I really don't have any issue with the casting thus far, but I'd like to make these suggestion before John C. Reilly is set in stone. Will anyone out there hear me?

They are all probably way too fit, but you can totally fake a beer belly.

Exactly! Actors gain/lose weight for roles all the time!

I would love to see Tony Goldwyn as Haymitch! I think Liev's a bit too 'pretty', and Dennis Quaid (albeit a very good actor nowadays) a bit too old, but the idea of John C. Reilly as the character makes my hair curl. :| After all of the stuff he's done with Will Ferrel, it's strange to think of him in a more serious role, and he's just too... sloppy looking? to be Haymitch, imo.

I have always sort of had this thing for Liev -- and I think they're all very pretty. If they're going to cast an "older" actor, I think Quaid would be a good choice. He definitely does not look his age (but he doesn't look twenty years younger either, maybe 10 though!)

Honestly I haven't seen any of the crap Rielly's done with Will Ferrel. And the only things I have seen him in I found him very likeable. So seeing his more dramatic stuff, it's easy to see that he has the chops to pull it off, but he is just not Haymitch in my opinion. I will be OK with it if they ultimately go with him, but I would prefer that they didn't.

Oh, me too. He's very pleasing to the eye. ;) With that line of thinking, Dennis Quaid would be an excellent fit. I think because I grew up with him as a father figure in the movies I watched as a kid in the 90s, it's hard for me to see him in a role like this.

And haha, I was *just* about to edit my comment, re: Reilly being an excellent actor in the dramas he's been in. IA, though -- he's no Haymitch.

Totally down with the Dennis Quaid plan.

Please tell me you are joking about John C. Reilly. Please, for the love of god, tell me that's a fan theory and not rumored to be reality.

He is "in talks" but I don't know what that means. I don't know if that means he is the only person "in talks" and he just hasn't signed a contract yet or what. No idea.

Yeah, in talks might not mean anything. Hopefully doesn't mean anything. They said that about various people when they were casting the leads, so.

As if I needed another reason not to see this movie, lol.

**sadface**

I sure hope that's right. But then it means that Elizabeth Banks is not necessarily a shoe in, which would be a shame cause she would be good.

for me Haymitch is RDJ, but I can see your choices playing him also, especially Liev and Dennis.

I dunno about RDJ. I wouldn't mind him, but I think I am thrown off by the brand that he's sorta become over the last few years.

I'm so over The Hunger Games movie already and it's not even made yet! I'm usually not one to write something off this early, but this casting so far has been very irksome. Any of your suggestions would be so much better than John C. Reilly, who...no. Tony Goldwyn would be an interesting choice, it's one I haven't heard anywhere else yet. I also think Hugh Laurie would be a good fit too, which some other folks suggested.

I don't have any major issues with any of the casting yet to be honest. I definitely am unhappy with the Gale choice but I'm willing to give that actor a chance and I even watched that Miley Cyrus movie in order to see what he could do.

The John C. Reilly thing, so not what I pictured at all though. So I'm hoping that the "in talks" announcement doesn't mean that he's their only choice right now. Although I'm afraid that might be exactly what it means. Disappointing.

I'd love any of these guys, anyone over John C. Reilly. I know he's a good actor(and he could surprise us) but for this role he's a big fat DNW for me. And I've been pretty chill with all other choices so far.

I feel like, especially after seeing him in Cirque du Freak: The Vampire's Assistant, that he can come of as extremely cartoonish. Which is bad. I feel like Haymitch might have some of those qualities but I always saw him a bit darker. And him being such a major character, if Reilly does end up coming off that way in this, it's going to color the entire production -- the entire feel of the films.

See, I wasn't even able to finish that movie. lmao I got about 20 mins in and I was like - thanks but no thanks.

Okay, I'll be honest, I watched the whole thing and liked it. I can definitely get down with some campy stuff like that. But The Hunger Games is not campy! *puts foot down*

Wikipedia has Haymitch listed on Reilly's filmography. I hope some happy editor just jumped the gun on that one.
