I primarily use #1 even though given that I have curly hair I realllly should be sticking to #4. ETA: And by #4 I mean #5. See I can't even get that right online.

I have the straightest hair ever, I would never have guessed that curly hair should require a comb rather than a brush. Huh. You learn something new every day!

I think the brush makes curly hair extra-frizzy or something? Or it's that you're not supposed to brush wet hair and most people with curly hair learn the hard way that you really shouldn't mess with it once it's dry.

I have heard you're not supposed to brush wet hair but do I listen? LOL. NO!

lol I voted wrong and now I think I managed to correct it. Anyway, it depends on the kind of hair you have, really, but I think the 5th is more or less universally acknowledged to be wonderful for taking out knots (even though the one I use is wood not plastic). And I particularly like those cylindrical brushes, my hair is quite straight though... most people I know like the 1st.

Yeah most people I know like the 1st or 2nd as well. Which is called a paddle brush by the way and it seems extremely similar to the first, but was listed as a separate "type" of brush so I put it in here too.

I actually don't even know what the point of this poll was, other than boredom. I honestly have never regularly used a comb. I've pretty much exclusively used brushes. Perhaps I should invest, lol.

Paddle brush? lol. I was just writing this comment and I couldn't think of the word for the 5th. Comb? Sometimes I have trouble with the silliest words in English. Comb is one nothing like Portuguse, though, (Pente) so I guess it's legit.

hahaha you should! It's good for untangling your hair. I've always been told that combs are much better for wet hair, and they make your tiny uneven hairs settle down a lot more than brushes do.

I've used a lot of different combs and brushes over the years, and my current go-to is a pick or a wide-tooth comb. Not for any particular reason, except my hair's pretty short and thick, so brushes don't do me a whole lot of good right now. I need to invest in a good roller brush at some point, but have neither the funds nor the inclination to do so at the moment.

My mom loves #3 and swears by it. She does have shorter hair too. Is that the kind you mean?

Yeah, though I want one with a thicker barrel and boar bristles.

I've got thick, coarse, wavy/curly hair and the best thing I've found for it is a detangler comb:

It's kinda hard to see there but the teeth are wavy instead of straight. I've gotten brushes tangled in my hair in the past, yikes, so this definitely works best for me. If I need something to just sort of "fine-tune" things, then I have a brush that's similar to #4. But I never send that thing in to attack my hair on its own. My hair would eated it. *nodnod* O_O ;) ♥!

Oh that looks nifty! Maybe someone here who needs it will see it! Very fancy!

My hair would eated it.
I love you Ais, lol. [And your icon too!]

I read you have straight hair. I do too and I use #1. I think it's the best. And the great thing is that it's easy to clean it too! Much more so than #3 which is similar to one I used to have.

Yeah totally easy to clean. I agree!

I have no idea what kind of brush I'm supposed to use for my hair type. *shrug* I think my brush is like at least 5 years old too. I should get a new one...thank you for reminding me!

Oh you should try to find one like the one Aislynn uses! Apparently, you're not supposed to BRUSH wet hair, and you're not supposed to BRUSH your hair after it's dry if you have curly hair, hahah.

Ahhh really? Oh yeah I just read her comment and my hair is pretty much exactly like that. Innnteresting. I guess I shall have to invest in a comb instead!

I used number 2 for awhile, then I cut my hair and didn't need something that big so I use number 1.

You have interesting polls. I'm still curious as to what the 'pick a random number between 1 &20' experiment was all about.

I kind of want to get one of the #2s it looks like it'd be fun to hold and use just cause it's so big, lol. But not to carry in your purse!

These polls honestly just come out of boredom most of the time!

I will reveal my intentions with that last poll soon! ;)

I use a pick when it's wet and a brush like #1 when it's dry. Long wavy girl here. I should look into one of those detangler combs mentioned above.

I feel like I should mix it up a bit. I love the way that detangler one looks. It's nifty! Although with my straight hair I probably don't need it, haha.

I have straight hair and I use a brush like #2 to actually comb and de-snarl my hair, by then I have a large tourmaline vented brush that I use when I dry my hair and want to give it volume and/or curl it under. :) eta: kinda like this one.

Wow I don't think I could bring myself to spend almost 30 dollars on a brush, no matter how cool, lol.

I think my mom used to use one like that and I tried once or twice to do the whole blow dry/volume thing but it never really worked out for me. My hair's my hair, pretty much no matter what I do to it.

I have short hair and just use my fingers - I haven't owned a brush in years!

Hahah, you do have short hair! That would be awesome to not have to fuss with it at all. But I would look terrible with hair as short as that. Not everyone can pull it off as well as you!

Hmm...I have a brush that looks like #1 and a brush that looks like #3, but less...bristly.

Straightest hair ever? Nah. I'll fight you for that title. lol We've both got straight hair. Your hair, I've noticed, is thicker than mine. I've got fine hair which doesn't do much of anything.

You've seen my sister's hair. It's curly and wavy. Once she lets it dry, it turns all wavy and pretty. I kind of want her hair, but the genes didn't turn out that way. :D

Anyway...blah, blah, blah. Are you in the market for a new brush?

Date: 2010-06-17 04:38 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] crickets.livejournal.com
You know, you just might have straighter hair than I do, hahaha.

I once knew someone who's hair turned curly after a short hair cut grew out. Too bad that seems more like a fairy tale than real life. Haha.

Not really, I was just so bored at work yesterday that I didn't know what to do with myself! Hahah.

I typically go for the paddle type brushes. (Never had the square kind, though I've always wanted one for no real reason.) I've had a brush like #3 tangle in my hair when I was younger, so I tend to stay away from those, and the bristles in #4 can create some fierce static in my ridiculously straight hair! lol I often use a comb when putting my hair up, to make everything neater.

I've donated to Locks of Love a few times now and through that have heard, especially when growing hair out, you shouldn't do too much with your hair while it's wet - this is when it's most prone to excess breakage. They recommend that if you must brush your hair while it's wet, use a very wide toothed comb, and to towel dry a good deal of moisture from your hair before blow drying (though letting it dry naturally is best).

I've heard this about brush #3. Seems dangerous! Yeah I can't help it, I always comb my hair before blow drying. And I don't always blow dry when totally wet but I often do. My hair often will NOT air dry. The weather has to be JUST RIGHT for it to cooperate.
