TV Round-Up

→ Grey's Anatomy: Am I the only one who feels like this show has ADD? Either that or they're so focused on misdirection that I just literally have no clue what is going to happen next. Next episode is a Private Practice crossover. My least favorite of all. Boo.
→ The Vampire Diaries: I watched it. I have a lot of feelings. Many of them involve Elijah. Some of them involve Kol and the word confusion. Is it just me or are Matt and Elena totally going to end up rekindling their childhood romance this season? I am down with that. *draws hearts around them* What? I can't help it that I'm a shameless multi-shipper. It's a thing I do!
→ Hart of Dixie: I'm kind of glad they brought up Lemon's "visit" with her mom over Christmas as a reason for her kind of manic behavior lately. She's one of my favorite parts of the show and she's been kind of getting the sour end of things lately in terms of likability and character growth. Good to know there's an explanation.
→ Switched at Birth: I finally caught up with this show. Still enjoying it a lot. Emmett is still freakin' adorable. However... if I hear John or Kathryn refer to Angelo and Regina as "that man" or "that woman" -- with the TONE to boot - one more goddamn time I might have to write a strongly worded letter. Are they serious? C'mon!
→ Jane by Design: This was recommended to me by some friends and I am really enjoying it! The plot is: High school senior mistakenly interviews for an admin assistant position in the fashion world, gets the position, and then has to try and juggle her life. Basically it's a silly premise, but with really likable actors/characters. It's very cute and as I discussed with Dayl earlier, there's actual tongue kissing! (Not important, just an observation!) Basically my overall feelings are that Jane Quimby and Billy Nutter need to hook up sooner rather than later, cause it's just inevitable isn't it? And also that Ben Quimby gives off a very Paul Rudd "vibe," which is okay by me!
→ Parenthood: I kind of feel like everything is about to come crashing down. For example: I want Amber to be happy and I feel like she is doing a great job and her romance is stinkin' adorable, even if slightly inappropriate, but I feel like that's all going to be taken from her. You could write a sentence like that about basically any other character, Crosby, Sarah (oh god, especially Sarah), Julia, etc. It all feels so precarious! I'm frightened for my beloved Bravermans!
→ Revenge: I promised a more detailed review but pretty much all I can muster is some incoherent mumbling, random guesses as to what is going to happen at that damn party, and basically just shouting Nolan's name in between bouts of hysteria. If I can gather my thoughts before Wednesday night I will present them to you. If not, this is all you get.
→ I'm behind on pretty much everything else that I can think of, Lost Girl, Suburgatory, Modern Family, Shameless, Parks and Rec, etc.

Date: 2012-02-13 04:01 am (UTC)Also, I kind of want to see how closely they're following the books in terms of MAJOR plot developments. Every now and then I hear things that make me believe that they have some small similarities. If Elena in the books even turns, since she's the main character, I'm more willing to believe it will inevitably happen on the show. However, for me to know that (within the context of the book-verse) I'd probably have to read the books and I'm not sure I'm that devoted.

Date: 2012-02-13 04:15 am (UTC)I've heard there was a Klaus in the books. But that's all I've heard in terms of similarities. I just can't get involved in reading an on-going series.

Date: 2012-02-13 04:40 am (UTC)I like that Lemon's fiance (George?) finally brought up how distanced he's felt from her. She really did need to break down in front of him. I used to think that Lavonne and Lemon were true loves but I like him and Didi. He's healing. And George really does love Lemon. Once he understood, he forgave her. And she finally has someone to go to for support. What's up with her mother?
I don't understand what you mean about 'that man' or 'that woman'. I thought they were just mad because Regina and Angelo both lied in their own way. No Emmett last week! I vote every ep have Emmett on The Emmett Show.
Parenthood - I'm not caught up but I've seen seasons 1 and 2 and then just watched 3x17 and 3x18. Can only see the last five streaming but I think I've maybe seen enough. I don't get Jasmine. You either want Crosby or you don't. Can't have it both ways. Do you think the birth mother will really give up that baby? I'm actually losing sympathy for Amber. She needs to stop having romances with inappropriate people!
Emilie was on Once Upon a Time tonight! She remains awesome. :-)
ETA: We actually have three shows in common, Crickets! I'm holding my breath that I don't kill one of them by watching it. Happened with Misfits. :-/

Date: 2012-02-13 05:06 am (UTC)I think the thing about her mom that gets me, is not necessarily that her mom bailed. That's totally a thing that people do. But her father? How can he really believe that she's ever ever coming back for them, and him in particular? Talk about delusional. I mean, it's one thing for a daughter to want and hope for her mom back, but if your wife left you a decade and a half ago and you're still keeping her crap around thinking she's coming home, you need a wake up call! (And hopefully he got it when Lemon told him the truth.)
Re: "that man" and "that woman." I actually only remember them referring to Angelo as "that man" once, though it's possible they've done it more than once. But Kathryn in particular has called Regina "that woman" several times that I recall. It's really dismissive and belittling to Regina. And the fact that she's a poor, single, latino, only amplifies its effect. "That woman" has a name. And she happens to live in their guest house and is the biological mother of the daughter that they raised, and the mother of their own biological daughter. And even though they feel betrayed because a) Regina found out about the switch when Daphne and Bay were three and b) she later lied about knowing -- they also sit in very high judgement of Regina's life and choices. Which I get, it's part of the dynamic of the show and gives them hurdles to overcome. But calling her "that woman" repeatedly just hits all sorts of buttons with me.
ETA: I wanted to say that I am glad they finally addressed this in the episode with the grandmother. Kathryn acknowledging that she's a little bit prejudiced against latinos because she locks things up with workers who came to the house but that she didn't do that with the white workers that came to the house.
Emmett definitely should be a requirement.
I am really unsure about the baby. I kind of believed her when she told Joel that he shouldn't worry. From experience though (my brother and his wife had an open adoption with their first son) this is exactly what adoptive parents live in fear of until the adoption is final. (My brother even had trouble getting the birth father to sign papers in much the same way.) I do realize they're setting it up to be this heartbreaking moment when or if it falls through. But in general, they may just be trying to heighten that feeling of terror that this could fall through at any moment that many adoptive families live with. And they're doing a great job with it.
I really do hope that Crosby moves on. I think this is finally it for them, but then again they both always kind of glance back at each other longingly (in turns!) which just drags it all out even more. My mom has issues with Jasmine but I tend to like her. Crosby can be a real kid about things sometimes. Like when she's trying to explain to him that Dr. Joe was buying the house on his own and simply invited Jasmine and Jabar to move in with him. He wouldn't hear it. He definitely doesn't make it easy on her.
I heard that about Emilie! Neat!
*crosses fingers*

