happy frakkin' new year!
Dec. 29th, 2007 11:33 amI'm grumpy, therefore, looked around for some year-ending memes to help me not axe-murder the nearest small animal/child/parent.
1) Harken back to your archives.
2) Collect the first sentence (or two) you wrote every month for the whole year.
3) Entertain us.
4) My rule, I'm skipping fic/vid/icon headers, meme instructions, lists, and labeling stuff cause that's just confusing. And also? Lame.
January: Classes resume in about a week. I'm not terribly stoked but I'm so done being stuck at home all the time. So. DONE.
February: Even though he was tall, Sun could tell that he was no more than eighteen.
March: I guess that's how death works. It doesn't matter if we're ready or not. It just happens.
April: For the record, I hate this month because I have weird formatting stuff so it's hard to tell where the first sentence actually is, there's colons and name tags and quotes and... here: i think michael prefers for it to be called "Neverland", not "Jackson Hole."
May: Every word was a lie.
June: This very moment, just under my window, they are grinding my willow tree to bits.
July: Help me!
August: Ohmygod!
September: Just a quick little note to say I'm going out of town through the long weekend.
October: A couple folks on my flist posted this already, but in case you haven't seen it... BSG S4 PROMO! *hyperventilates*
November: It's hot and cold, this Supernatural.
Decenber: I've been kind of hanging back, gaging the responses of others.
Fandom year in review, stolen from
browncoatjack:
01. What fandoms did you acquire in 2007?
Battlestar Galactica, Supernatural, Friday Night Lights, Pushing Daisies, Due South-kinda, and basically Callum! (I'm probably forgetting something. Wow. That's sad.)
02. What fandoms did you let go of in 2007?
I would say Dexter and Entourage. I still watch Entourage but I no longer make icons or anything. Just have no desire. Dexter, though, I just completely gave up watching the show. Also, Grey's Anatomy. I dropped that sucker like a rock mid-season last year and haven't looked back.
03. What fandoms did you mean to get into but didn't in 2007?
Stargate Atlantis. Tough and Cuddles require it, but I'm too slow. I'll get there eventually. *smishes them*
04. What fandoms do you intend to check out in 2008?
SGA and... I feel like the world wants me to watch Dr. Who but I'm pretty sure it's not going to happen. I appreciate David Tennant and his adorable-ness and the heartbreaking though un-filled-in stories of Rose and Martha, but I think I'm keen to view the pretties from afar. I'll still watch fan vids though. Hehe. I think the main reason I won't allow myself to get into the show is because I know, ahead of time no less, that people tend to disappear. 9, Rose, Martha next and soon 10? I can't take all the heartache!
05. What fandoms do you think you might let go of unless things significantly improve in 2008?
Supernatural. I just... yeah. It makes me sad. The other day I was watching a video and there was a section that summed up last year's finale and I honestly thought, "Oh! I can't wait for Supernatural to come back!" And then I remembered, "Oh wait... it already has..." Or as Dayln so eloquently put it, "A show that calls itself Supernatural, but is not Supernatural, came back in its place."
06. What fandoms do you think you'll never let go of no matter how crappy they get? Why?
Supernatural. Hahaha. What? And BSG, FNL, and LOST (we have a haven)... okay yeah. I'm a sucker.
Out of the cut:
07. What show impressed you most in 2007?
Hands down Battlestar Galactica. I have never been a fan of sci fi. Ever. It was more like, try and make me. And this show, this show. It's political, it's spiritual, it's sociological, it's emotional and real and it raises all kinds of interesting questions about the nature of humanity, and not just in this far away spacey place, but right here in our own backyards, and even in our own minds. The characters are flawed and real, and I don't feel like a single one of them functions as a prop. They carry with them histories and life and I love everybody and every minute and every word. Even if I don't. I would recommend this show to every single living human who's not both blind and deaf. Sorry, Helen Keller.

Date: 2007-12-29 06:32 pm (UTC)I think what is killing the show for me is Ruby. She's so... I don't even have words for her. But I don't like her deus ex machina attitude, and I'm kind of hoping it comes back to bite them all in the ass.
I still like Bela, and I'm hoping she'll turn out to be an unexpected ally when it gets down to Dean's deal. I don't want her to save the day, but I'd love for Sam to end up owing her something for saving Dean's soul (and wouldn't that be an interesting twist - saving Dean means the boys are forever indebted to another human being, one they really don't like so much).
