Since the show didn't give it to me, gigglemonster made me this! Lost finale spoilers in the comments, even though I'm pretty sure every one of you has seen it already.
Right. Not even a look? Ugh. Boone and Jack got a serious hug. Jack couldn't have like, squeezed Claire's shoulder or something? LOL. Pretty much ALL I wanted out of this season was a totally innocent brother and sister hug from the two of them. And I DIDN'T GET IT.
Yeah but he did die saving her and everyone else. I think the reason Jack had to go back is because he is a man of faith. And he does believe the island is important in a world scope way. And his smile at the plane flying over was brutal to watch.
Haha, but he couldn't hug her in the afterlife? Come on, Jack. You can do better than that. /sarcasm
I have yet to appreciate the full weight of Jack's sacrifice. I have had this empty, sort of nauseated feeling all day and I think that's cause the show is over and because Jack is dead.
And all I can think about is that fucking dog -- it's such emotional blackmail. Who doesn't love dogs?
It totally fucking is. They ripped at every heartstring they could find. And honestly? Its because they are good at it and they are not good at mythology. Like bad. Really fucking bad.
But yeah. It was such blackmail. And it worked on me.
I didn't feel anything in the episode until Jack went back. LMAO. Two minutes before I was going 'Ah so this is how they kill Jack'. As cold as a robot. But shit, they really captured the nature of his character in that scene. He can never be happy in this life, because he cares too much. It is kind of like seeing a buddy or yours die. You've seen the dude struggle and be kicked to the ground. Some seriously damaged characters on that show.

That is a really sad thought. Especially that I have often thought that I deeply identify with that quality in Jack.
Jack did become a man of faith, but I never truly believed in it all. And that's pretty much the fault of the writers, who as you've said, just don't do mythology well. And it kind of disappoints me that Jack gave up everything for this. But I am determined to give the finale another watch at some point [hopefully soon] and reassess my thoughts.
