I'm going to do this because I've been putting it off.

Show reactions! What has KC been watching this season? I have briefly touched on it this year but I have kind of sucked at the whole actual writing of posts about stuff. I'm going to make these as brief and non-spoilery as possible. I may have to cut for The Vampire Diaries. It is just that good.

Modern Family
General reaction I have every episode: Yay! Dunphy-Delgado-Pritchett-Mitchells!

Community
Season two is improving but I'm still not sure where I stand on it as a whole. It is always entertaining though. I'd like to stab fandom with a spork -- and that includes all sides of the great ship debate. I regret writing it -- it's like guilt by association -- but whatever. Some things cannot be undone.

Being Human [US]
Yeah, I didn't watch past the pilot. Trashed it.

Friday Night Lights
I am all caught up. I think I have finally come to terms with losing over half the main cast. I love Becky, Vince, and Jess. Luke is pretty cute too. I am beyond disappointed that it's ending but it really is time, I think. It has always been so under-appreciated but is still one of the most compelling, "real life", well-produced shows ever. I'll stand by that to the end.

Grey's Anatomy
I'm entertained. I like April -- much to the chagrin of probably everyone else who watches the show. That is how I roll apparently. Nothing special but a TV constant that I can depend on week-to-week.

Fringe
Have I mentioned I quit this show? I did. Sorry my fellow fangirls. I had to call it a day.

Off the Map
Again, as with Grey's, it's entertaining. I am all caught up and have enjoyed everything so far. I love Caroline Dhavernas and Zach Gilford so they brought me to the table, and my favorite characters thus far are Ryan and Charlie. I told [livejournal.com profile] hesperia that right now it's like a skeleton of a show. I'm waiting for the body to be filled in. (We're talking sketch artists, not corpses.) But I'm willing to wait. And even if it doesn't it's decent fair with pretty scenery.

The Middle
Not a regular watcher, but I find it hilarious.

Being Human [UK]
Haven't seen the last two eps but I'm pumped about season three. Hope it lives up to it. And if it doesn't? There's always Mitchell.

Big Love
Oh, Hendricksons. The show is as wacky and yet strangely compelling as always. Alby's still crazy. Bill's still kind of a douche. And I'm just hoping that they all get to take a really long nap by the end of the season. Cause goodness knows they deserve it.

Life Unexpected
I am sad that it is over and I think if it had a real chance it could have become one of my favorite things ever. They were going through a second-year slump but I always enjoyed it. Lux was actually my least favorite character. She didn't deserve all those super-nice people. Tasha included. (Ksenia!)

Parenthood
The show I watch about the mundanities of familial life and the impossibly close liberal family. Everybody's got their good traits and their bad traits and I find myself being really compelled by that fact. It's just like life. And the script is really amazing. One of the best-written shows on TV, even if it's not about anything too terribly exciting. I catch this one every week.

The Vampire Diaries
I love Caroline Forbes. And how is Stefan Salvatore almost perfect in every conceivable way? Plus, the pacing and the WTF-ery, and how I actually think the shows canon "otp" is adorable beyond belief? It defies the laws of my fandom gravity, this show. But I agree with [livejournal.com profile] gigglemonster about Damon's little whine-fest in the bathtub last episode. What was that shit? I just. I don't even understand how I'm supposed to take this guy seriously.

And also, poor Tyler was just a victim of circumstance in this last episode. Basically he got pissed, sulked around a bit, was held captive by Stefan and irritated to death, and then he hesitated twice -- but it's not like he could have stopped what happened to her either way -- and then he apologized. I am not quite sure what to read into his little visit to the wolves afterward, but I'm sure he's still on team mystic falls. I just think we should all cut him some slack.

What is Uncle Dad up to anyway?

Plus! Elena's ponytail was awesome! Bottom line? This show is awesome.

I feel like I'm leaving something out, which hardly seems possible. I'll get back to you.

Hahaha YES! Seriously! And I kind of love that about this show. I will never not be shocked at just how much I love this damn show.

