TVD Season 4 Finale

I started writing a short comment at a TVD comm and it turned into a really long comment and I thought I might as well just post it here instead. So here are my completely incoherent thoughts:
Not to be a Pollyanna but, I liked it.
→ I like giving Katherine the cure because to me this reads as; MOAR KATHERINE. Which I am always down with. It'll be interesting to see how they play it. I don't want her to be a different person entirely, but obviously something is going to have to change for her so that she doesn't just immediately go out and get someone to turn her back right away. I didn't quite believe that she would kill Elena because she never got to have her own high school graduation, etc. etc. and was jealous? I mean, c'mon. This is Katherine we're talking about. Plus its not like Elena's life had been roses lately. Also, it kind of kills me that Katherine is going to be turning human while Stefan is going to be at the bottom of a quarry. I love their relationship and I feel like I would have liked to see him react to this and also how the two would play off each other after the change. I guess we may eventually see that. But not right away. Which is a bummer.
→ I am distraught about Stefan being in that quarry, mostly because I was hoping to write a bunch of "So, my BFF Lexi thinks yer cute, Let's make out." Stefan/Caroline fic. Only with a ton more angst. See, I ask for more angst, and what do I get? ANGEL SEASON 3 finale levels of angst. I mean okay. I'm not only distraught because it ruins my fic plans. (Well, fic that doesn't require canon-defying gymnastics.) I am also distraught because STEFAN! Moving past my distress, I really like the idea of the whole shadow self and the whole doppelganger thing in this particular case. I mean, at least they explained this incarnation of it. (Whereas the Tatia/Katerina/Elena thing has never really been explained, has it?) I am not really looking forward to Silas stealing Stefan's identity though. It gets super squicky for me when people don't know who they're really dealing with. (Same when Klaus was switched with Tyler's body.)
→ I basically love Rebekah and Matt in equal amounts but in vastly differing ways so their storyline doesn't bother me. In fact, because she has clearly always liked him and it isn't some new development, it really works for me. And I actually think they have chemistry. Let them traipse around the world for the summer. We know Bex is going to be on The Originals so their coupling will surely be short-lived. Matt hasn't been happy in a while. Let him have his fun.
→ Also, I like Jeremy being back. This is not just because I ship him with everyone but also because I just need Elena to have somebody. I can't wait for the Jeremy/Matt reunion. Kind of sorry Matt was too busy this episode to get to see him.
→ Bonnie being dead feels a little false to me. Left unfinished. (Much like Jeremy's death did earlier this season.) I'll only believe it's "for real" when we're several episodes into season 5. And maybe not even then.
→ I've heard a bunch of crap about Trevino maybe not returning to the show... at least not for a long while. So that whole Klaus letting Tyler of the hook thing makes me wonder if maybe those reports were slightly exaggerated? Either that or something else is going to go wrong. It seems ridiculous to me to bring a character back just to kill him off, so I wonder what else could happen. There's no way that Tyler would choose to stay gone if he has Klaus' blessing. Also, speaking of Klaus, he really did win me over in that conversation with Caroline. I legit didn't think I shipped it all. But now... kinda... maybe I do. (Trying to remind myself there's a spin-off to consider here.)

Date: 2013-05-17 03:49 am (UTC)Thank you for bringing up the whole "just get turned back into a vamp" thing, because I can't really see what the big deal is about the human cure! I really can't. I mean, Damon chose death over being human for 24 hours (or whatever) before Elena/Stefan/Caroline could turn him back into a vamp? REALLY?? My only thought on this is, we're not supposed to have thoughts on this! Haha! Think about it too hard and it makes ZERO sense.
Admittedly, it might be harder for Kat to find someone willing to turn her back (incidentally, I think Stefan probably would have done it). BUT STILL...
Yeah.
Matt is a douche and I really wanna open Rebekah's eyes to him, holy cow. So yeah, not so on-board that ship as you!
I mostly thought this episode was super unintentionally cracky though. Oops? (probably not helped by the fact that I've now watched a grand total of four episodes this season??)
Also, when they do ghost storylines, it's always super jarring to me that Jenna is never around. Or Elena's parents. I kinda don't buy that.

Date: 2013-05-17 04:00 am (UTC)Yeah you're right. Some stuff we're just not supposed to think about too much. I actually wouldn't be surprised if Katherine actually did try to get someone to turn her, but for whatever reason couldn't for a short time and then something happens in that timeframe to make her want to stay human? I don't know. But you know she's gonna be a vampire again someday. LOL. I'll be mad if she's like "You know what, I think I am going to go to college... far away" and just leaves lol. THEY BETTER NOT DO THAT.

Date: 2013-05-17 04:12 am (UTC)I'll be mad if she's like "You know what, I think I am going to go to college... far away" and just leaves lol. BUT THEN SHE COULD FINALLY GRADUATE, YOU KNOW???!! Though, she'd have to do high school first because she wouldn't be able to compel anyone to let her in without whatever the US version of the High School Certificate is!
KAT IN HIGH-SCHOOL! HEEEEEEEEE!
Oh, god. I think I'm drunk.

