Okay so, as previously mentioned, I re-installed Windows on Sunday. I was in the middle of a vidding project at the time. But no worries I backed everything up on my hard drive. So yesterday I opened my project file, just to make sure that it was all in working order. And it was. So good, yay, happy, claps, etc.

But tonight, Dayln and I started working on a fun little fifteen second challenge for each other. And I noticed it was rendering much more slowly than usual. At first, I assumed it was simply because I hadn't entered in my usual rendering specs and it was probably rendering at a much higher quality/rate/etc than I'm used to. So when I went to render the entire (mega-monster-huge!) fifteen second clip (over half of which is still just black space!) it decided it was going to take eternity Finally I ended up just letting it render at 256k and it took seven minutes. Seven. MINUTES for a fifteen second clip, well over half of which doesn't even have video clips.

I thought maybe there was the off-chance it was the Firefly episode I was using, so I opened up my HCL project and tried to render a 20 second clip at 256k... it was projecting 30 minutes+ I stopped it before it could climb any higher.

Normally, something like that would take 1-3 minutes to render, at a much higher quality on my computer. Now. It's the same computer. I just re-installed windows. So I know this computer can render with Vegas (6.0) much more quickly. The question is... how do I fix this shit? Cause there is NO WAY I can vid like this.

Do any of my vidding buddies out there have any suggestions for me?

ETA: So the main issue was that my USB Port drivers weren't re-installed so it was running at standard (not hi) speed. Go me. Thank you [livejournal.com profile] purestvixen for figuring that one out for me! It's fixed it significantly, though I'm not sure its performing like it used to. But that remains to be seen. Wish me luck!

Do you know what size you had your virtual memory set at? I don't know if it IS that, but if you expanded it before the reinstall, it would have reset itself during the process. Maybe try setting it stupidly high, like I have mine, and see if that helps. That's really the only thing I can think of, though :OS

I upped that and it didn't seem to help at all. So then I got to thinking, maybe its the external. And I checked and my USB PORT drivers weren't installed. And soo... it seems to be working much better now. Maybe not quite where I want it to be or where it was before. but that same clip took only two and a half minutes to load in a higher render setting. Instead of 7 at a much lower render. So I'm happy about that! For sure.

I had a similar problem two weeks ago... took me 15 minutes to render a 7 second clip, and the response time was awful. I defragmented and it helped...

Hmm I dunno I just wiped my hard drive and re-installed windows. I'm not sure defrag would be industrious at this point. However, I did come to realize that my USB port drivers weren't installed. So that's helped significantly. I may try defrag later though because I'm not sure its up to snuff yet.

Thanks Trey. I think that main issue was I didn't have my USB port drivers installed and since the project files were located in the external hard drive, it was going slow because of that. Installed them and its helped significantly.