And agreed on all the other things you have to say about all the other shows [that I watch]

Yeah. Its ascent from awful to awesome is truly remarkable.

I should be totally bored by Stefan/Elena -- and yet I'm not! That doesn't mean I want to write fic about them, but still, lol.

I love Caroline so much. Season One she was one of my least favorites but since she's turned vamp, I can't get enough of her. She is truly awesome. And I agree, Tyler does need to be cut some slack. And I do think he's still on Team Caroline, even if he doesn't really know it yet.

I really enjoyed her last season actually. At some point it turned for me -- I'm not sure when but it was most definitely before she herself "turned." Haha. It may have been her relationship with Matt.

I think for a while Bonnie was the least interesting, but I wouldn't say that anymore.

He's totally still on Team Caroline. I can't wait to watch it all unfold.

I started watching Friday Night Lights. It's a good show, can't say I'm entirely hooked on it or obsessed but I'm definitely going to keep watching.

It really is very good! I would recommend you keep watching. If for no other reason than to just to be able to see how this unique show unfolds. It's definitely filmed, produced, and written in a way that no other show ever has been as far as I know.

Modern Family remains the one show that never disappoints me and usually ends up giving me a warm, fuzzy feeling. I can't say enough good things about the way that show is written. ♥

Yes, this. It totally does. It bridges the gap between straight comedy and heartwarming really well. I think there are really endless ways they can get characters to connect and have some sort of hilarity come out of it. It's just so good.

I may have to start watching Big Love. Well, start from the first episode. It sounds intriguing. :D

I have the first two seasons on DVD if you need to borrow. This show has a quality about it that I just can't put my finger on. I think doing a DVD marathon, would be an awesome way to watch that show. Although possibly confusing because of so many characters. (Big love, big families.) I think you would LOVE all of the varied female characters.

I'm bored by Off The Map. I love Grey's Anatomy again but I still haven't forgiven it (and Shonda Rimes) for destroying Izzie & George (and not just by creating Gizzie).

Community was awesome. I love Modern Warfare and all the big production eps but the latest one was so simple yet it was amazing.

Being Human UK is blowing my mind at the moment. I kinda was meh about season 2 but OMG, season 3 is awesome. And Russell Tovey's faaaaaaaaace!

I'm not too bored by it but it definitely lacks a bit of spark or punch. I am hoping it gets better. I really want it to be good! Haha. I think that is just the beginning of the list of Shonda Rimes crimes.

When we're talking community, I think sometimes those heavily themed episodes miss the mark with me unfortunately. The last one was really cool though. I love that they are often "stuck" in a situation (class project, dance, the D&D thing, the paint ball game, etc.) and it's like "okay, if we can just get through this, then we can all move on." Which is KIND OF a metaphor for college, lol. I know I'm looking way too deeply into it. But you know that Abed would agree.

I still need to catch up on Being Human.

We still adore Community - I wonder if it helps that we're aren't involved in fandom? We're Team Annie, but not to any point of complaining about other possibilities.

I've waxed and waned on my opinions of Fringe since the very beginning. I think they have just enough going on to leave me mildly curious for each new episode... but, truthfully, it could disappear and I wouldn't miss it. Though I did enjoy the early arc with alternating stories of Olivia and Faux-livia.

We LOVE The Middle, and it's quite possible that it's both because it takes place in our region and because we've grown up in and around that sort of family environment. It's sort of a nostalgia thing with lots of laughs. :D

Being Human... holding out for the UK series to air the next season on BBC America and still vaguely interested in the US show. Main grievance is how they've changed the werewolf character: instead of being neurotic and sort of meek, he's a generic troubled soul cliche.

The Hendricksons are just a boatload of crazy this final season, yeah?!

I miss LUX! It was such a cute, fun show! :(

The delivery of dialogue in Parenthood is phenomenal! It's so impressive the way they have these overlapping conversations where you can't always make out what everyone is saying... but it's so real! So fun!

