I don't think my review for this one is going to be as lengthy as the last one, so that's good news for you guys!
WELL IT'S GOOD TO HAVE GOALS, RIGHT?

→ NOW FOR SOMETHING COMPLETELY DIFFERENT: I really enjoyed Mitch's storyline this episode. I kind of go back and forth with her. The storyline with the hitchhiker was good as well. But this was almost better. I was a little disappointed she walked away not telling David what happened to Rosie. I can understand why she did it, but what can I say I love drama and I wanted to see some waterworks. I was so proud of Stan for basically telling her, in no uncertain terms, that his priorities lie with his children now. I get that Mitch needs to do what she needs to do, and I think Stan understands that as well. But somebody's got to take care of those boys. (Saying that, I feel like Mitch will be back in their lives soon enough.)

→ Speaking of Stan, the stuff with him and the boys was heartbreaking this episode. I have always liked their story and I definitely like it more when they're focusing on the family. They definitely needed something to happen to kind of jolt Stan out of the possibility of losing himself in the way Mitch has, especially now that Terry is gone.

→ Let's talk about Gwen and the whole "she's probably pregnant" and "oh, by the way, the mayor took advantage of her when she was 14 and if you don't think that's gross enough already, her dad condoned it" etc. I mean... what? It just seems like such a disservice to her character. She's a smart, driven, powerful woman and now all of this thrown at her in the span of two episodes? No. NO. I don't even know what to think of that.

→ Linden and Holder were pretty much perfection in this episode but that is truly nothing new. Him worrying about where she's staying, her breaking down about Jack as soon as she drops him off, sleeping in her car, him pretty much following her blindly even though he's clearly uncertain as to how far she's willing to go. The scene in Gil's apartment? Wow. He is so sure of himself and it is just that much more compelling because we've seen just how vulnerable his character really is and how hard it must be to realize that this person with whom he's put his trust has betrayed him, used him even. (And maybe I'm just overly worried, but I'm really hoping Holder got his paychecks from him!) And then to have a scene like this? Perfect. I just about died during the conversation in the storage locker though. When Holder tells her that she can talk to him and that he's there for her. And her reaction. And then "let's change the subject because this all too much" and "Yes, boss." And yeah. I died. DIED. And then there's him chasing her down trying to stop her from going into the casino and!!! Yeah okay. I am clearly over-invested in their relationship and how much they mean to each other. It's like crack to me.

→ This gets its own bullet. Holder in the casino causing a scene? Sayonara, Hiawatha? ALL OF THAT? He is my hero. Truly. After what happened to him to go in there and fearlessly just basically say "FUCK YOU" to their faces? All in the name of helping Sarah slip by unnoticed? Best partner ever, first of all. And NERVES OF STEEL, second of all. I loved every second of it. I gotta say I feel like Joel Kinnaman deserves all the awards for his work as Holder.

→ THAT DAMN ELEVATOR. It's a death trap. DO NOT GET ON IT, PEOPLE!

→ Rosie, Rosie, Rosie. The more I learn about you, the more I truly like you. And after last season I never thought I'd say that. She came up for the view. To say goodbye. As weird as it seems, I have to say that sounds just like Rosie. We never really "met" her character, but I feel like we know so much about her that this kind of thing just clicks. That's Rosie alright. She would totally do something like that.

→ I loved the whole idea of Holder being on the phone with Linden, hearing the same background noises from Rosie's call, the generator and then the sliding door. It created this ominous feeling that you just knew something terrible was going to happen. (Well, I knew that from the moment she stepped on the elevator.) And of course it did. And WHAT DOES IT ALL MEAN?!?! Was that supposed to be the mayor's key card? I have a hard time believing he killed Rosie himself. But honestly the only thing I really care about right now is Sarah.

SPOILERS FOR THE PROMO BELOW PROCEED WITH CAUTION...

→ So the promo shows Sarah alive and well but back in the psych ward perhaps? I kind of love how the roles are reversed. It was Sarah having to go to bat for Stephen in the last episode, convince Carlson to head up the search party. Now it's going to be him convincing them that Sarah's not crazy. (To be honest, I don't know how far he's going to get in that endeavor.) But it looks like he's going to have to take the helm which I feel like is going to be a huge leap of faith on his part. I mean, he's seen mostly everything that she's seen. They've been in this together, but it's Sarah who's driving the vehicle for the most part. (And purposeful symbolism or not, that's been true in a literal sense for most of the investigation.) So him doing this when she's not able to is huge and is an awesome shift for the show to take, even if for only one episode.

