So I guess what I'm doing is not leaving LJ.

I have made a concerted effort to post more there this year, and this whole TOS-change has a lot of people running scared/angry. I don't really count myself among them. I don't really like the TOS of any site I use, and I tend to take them with a grain of salt. I'm sure that the the folks who run the site are just trying to keep it alive. But because so many are probably going to make the jump, and this is probably the death rattle of my little group of people still posting, I've decided to at least make DW my "main home."

As in... I'm in the queue to transfer over all of my most recent entries to DW and what I plan to do is just use DW but I'll still continue to cross-post to LJ. I'll still check my flist at LJ as long as people are still posting. (I only do this like once every two weeks though, so that's not saying much, haha.)

If you're leaving LJ and you're moving to DW please let me know in the comments here or there. I'll still be around at both places, I'm krickets at DW and crickets at LJ.

I really miss when LJ was a thing and there were fic happenings and stuff all the time. It was good times.

Anyone know of any good ficathons/comment fic things happening this summer?

I should run one but I don't know if I have the flist power to make people come to it.

Wait..

LJ took away the cut *scissors? I didn't hate them but I didn't particularly like them either.

Totally random, yet useful, thing I found!

I mostly joined tumblr because I felt that I was falling out of touch with people's interests. Not people per se, because the people are still here [sorta?] but the fact is people used to post all their fun stuff over here, and now they post the vast majority of it over there. And I missed that shit, okay?

Anyway, after a couple of weeks, it appears I'm still using it. Enjoying it more than I thought I would, but am still annoyed with about a dozen or so different things about the site. [It's like every day I find something new to hate.] But one of the main reasons I was annoyed with it is that I didn't want to have to go through the hassle of checking multiple blogging/social-networking/media sites a day.

However, I just discovered that I never needed to join tumblr to keep up with my peeps in the first damn place!

LJ has this handy syndication tool where you can follow public RSS feeds on your livejournal friendslist. All tumblrs have an RSS feed. [As do all twitters, if I recall correctly.] If the RSS feed for a site is public, it's intended for people to use to direct all of their blog reading to one site [like Google reader] or one application like... I don't even know of any applications, but I'm sure there are some!

Anyway, livejournal does this shit for you if you scroll to the bottom of that link and plug in the rss feed URL for the blog/tumblr/twitter/newsfeed whatever that you want to follow. If no one else has set it up before, you have to choose a name for it, but other than that, it's easy peasy! I set mine up yesterday as a test to see if it worked and after a few hours [or a half a day or something] it started working.

I'm pretty sure you can add my LJ tumblr to your flist by going here.

I may set a few more up and I guess I'll link to those once they start working.

You learn something new every day.

→ Has anyone noticed the "view the entire thread this comment is a part of" link in your e-mail notifications? I swear that is new because one thing that always bugged me was that for notifications of replies to comments you couldn't link back to the original comment, just the post or your own comment? Gosh I feel like I am explaining this in the most convoluted way possible. I apologize if this is gibberish. In short, I'm happy about the new link.

→ I watched Castle and I was amused with all the quirky fun detective work. Sure she's an actual cop, which goes against my normal rule, but if Nathan manages to be as adorable as he was in the pilot I think it might be a decent Veronica replacement. Since I was asking you guys for "quirky fun detective show" recs a while ago, haha. I agree with whoever on my flist said that if it was anyone but Nathan the character would be more obnoxious but he manages to pull off just shy of obnoxious which is good.

→ A two-item list isn't really a list is it? I should work on thinking through my entries before I start writing them because I absolutely know I had a lot more stuff to talk about. I just can't remember any of it at the moment.

*thinks*

→ I am four episodes into The West Wing. I have no clue why the hell I'm watching another TV show but I have this theory that it's my alter-ego's secret plot to keep me from writing or being creative in any way at all. Sadly, I lack the willpower to put a stop to these sorts of shenanigans. This may have something to do with the fact that I think I kind of love everyone so far.

→ I don't usually go all public announcement on your asses regarding birthdays. I used to try, but I always ended up forgetting and then I'd feel bad. But she's bestest, so I have no choice! Happy Birthday [livejournal.com profile] dayln03!!! Guess what!?!? I got you a PONY! (It's being shipped, don't worry! Actually, I got you two ponies. I named them Chuck and Olive.)

→ You know what I never got? bb! I mean. I understand what it means, but when I see it, I think of her, always.

→ I decided to disable the custom comment pages on my journal. They're more user friendly right? That was the purpose of doing so anyway. We'll see how it works out.

→ For those who haven't seen it and aren't a member, [livejournal.com profile] lenina20 posted an entry about shipping and writing in LOST at [livejournal.com profile] thequillstation. There was also a nice discussion by [livejournal.com profile] falafel_fiction the other week about carrying on when canon disappoints. Both great reads and great discussions in the comments. I haven't participated nearly enough in that community.

→ Another thing I wanted to link to when it was first posted but never got around to doing, was a vidding documentary created by [livejournal.com profile] laurashapiro, Francesca Coppa, OTW and MIT. Very cool.