Date: 2013-05-18 05:48 pm (UTC)Okay but if she actually LEAVES THE SHOW to do those things I will be pissed. Doing them on camera and in Mystic Falls would be a bonus!
Hahaha. SLEEP IT OFF.

Date: 2013-05-18 05:33 pm (UTC)But then I didn't even factor Katherine in at all because she's just a guest character at the absolute most. (And every once in a while she only puts in a tiny cameo!) I assumed she wasn't even in the running.

Date: 2013-05-17 08:54 am (UTC)I wondered if there might be a twist next season where it turns out that the cure doesn't just turn a vampire back to human, but make them immune to vampirism in general. Because otherwise, I don't see why Katherine wouldn't just call Elijah and have him turn her back.
I am not really looking forward to Silas stealing Stefan's identity though. It gets super squicky for me when people don't know who they're really dealing with.
I hate those kinds of storylines, too. What's funny in this case is that I would think Elena, Damon, and Caroline would all be in prime positions to recognize a Stefan imposter. Like, I think Silas!Stefan would be unveiled as a fraud more quickly than most of the other characters if they were in that position. Although Damon did talk to Silas as Stefan a few episodes back and not realize his mistake until Silas cued him in and the writers will probably use the triangle as the reason for D/E writing off any weird vibes they'll get from "Stefan". So, my money's on Caroline to be the one who first realizes it's not him.
We know Bex is going to be on The Originals so their coupling will surely be short-lived.
Oh, huh, from the way it was being written, I was assuming Matt would be heading to New Orleans, too. Is the actor sticking with Vampire Diaries then instead of joining the spin-off?
Bonnie being dead feels a little false to me. Left unfinished. (Much like Jeremy's death did earlier this season.) I'll only believe it's "for real" when we're several episodes into season 5. And maybe not even then.
I don't think she's dead dead either. I bet we'll have a couple episodes of her talking to Jer as a ghost before something supernatural happens, allowing her to return to the living.

Date: 2013-05-18 05:38 pm (UTC)I really really hope they don't use this for the triangle. For me the triangle is done. I am so tired of it I don't even know where to begin. Notice my review contained nothing about it. I honestly just pretend it doesn't exist anymore.
Yeah I have a feeling it may be Caroline who guesses first.
I didn't think of it that way. It sounded like they were going to go off for the summer together and then back to reality for Matt. I mean obviously they're going to have to wrap up that storyline, but based on the "hey remember I own the Lockwood mansion now" reminder and "what happens on the road stays on the road" stuff I felt like he was definitely coming back to mystic falls
Yeah I honestly feel like Kat has the most reason to leave this show of anyone just because of her dueling careers. But I have a suspicion that she's not dead for good. Or at least not gone for good yet.

Date: 2013-05-17 09:33 am (UTC)I was sort of expecting the Steroline stuff to be a red herring, so I'm not that surprised that they're not going through with it, at least not immediately, unless they do Caroline/Silas. I think in general it could be an interesting plot, though I'm guessing it will ultimately just benefit the triangle in some way (which I don't for a minute believe is resolved).

Date: 2013-05-18 05:40 pm (UTC)I actually feel pretty strongly, despite the whole "Tyler can come back" thing, that Caroline and Stefan will be hooking up in some capacity next season. I just hope it's not fucking Silas in Stefan's stead. I will be livid.
Triangle? What triangle?

Date: 2013-05-17 09:46 am (UTC)The Bonnie thing is extremely confusing. Kat Graham is said to still be a regular in season 5 so unless they vastly change the rules when it comes to ghosts, I imagine she'll be brought back not too long into the season. It'll also be interesting to see how the others deal without a witch, as it seems like Bonnie lost her powers once the veil was closed.
I like Jeremy being back (his death felt so pointless and I hated it) and I kinda like Katherine getting the cure. I would've preferred Stefan to get the cure simply because he actually wanted it AND it would've change up the triangle dynamics but Katherine getting it was better than most of the other options. I'm also betting there's some catch where once cured, the person can't be turned again. Otherwise there's no real point in the cure, you know?
I love Rebekah and I didn't mind her with Matt, mostly because she seems to really like him and I like seeing her happy.
Not sure about Tyler. I heard Trevino wouldn't be back for a while but then he popped up in the prom episode so I don't know how much one can trust those rumors. If he isn't coming back, I don't see how they'd have any other choice but to kill him. As you said, Tyler wouldn't stay away once Klaus gave him the okay to return.

Date: 2013-05-18 05:43 pm (UTC)I did notice that a lot of this stuff was revisted from past finales. But I also felt like those things were taking a back-burner in this ep and so it wasn't quite as similar as before. I noticed, but didn't find it distracting at least.
Oh GOD.
I'm genuinely worried about what's going to happen when's he's finally rescued, given his blood-lust issues.
My heart sank into my stomach when you said this. (But then I just imagined Caroline helping him through that, and it rose a bit after that.)
Yeah I have no idea what's going on with Kat Graham and Bonnie and this show. We'll see I guess.

Date: 2013-05-21 02:29 am (UTC)Im kind of...sad? about Rebekah and Matt's relationship. But who knows, maybe there will be some crossovers?
I read that Julie has confirmed that Michael Trevino is coming back next season but she was elusive as to when and or how many episodes he's going to be in.