I feel like like they've really done a magnificent job this season of having the Rosie plotline intersect with the evolution of the Holder and Linden relationship. Both of these stories are driving the direction of the show and often in ways that parallel each other. (And, let me remove my shipper goggles for a minute, that would be true even if I didn't ship them.) I am just sad that there's only four more episodes of this season.

I can't believe how near the end of the season it is already. This episode was SO excellent from a Holder PoV - I adored the part in the casino where he was basically being all things epic. I'm pretty intrigued to see how they're going to go from Linden in the casino to Linden in what I thought was a jail cell. But I like your idea of it being a psych ward too. It's not your fault you ship it - they're making you do it!

I also can't believe what they're doing to Gwen. How would she keep quiet about that kind of crap? I don't believe it.

I know it's going to be so soon and then I am going to be as depressed as hell! But I'm sure it's going to be amazing so it'll be bitter sweet. I can only hope that the ratings pick up and they get a 3rd season. But that still feels like wishful thinking. (Please AMC? PLEASE?!?)

I guess I thought she was wearing some kind of hospital garb but it looks like maybe it's just a t-shirt. It would make sense if they put her back into the psych ward though, because of her history. POOR LINDEN. She's lost everything. UGH.

They really ARE. They are like, FORCING me to ship it. Actually, if I really think about it I feel like the creator has gone to great lengths to make us try to see their relationship as platonic as possible. Putting that shelf between them when Holder tells her he's there for her always, having the camera outside of the car when Linden apologizes and Holder forgives her? I think they know that if they framed it more intimately the audience would probably go berserk. Because there is SO MUCH between these characters and they have such great chemistry despite them trying to TONE IT DOWN like crazy. But god damn it, I ship it regardless, haha.

UGH GWEN. I just don't get it.

You're so right on this. That whole scene I just...ugh...no words. I love that they stayed on the phone together through the whole thing. She wanted him there with her, even if he couldn't be. I think she knew deep down that she was in a bad spot and needed him to hear everything she was going through. At the same time she seemed frightened, and he was there to calm her on the other end. HOWEVER...*flail* I was all like "put the damned phone down!!!!" when she was fumbling for the ID/keycard. She's so tiny HOW COULD SHE NOT REACH IT?!?!

Kinnaman hit it out of the park this episode. Big time. What a stud.

Re: the promo
It looked/sounded like she was in a jail holding cell - that she got locked up for breaking/entering, maybe? And did Holder say something about "they are trying to frame her"?

I know I know! You're so right. He was there with her because he couldn't be, not only because he sticks out like a sore thumb but because he's already so hurt that it would have been too dangerous. And ugh. And yes, WHY COULDN'T SHE REACH IT?!?!?!

God damn he was so good. SO GOOD. That scene with Gil kind of gives me the chills. *draws hearts around him*

I'm going to have to re-watch that promo!

Just want to say that's a really beautiful screencap. The show is usually so gray and this cap is flooded with color. Beautiful.

Hehe, okay well this is cheating. As I told DB, that image isn't from a cap. It's from this image (http://media.amctv.com/photo-gallery/the-killing-season-2-episode-gallery/episode-9-stephen.jpg) from the AMC website. *shrug* My skills are only so-so, you see? LOL.

Piffle! It's still ten times better than I've done, and absolutely gorgeous! You have talent. Deal with it, sweetie. :P
This show is so pretty, but very difficult to colour, and lighten.

Thank you! I wish I could say I have mad skills and made an actual screen cap look that good, but truthfully it's this image (http://media.amctv.com/photo-gallery/the-killing-season-2-episode-gallery/episode-9-stephen.jpg) from the AMC website.

Forever in love with these two.

Ughh, Linden looking out at the city and seeing what Rosie saw--made me like Rosie a whole lot too. Just seeing how much Linden has become so attached to this case and Rosie makes us so much apart of it too.

As soon as I saw the promo of the next episode with Linden in prison? I was like YES--Holder episode. Let's see how he fairs if he has to do it all himself. Let's see how far he'll go for Linden and this case.