→ I haven't watched the last two eps of FNL, though I hear they're awesome! I also haven't watched the latest episode of SGA. I'd say I'd do that today, but I think I'm gonna hold out until I get some writing done. I'll reward myself with TV. (We'll see how that pans out, hah.)

→ Speaking of FNL, have you guys seen THIS crazy/awesome promo by DirecTV? Crazy! I just might love it.

→ I'm spamming today apparently.

Here is a hilarious (LisaNova) parody of this laughable segment of Charles Gibson's interview with Sarah Palin. Though admittedly, if you watch them in reverse, it's hard to tell which one is the parody and which one is the real interview, Charlie.

→ I love my new animated That 70s show moodtheme!

→ First. Excuse me. It is lecture time. FLIST! WTF? What is wrong with you!?!?! Why have I not heard of this until now?!?!?! Anthony Stewart Head? Singing his beautiful and talented lungs out!?!?!! Come on! You guys disappoint me. I was so excited when I saw that I think I PEED. Repo! The Genetic Opera. WATCH IT AND TELL ALL YOUR FRIENDS. I don't even mind that you-know-who is in it. (And thank you, Kayla, for the link.)

→ I sort of, haphazardly?, inherited the [livejournal.com profile] conmama comm. So there's that. It's been a big week for me comm-wise I suppose.

→ I watched the pre-air screener TrueBlood 1.02 and, like I've noticed some others mentioning, I think I liked it even better than the first episode! I'm definitely excited about the forthcoming episodes. Very excited!

I already have theories. Theories that I do not like! )

→ I also watched the first two parts of Lost in Austen and holy moly it is super cute! I really enjoyed it. And I recognized the lead actress from Kinky Boots I think. I recommend it to everyone. It's just fun and sweet.

→ Also? I love my new icon and am getting more and more excited for Pushing Daisies by the day.

krickets: (DAISIES. i can feel you)
[livejournal.com profile] kiki_miserychic posted this really adorable video of Ellen and Portia's wedding right here. So lovely. I hope my mom got to see that. She loves Ellen.

→ I think... I think... I may actually be close to writing something soon. I've been reading some fic over the past few days, and it's been giving me lots of motivation. I hadn't been doing much reading lately. Maybe that was my problem all along!

→ I love the hell out of Joshua Jackson. (I was always a Pacey girl.) But I don't know if I can bring myself to watch The Fringe. I mean, I just don't think it's my kind of thing and I watch too much frakking television anyway. Who knows, I may change my mind.

→ However, I did watch True Blood and really liked it! I mean there were parts that I wasn't in love with, but the parts that I did like really made up for it. I'm anxious to see the rest of the season. Also? Speaking of HBO shows, I'm really excited that Entourage is back. But after rewatching all of season 1 and half of season 2 with [livejournal.com profile] dayln03 I realize now that maybe it's not as good as it used to be. This makes me sad. But I will still watch!

→ I pre-ordered the Pushing Daisies DVDs today (I'd been putting it off) and I am so excited for that show to come back I can hardly stand it. It makes me feel warm and happy and giddy and nostalgic and sad and everything. (I'm also really excited for Friday Night Lights to start back up, even though I'm afraid they're gonna frak it up this time around.)

→ I think I may drop out of [livejournal.com profile] bsg_lims. It's not the pressure or the fear that I won't do well. (I never thought I'd get this far, really.) But I honestly hate having to vote for my least favorite icons and give reasons why. It's actually painful. I spend far too much time thinking about what to vote and why and how to word it so I don't hurt anyone's feelings... and it kind of just makes me feel like a big douchebag. And feeling like a douche bag is not exactly on my list of fun things to do.

→ Things at the library are going really well. It's been busy, but I'm enjoying the challenges and I really enjoy helping people. Their gratitude is so rewarding. The only thing I don't enjoy is the fact that it's the third week and people are still coming to me baffled that we don't own and won't lend out textbooks. But I'm hoping I won't have to answer those types of questions for very much longer.

Thank you to everyone who voted in the poll. We have created a Jawyercita comm for those of you who were interested in one. It isn't just a fic comm, but also for graphics, vids, discussion and anything else.

I encourage anyone who is interested to join. In addition to Jack/Sawyer/Claire, the comm will also be for anything gen involving the three, Jack/Claire, and Sawyer/Claire.

When I say we, I mean [livejournal.com profile] dayln03 who made the beautiful banner as well as [livejournal.com profile] slybrunette, both of whom will be maintaining the comm with me. (Not that it's going to become so overrun with members and posts that we'll need three of us, haha.)

[livejournal.com profile] jawyercita! [livejournal.com profile] jawyercita! [livejournal.com profile] jawyercita! [livejournal.com profile] jawyercita!

As far as a bsg rare fic comm, it was discovered that there is, in fact, one in existence already! It's called [livejournal.com profile] bsg_rare. Unfortunately the term "rare" doesn't mean "rarely written" but rather non-canon. So any under-written, yet canon, pairings are not allowed there. I still haven't decided if another comm should be created for rarely written pairings. But it's still good to know that there is something out there for folks who share a liking for alternative pairings.
