I spent the better part of the day figuring out how to alter my layout. I studied this excellent tutorial by the fabulous [livejournal.com profile] irinafan. I started with the CSS from my previous layout, rather than from the original flexible squares stylesheet, which some of you might remember was designed by [livejournal.com profile] wavesoak. There are still a handful of things I haven't figured out quite yet, so if something looks askew, it probably is. I'm working on it. Despite these minor setbacks, I'm extremely proud of my new layout. I haven't really done any web design in a long time, though I'm still very familiar with CSS2 and proper coding practices. So this was an interesting "see if I can still do this" experiment. Let me know what you think and if anything is glaringly out of place.

[livejournal.com profile] turquoisetumult posted the following meme:

1. Reply to this post and I'll assign you a letter.
2. Upload 5 songs that start with that letter.
3. Post them to your journal with these instructions.

I was assigned the letter M. Songlist and downloads are under the cut. Songs are uploaded to YSI, let me know if the links run out and you want a re-upload. I'd be more than happy.

Mercy - Jonathan Elias: This is part one of a nine part symphony called The Prayer Cycle. I learned of it several years ago when I heard this particular track. I had no idea what it was but I couldn't forget it. It wasn't in English, but was hauntingly beautiful. I recognized one voice - Alanis Morrissette singing in Hungarian. Though at the time I didn't know it was Hungarian. It took me probably about a year to finally discover the name of the album and I immediatetly went out and bought it. Best end to a wild goose chase ever.

Middle Man - Jack Johnson: from his album Brushfire Fairytales. Classic Jack Johnson style. The faint hint of island sounds, humourously arranged lyrics, and a little bit of bite.

Mr. Curiosity (LIVE) - Jason Mraz: from Geekin' Out Across the Galaxy. I've always wanted to see Mr. Mraz live and this is one of the reasons. Personally I think he's one of the most talented lyricists out right now, not to mention that gorgeous voice. Not to be missed.

My Doorbell - The White Stripes: from Get Behind Me Satan - Nothing beats The White Stripes and Jack White (♥♥♥!). I loved this song from their latest album. It's kickass, so download it!

Move On - JET: from Get Born. JET's awesome. I have really relished the "return of the rock band" that's occurred over the past few years. JET proves that they're a real rock band by mixing in this cross between a southern rock soul song and a power ballad among the likes of Are You Gonna Be My Girl? and my personal favorite Cold Hard Bitch. If you only know JET from the radio, this is certainly worth a listen.

I've got a lot of letters to give away people, don't be shy.

Looks great!

The layout does not look skewed at all. I left you a shoutout on the MQMB!! Cuz I don't have AIM at the moment and the stupid AIM express isn't working. *pout* I miss you!!!! Becca was playing Weezer's green album the other day and "Island in the Sun" cam on and instantly I cried, "This is me & KC's song!!!!" And since I have had thoughts of resurrecting the black knights, but I cannot get to my old designs at the moment as floppy drives have apparently become obsolete while I wasn't paying attention and I do not have one anymore. till I go to staples and buy one. This is getting long now.

I MISS YOU!!!!!!

I just looked at it in IE and for some reason IE makes my banner the wrong color. (Or maybe it interprets the hex color differently?) Either way, it doesn't look great in IE. But who still uses IE? I don't wanna think about it. Hahaha. Maybe one day soon I'll care enough to try to fix it. I can't believe you still have your same layout. It's been that way for YEARS. Incredible.

I'm still trying to figure out two things on this one, but so far no luck. We'll see.

Aw, island in the sun, hip hip! I miss you too my Oz-shaped friend!
