Date: 2013-05-15 03:57 am (UTC)I had to back away FAST before I engaged in SMASHING SOME HEADS TOGETHER and *)&OUHERNKYIJHNIUYUIB(&HJ KEYSMASH.
I kinda want to prohibit these people from watching the new season when it starts on the grounds that they CLEARLY HAVE NO CLUE and should not be allowed to watch/comment on things that are too awesome for them to grasp. So much whinging about the slow build up and the futility of the end result and the fact that Ames et al., got away in the end and just, OMG. DON'T YOU SEE?? THAT WAS THE WHOLE FREAKING POINT!!!!!!
THE FUTILITY WAS THE POINT AND IT WAS HAUNTING AND PERFECT AND GO AWAY WITH YOUR INCORRECT OPINIONS, OKAY?
Sometimes I hate the internet.

Date: 2013-05-14 11:23 pm (UTC)Sometimes the only salvation Stephen finds in his meetings is in the form of the lukewarm crap coffee in a paper cup. He holds it in both hands, between his knees, and he listens to the same sob-story he’s heard a thousand times in this church basement. He knows it’s cynical of him, but they all hit the same note. Powerless, I was powerless…
He zones out for a while, finishing the dregs of his coffee but not getting up for more. It would just draw attention to himself and how much his hands are shaking. When he’s asked if he wants to share he just shakes his head. He ain’t got any wisdom for these people. Despite the tattoo on his neck and all the times he’s offered himself up to God at rock bottom, begging and praying for help, the only one that can help him is himself.
He’s walked this path before, it’s frustrating and it’s hard as hell. Stephen has lost count of the amount of times he’s had to start over on his stepwork. But he’s been clean for a while, he can pride himself on that, even if his head’s still all sorts of fucked up.
He looks up when the group leader quotes step six: we were entirely ready to have God remove all these defects of character. Stephen mutters to himself, “Ain’t nobody gonna remove all these defects, holmes.”
The girl next to him snickers and the leader looks like he’s about to give Stephen some speech about how he knows how much Stephen’s hurting, how he’s been there, how he can’t give up.
He hears his name called after him when he gets up and leaves the circle, chucking his empty cup in the trash on his way out. Under the streetlamp outside, he ducks his head and lights a cigarette. A little while later, the girl who had laughed comes out to join him, asks him for a light.
“You wanna do a bump?” she asks, and he can see it in her eyes how strung out she is. She looks on the outside how he feels on the inside.
Stephen blows out smoke, slow and deliberate. “Nah. Startin’ a new job tomorrow.”
He knows she’ll do it anyway, with or without him, so he doesn’t feed her any bullshit lines. He just turns and walks away.

Date: 2013-05-15 04:17 am (UTC)Alexi’s fingers, threaded loosely through hers, feel uncomfortably cold as she runs her thumb absently across the palm of his hand. He twists in his seat ‘til his back is pressed against the too-smudged glass behind him and slowly grins at her, a shy smile that takes a moment to fully develop into something real, something she doesn’t have to question.
“What?” she asks, even though she already knows the answer.
He shakes his head, tilts it sideways into the back of the bus seat they’re sharing and drops his gaze to where their hands are locked together on his thigh.
“Your parents are gonna be so pissed,” he says finally, and it’s little more than a repeat of a conversation they’ve already had.
Already tried to have.
A thousand times over.
“Probably,” she agrees. Rinse and repeat as Washington gives way to Oregon and something inside her shifts.
“Do you care?”
She counts out several beats before she answers, tries to conjure up the truth from where it sits, tangled, between too-many-to-count layers of betrayal and hurt and fierce, inexplicable devotion. “Sometimes,” she finally concedes. “Sometimes not.”
And that’s about as close to ‘sure’ as she gets about anything these days. The unsteady roil of insecurity and second-guessing, as familiar to her as breathing.
Alexi nods as though he gets it, as though he sees all the way through those three words and gets her, but she’s no-where near convinced that he does. Not really.
At least, not yet.
