So here's a theory...

Ruby is Lucifer.

Why bring up the mythology if it wasn't important to the storyline? She called herself a fallen angel, which is exactly what Lucifer is. And that fact, I believe was also stated in the episode tonight.

And what better way to get Sam to embrace his dark side and take his place as leader of the demon army than to get him to do a bunch of evil deeds in the name of saving his brother?

(ETA) And if she is the fallen angel in question, she'd totally be able to get Dean out of his deal.

I have some more, less coherent thoughts on this that I might try to pull together for an ETA at a later time.

Just food for thought!

And also! No BSG until April? What the frak? Summer!?!?!

But if she is Lucifer, why would she/he(?) need to take Sam's place. Wouldn't she already be the leader? *thinks* It's an interesting theory, I went a different way in my review, but either way Ruby rox. ;)

That's a good point, but then why would Azazel, a "lesser" demon, have been the leader in the first place if Lucifer could lead himself?

That, in turn, is a good point as well. What a thinky episode this was!
