Let's talk about Kara in the finale. I tracked down some answers.

The more I thought about/talked about Kara after the show, the more I wanted a more definitive answer. So this morning I went looking for an explanation. I got one.

According to this article, Kara is literally a Christ-like figure. She died at the end of Maelstrom and was resurrected by a higher power, just like Jesus was, she leads the people to earth and then ascends into... heaven?, just like Jesus did.

(I guess it's not technically "just like" Jesus, because clearly she does not embody that higher power herself.)

Anyway, here's the quote:
TVGuide.com: What exactly is Kara at the end of the series? An angel?
Moore: I think Kara remains an ambiguous figure. Kara lived a mortal life, died and was resurrected to get them to their final destiny. Clearly she was a key player in the events that led to [the fleet's] finding a home. And, I don't know if there's any more to it beyond that. I think you could call her an angel, you could call her a demon, the second coming or the first coming, I guess, chronologically speaking. You can say that she had a certain messiah-like quality, in the classic resurrection story. There's a lot of different ways you can look at it, but the more we talked about it, the more we realized there was more in the ambiguity and mystery of it than there was in trying to give it more definition in the end.

I'm not sure how I feel about this. I was happily going to take her disappearance as a metaphor and be on my fic-writing merry way. And I probably still will. (Though I haven't written in a while.) But, really? She's the messiah?

Buzzuh?

While the writer in my would really loved to have Kara build her house and live in it with Lee (since Anders was gone, I could be happy that they would end up together), but I think I accept this answer, and I know as months go by I'll probably like it more than I did when she just disappeared.

I don't know if I'd call her a messiah, but I think that even though they never really explained WHAT she was, I really liked the way in which they sort of brought her quest to a closure.

If that makes any sense so early in the morning...

It makes sense, don't worry.

Why not a cabin with Leoben? Omg, fic!?!? Hehehe. I am so retarded. I loved the finale for the most part. Two things didn't sit with me, that was the sort of non-ending we got for Kara -- even though I am okay with it - especially considering how this has been the best show ever and I am lucky to have even seen it.

The other thing was the way they idiotically split up the groups. I do not get that.

I've just re-watched it and it really solidified my good feelings for it and so other than those two quibbles, I am pleased as punch.

Galactica forever.

I'm not sure if this makes me feel better or worse.

I do know I need fic to make this all go away lol.

Someone posted Kara/Leoben fic last night. No? Heheh. *hugs*

Well, I'll also take Kara/Leoben. You and I both know that's what I default to in times of need, lol.

I don't think so. RDM has categorically denied it in an interview. Even though I don't know if I believe anything he says, lol.

So. She is a slutty, pissing in public, cursin', shootin', blonde chick jesus?

Sounds like they just couldn't come up with the answer, even for themselves. They had to leave it ambiguous because they got too deep. And her just disappearing was way too cheesy for this story.

Well resurrected and ascended, leading her people to the promised land, type messiah figure... not literally pure and good and "god" -- I don't know. I was more satisfied with this finale than I have been with most finales I've seen.

I am going to let it slide.

Lol, yes. It was epic. The first half was incredible. I just thought everything on earth was predictable and cheesy.

I loved it. I am just still hung up on getting such a lame answer. Us guys are all about the logic or plot. I'm noticing women are just enjoying the character endings. I already thought it would end every way it did. Which is why it was disappointing. Roslin dies, Adama cabin. Kara/Lee would never work, Gaius finally not a dick, Helo/Athena/Hera check, check, check.

Reminded me of LOTR's ending. Epic, but too long.

But also remember i havent been a loyal fan for years, so I don't have as much of an attachment to the show either. So maybe thats why

That's about what I figured was the deal. It's still kind of WTF, though.

She's Gandalf, obvs.

Hahaha, holy crap I totally thought of Gandalf late last night. "I am Starbuck the white."

Oh, man. Hahaha.

Did you also see this?

I haven't re-watched yet, which I'm going to. But on first watching I was actually pretty happy not quite knowing about Kara. So much of the rest was spelled out, it's nice to have a little bit of mystery.

Any mention of 'messiah' just makes me think of The Life of Brian: 'She's not the messiah, she's just a very naughty pilot!'

Hee.

Yeah I read that as well.

Yes, they did need to leave some to the imagination I agree.

I am so bad, I have never seen Life of Brian. Haha. That's actually a line from that? How crazy.

Well, no. I paraphrased. It's "he's not the messiah, he's just a very naughty boy!' The film is about a guy called Brian who gets mistakedn for Jesus.

Yeah, your metaphor idea was the only thing that got me to stop crying hysterically on Friday night, so thank you sincerely for that.

I feel like they weren't leading up to her being an angel or a demon or Jesus'-predecessor all season, which is why it irked me so much. It just felt like they were going somewhere with Kara that never got fulfilled.

Aw, well I'm glad I could help. That can definitely still be used for fic purposes. There was another interview where he definitely denied the idea that she was a ghost. He cited her piloting a viper*, she was there, she was Kara. Ya know. So at least the disappearing didn't render Kara of season 4 a mirage or something head!like.
