian actors)? A Canadian film (starring our fave Canadian actors) set in war time!!! Woohoo! Nothing better. :)

[There's another great little film with Anna Friel about British war brides shipped to Canada during WWII called The War Bride but in America it's called Love and War). Very fun stuff.]

Although I'm a bit confounded by them claiming that the Germans called them "stormtroopers" when in fact that was a key term applied to the German forces in WWI as well as WWII. So whatevs, Canada. *raises eyebrow*

Anyway can't wait for this thing.

Without illustrative icons! Helloooooo.

lol.

Looks like it's going to be good though. The movie, I mean, not the onslaught of ugly icons.

Maybe it will! You never know! *crosses fingers*

Oh thank you for hunting down that clip, I'll have to watch it when I get home. If only it had the whole thing on it! I noticed it's cut very short!

Ah, everything evil starts at ONTD. I should have guessed!

I dunno I really, really, like Anna's portrayal of Chuck but I think Zooey would do a phenominal job with her too. Zooey has long been one of my favorites. She's stinkin' cute! And I'm really liking this album! It's definitely happy!

Why do they re-name them like that? Like we couldn't understand The War Bride? Love and War is so generic. Blah. /endrant.

I really can't wait to see that. Is that true? Hmmm... so much for historical accuracy! Maybe the Canadians were called that second? LOL.

Yeah I can't wait either. Should be interesting! Yay for Paul Gross and his awesomely motivated ass.

From: [identity profile] oregonblondie.livejournal.com
We can only hope!

Yep, it's cut short, but maybe if you hunt around some more the longer version may be up somewehre. I dunno, sorry.

See, I had this all worked out in my head. Zooey should have gone to be Chuck and then Caroline Dhavernas should have been in Tin Man (can you imagine? Zooey's delightful whimsy with her dash of morbidity in PD and CD's sharp wit in Tin Man). And Anna Friel could go back to being British. See, it all works out perfectly.

Dunno why they rename! I like The War Bride so much better. Makes so much more sense. But whatevs. American be too dumb? They want Americans to confuse film with IN Love and War cuz Sandra Bullock is in it. Or something. Maybe not. :P

Yeah I think he glorified the Canucks a wee bit. ;) But it's all right, it's his film.

Wow, do I sense some hostility there towards miss Friel? Hahaha.

Oh no, don't say sorry. I've searched and searched for that thing in the past and hadn't been able to find even a mention of it let alone a clip. This is very good!

Yeah clearly we don't have the intelligence to understand these complicated titles. lol.

They want Americans to confuse film with IN Love and War cuz Sandra Bullock is in it. Or something. Maybe not. :P → OMG I totally don't even really remember what happened in that movie other than she was in it... must have been very memorable.

And really how often do the Canucks get glorified? It's their time. LOL.

Maybe possibly. I mainly just dislike Chuck (Olive >>>> Chuck) but also Friel's portrayal of her feels off to me. And the accent thing bugs.

Date: 2008-06-24 10:19 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] crickets.livejournal.com
Awww. I love BOTH Olive and Chuck. Can't we all just get along?

Which part of the accent? You think she does it poorly? Or just the fact that she has to cover her accent at all?