Date: 2012-02-13 06:24 am (UTC)I thought that's what you meant about Regina. I actually liked the Dos Fridas ep very well with Meredith Baxter that brought a lot of these issues to light. That Kathryn's mother could totally switch her affection to her biological granddaughter was heartbreaking. As was how Daphne's former friend rejected her because 'she never looked like any Latina she knew'. Those situations felt very painful and real. Emmett being around could have eased things a bit for both girls. :-)
I ship Jasmine/Crosby only out of extreme Jabbar love. That kid's smile warms my heart. But they are an odd match. Crosby can be so immature (sleeping with Lila the edcuational aide was a big mistake) and Jasmine can be controlling and inflexible.
A man building/buying a house for a woman is so romantic. If Jasmine can't see that now, she never will.
They'll be okay. Maybe not Craig T. Nelson. But somehow his financial woes from season 1 magically resolved. Amber didn't get too hurt in her accident. They'll all be okay.

Date: 2012-02-13 04:45 am (UTC)Vampire Diaries - Now, I really am pissed that Jeremy's gone because he and Kol canoodling, perfect.
Revenge - <3
GA - It was getting back to 2nd-season kind of awesome but the past few episodes were crap.
HoD - I love this show but I'm a little meh about the last few eps.

Date: 2012-02-13 05:14 am (UTC)I'm not sure canoodling would be in the cards for them, but some kind of "troublemaker sibling" glaring might be in order.
Yeah I'm bummed about Grey's last two eps. I expected more. Especially from that crazy AU episode. It was super disappointing.
Agreed about HoD. I think part of it has been Lemon's spiral. Some might also be because Judson is boring. I want another episode where we see George and Wade team up, and Lemon can play too. Because they were adorable.

Date: 2012-02-13 10:10 am (UTC)The AU ep should have been awesome but it felt forced. The only thing I kinda loved was Alex/Meredith.

Date: 2012-02-14 11:09 pm (UTC)See Alex/Mere would have been awesome if it hadn't ended so quickly. I mean still, it was awesome to see it for that half a second. But I disliked the idea that NO MATTER WHAT they're going to end up in the same place they are now. It just seems trite and totally not at all how the world works.

Date: 2012-02-15 12:02 am (UTC)I know you like Bay but ugh, I dislike her. So much. Emmett should be the star of this show.

Date: 2012-02-13 08:25 am (UTC)OMG THAT WOULD BE SO GREAT. DO WANT.
Too bad that 1)this show has a massive case of NO HOMO, and 2)Nathaniel Buzolic is a Evangelical Conservative Christian and almost certainly not down with making out with dudes on screen.

Date: 2012-02-14 11:14 pm (UTC)It was kind of uncomfortable but kind of sweet too. I mean, not the fact that he promoted her, cause he should have known better, but just their whole little flirtation comes off as sweet and very innocent. It doesn't come off as creepy at all. Besides, I'm telling myself it's okay because it's a temporary job because there's gotta be an election some time right? It's like a "summer job" kinda, lol.
I am really hoping this thing with Amber doesn't crush her. Is it wrong to cross my fingers for a happy ending?
Sent you a text, btw.

Date: 2012-02-13 06:41 pm (UTC)I've been watching Switched at Birth, too. I never noticed what you did, but now I will and it's probably going to drive me nuts. What drives me crazy is that Bay has knocked herself out learning sign language to talk to Daphne and Emmett, but Kathryn only knows a few signs and John doesn't seem to know any. What's up with that?! It just seems odd to me that they want to get to know Daphne, but they don't learn sign language to speak with her. Also? Is it just me or does it seem that Regina talks slower when she's signing? I don't see the same thing with Emmett and his mother. Is it because the actress who plays Regina only learned to sign when she started the show? I mean she's doing a fantastic job but it's something I notice sometimes.

Date: 2012-02-14 11:25 pm (UTC)Hah! See, this is why you should never listen to me. (I'm KIDDING!) I sincerely hope they never say it again, and so you won't have to worry with it. It's definitely bothered me. I think the idea that Bay and Toby have put in a little more effort into the whole signing thing is in part the idea that young people tend to learn new languages faster, and they both have more interaction with both Daphne and especially Emmett than the other two. Bay has clearly done a lot better than all of them though, which can certainly be attributed to her relationship with Emmett. But John? I honestly had overlooked that until now, and you're right. Maybe it's because Daphne seemes to be using hearing aids now and he doesn't see the point? Still, no excuse.
I am not sure why Regina signs more slowly. Perhaps that is even realistic? Considering that signing is not her "first" language. (I use quotations because I know there are some technicalities to think about with the others, but ASL should probably be considered their "first" language.)
