Totally random, yet useful, thing I found!

I mostly joined tumblr because I felt that I was falling out of touch with people's interests. Not people per se, because the people are still here [sorta?] but the fact is people used to post all their fun stuff over here, and now they post the vast majority of it over there. And I missed that shit, okay?

Anyway, after a couple of weeks, it appears I'm still using it. Enjoying it more than I thought I would, but am still annoyed with about a dozen or so different things about the site. [It's like every day I find something new to hate.] But one of the main reasons I was annoyed with it is that I didn't want to have to go through the hassle of checking multiple blogging/social-networking/media sites a day.

However, I just discovered that I never needed to join tumblr to keep up with my peeps in the first damn place!

LJ has this handy syndication tool where you can follow public RSS feeds on your livejournal friendslist. All tumblrs have an RSS feed. [As do all twitters, if I recall correctly.] If the RSS feed for a site is public, it's intended for people to use to direct all of their blog reading to one site [like Google reader] or one application like... I don't even know of any applications, but I'm sure there are some!

Anyway, livejournal does this shit for you if you scroll to the bottom of that link and plug in the rss feed URL for the blog/tumblr/twitter/newsfeed whatever that you want to follow. If no one else has set it up before, you have to choose a name for it, but other than that, it's easy peasy! I set mine up yesterday as a test to see if it worked and after a few hours [or a half a day or something] it started working.

I'm pretty sure you can add my LJ tumblr to your flist by going here.

I may set a few more up and I guess I'll link to those once they start working.

You learn something new every day.
