an spn promo and normally I don't [ever] watch them, but this one I did. Am I the only one who thought
it was pretty hilarious seeing two able-bodied white dudes set fire to a black guy in a wheelchair? Wow, does it get more symbolic than that?
Former show, do you never learn? I realize race discussions are
not very cool right now but I couldn't help pointing it out. I heard Jo might be back and thought I might tune in for one episode. But now I'm thinking, nah, I'll just skip it.
Also, I forgot how much I hate Castiel. (Not him exactly, cause I've never even seen a single minute of the last season, just the very idea of him pisses me off.)I was going to do that music meme, and started to type it all out and everything, but I think I have wasted enough of your time for today. Thanks.

Date: 2009-08-22 01:23 pm (UTC)Yeah I obviously don't know what's going on with the show and whether they've cleaned up their act, but it was the symbolism that got me. I just had to *facepalm*

Date: 2009-08-22 05:41 am (UTC)Yeah that part in the promo is not very cool. I know I said in my post that I liked that part but I didn't mean I liked the fact that they're setting the poor man on fire. Cuz yeah that's definitely not buddies. A very large number of things wrong with it.

Date: 2009-08-22 01:28 pm (UTC)Yeah I dunno it was kind of the first thing I noticed. Well actually the first thing I noticed was the wheelchair after I realized what was going on with the match. They're kind of always lighting things on fire in that show. But not usually the disabled.
So I think that since you've made so many Dr. George references you have to catch up with The Colony now. It's only fair.

Date: 2009-08-22 01:40 pm (UTC)Season three was an abomination. For various reasons. One being that it just sucked. And another being that there were a lot racism/sexism issues that kind of reached an all time high. (Or low, is probably a better way of putting it.) Which is saying a lot considering this show. People were pissed. Die hards were pissed. Angry, critical, etc. Then the other half of folks thought everyone was being too critical and were upset at them for harshing squees and whatnot.
I guess I was kind of in the middle. I wasn't super angry. It's Supernatural, please. But I was on board. It was kind of undeniable. So while I saw it as an issue/problem/annoying thing about the show. I wasn't about to get out the pitch forks. I was beyond caring because I was just mad at how bad the show sucked that season. Nevermind all the other stuff. And the finale was the worst. I mean, just horrid. So I said "never again" and gave it up.
And then when S4 comes out, everyone goes ga-ga over this new regular character they've added. A young, white, male. And somehow everyone is lulled into loving the show again. How funny. You didn't hear anymore discussion about race and gender. Nobody cared because Castiel was too shiny and new and "hot." And that? I dunno it infuriated me.
And it doesn't surprise me that you wouldn't be interested in this show at all. You actually like and value female characters.

Date: 2009-08-22 12:07 pm (UTC)I think since I'm a big old happy-go-lucky loon who's as bubbly as a washing machine full of a box of detergent I'm too gleeful to see anything bad. But also JO!!!! I'm just excited she's coming back at all. Getting to be a badass hunter. This promo is pretty fucking epic and I've seen it about 3847190 times and I love it and it looks like an amazing apocalypse is going down. Because with the way S4 ended, this is everything I was expecting and more in just 75 seconds.
AND THE SONG. ASFJKLAKSGF:F.

Date: 2009-08-22 01:57 pm (UTC)I don't really care what they were doing. The imagery itself is symbolic. But I'm not watching this show, so I'm not really commenting on anything more than that. Their intentions, the narrative, etc. I can't because I don't know because I haven't watched since season three.
I was shocked (and really happy) to hear Jo was coming back. Which is the whole reason I didn't avoid watching that promo when Dayln posted it. But nothing in it made me want to watch this show again, sorry to say.
