→ Speaking of, apparently there's some tumblr backlash going on right now. [1, 2, 3, 4] I can't say that I particularly disagree. In fact, what I would really like to say, is "I told you fucking so." Because I have been saying this shit for a year. I have more to say about the issue, though I'm not planning on taking "the pledge" right this second, but I think I'll save all of that for a post of its own.

→ That being said, if you do feel like you want to try and consolidate your internet habits, you can create syndicated RSS accounts for tumblrs at right here at livejournal and have them show up on your friends list. [If they haven't already been created already.] Every single tumblr account has an RSS feed. The purpose of an RSS feed is to syndicate the content so that you don't have to visit fifteen blogs a day to get caught up on everything that you read. This can be done in a variety of ways and one of those ways is following content through your livejournal. It will show up right on your flist alongside your friends posts.


If you have a paid account, you can create the syndicates yourself by going here to LJ's syndication page. If you don't have a paid account, you could always ask me or another of your friends with paid accounts to create the syndicated account. [As far as I know, you don't have to have a paid account to subscribe to the feeds, however.]

Step One: Copy & Paste the RSS feed address into the "Feed URL" box at the bottom of this page. [For tumblr, that's always going to be: http://PAGENAME.tumblr.com/rss.]

Step Two: Hit "ADD FEED."

Step Three-A: If the RSS feed has already been syndicated by another LJ user, it will automatically show up on your friends list. The only thing you have to do at that point is choose which filter [if you have filters set up] that you want it to show up under.

Step Three-B: If the RSS feed has not already been syndicated by another LJ user, you will have to give it a unique username. I find that putting "_rss" or "tblr" or something similar at the end of the name helps. Once you've created the syndication, it will be added to your subscriptions and from there you simply have to choose which filter you'd like to put it on.

You can always remove a syndicated feed from your flist later, just as you could anything else.

WARNING: If you're created a brand new syndicated feed, within the first couple of hours, all of the RSS feed's most recent posts will show up en masse on your flist.

WARNING II: I don't think livejournal [or maybe tumblr] updates the feed continuously, so if the feed is particularly active, you may see a handful of posts at one time on your flist on a day-to-day basis. [I could easily be wrong about this, I'm not really sure.]