When Stefan showed up at Caroline's door (before the other girls poked around the corner and surprised her with the slumber party) I so thought of you and your pairing! They were totally having eye sex! And the girls ruined it! By being sweet and making Caroline cry... so I guess it was okay. But the bathtub scene with Damon? Yeah, not okay. Lame.

I would say I'm team Annie -- but I actually just love Annie. I quite like her with Troy as well. (Or Abed, but who's counting?) I am not really involved in the fandom. I did write one fic but it was for a fic exchange so it wasn't really something I would have written on my own. I know people who are in the fandom and the attitude coming from both sides is just so... condescending and degrading, lol. With both of them claiming to be the more civil then the other, but really, none of them are. It just makes me sad. And then after that just plain old irritated.

I don't find myself missing it at all. It was something that I really fell in love with and then rapidly fell out of love with it. I still hold a fondness for the show but I have no desire to watch any more of it. Unfortunately. I think by the time Faux-livia came around I was already checking out. Just waiting for the bell boy to get my bags. I probably would have been more riveted if I hadn't paid my bill already.

The Middle is so great. It totally reminds me of Roseanne in that working-class we're-all-sort-of-awkward way. I really need to go back and marathon it or something.

Yeah I think that George's one saving grace is his goofy meekness. Without that, I'm not sure how much I'd like him! Haha. So the US version should have tried to keep it along those lines.

The Hendricksons are always a boat load of crazy! Haha. I really miss Ana. I wish her character had more to do. But I'm guessing we won't see her again? I don't know. Loved her. She's actually my favorite character on that show.

Lux was cute! And Anya! (Okay, I do realize that's not her real name.)

Oh oh! I totally know what you mean about the dialogue on Parenthood! It's one of the things I try to explain to people, and how it's SO GREAT, but it just makes it sound confusing. Why would you want to watch a show where you can't understand what the people are saying? Haha. But no! That's what's perfect about it!

Oh I know! I heart them so much! *smishes them* Damn Elena and her bouncy ponytail!

*edited like 10 hours later to correct my mistake -- I meant to type "working-class" not "middle-class"

Goodness! We have no shows in common! I just started season 2 of Fringe and it's well . . . Fringe.

Why did you break up with it?

We'll always have Misfits!

Date: 2011-02-07 02:05 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] crickets.livejournal.com
Yes, I also watch The Glades, Misfits, Lost Girl, Entourage, True Blood (sorta), and probably a couple of other things that are out of season.

My reasons for breaking up with Fringe are complicated, lol. I guess a huge chunk of it is that I was disappointed with some of the outcomes of certain storylines that I'd been waiting and hoping for. They missed the mark for me. It was like constantly waiting for "the other shoe to drop" and when it finally does it's underwhelming and not even half as good as I expected. It just seemed like a running theme with this show. And in some ways it's a lot like Lost that way.

Plus I started to find Olivia boring -- whereas previously I loved her. And I missed Charlie. And I was really disappointed at Walter's regression as a character. And Astrid's complete and utter lack of anything to do but babysit a constantly regressing Walter. She's an FBI agent, not a wetnurse! And yeah, a myriad of things.

Those are all excellent reasons! I am struggling through season 2 which is no surprise. I'm only on ep 4. But I do love Walter. :-)

Olivia is generally boring to me. I only seem to perk up with her when she has special abilities like super hearing or turning off lights with her mind. That's cool. But that only happens like every eight episodes. But I watch just so I at least can talk about the show. I don't expect Fringe to hit the mark with me.

I'll miss Charlie. :-( And I don't really get why Astrid doesn't quit. In the porn battle, I saw a Peter/Astrid fic which I mistakenly thought was Walter/Astrid. No, I don't ship them but I think my mind just searches for a reason she'd stay. And since I love Walter more than Peter . . .

Yup. A myriad.

My deep dark (okay, not really) fandom secret: Parenthood may be my favorite show currently airing on television. But I don't feel the need to be particularly fannish about it...I just adore it and watch it and squee with my mom. But like you said, it's like real life and I watch so many shows about monsters and spies and what have you, Parenthood is like a breath of fresh air.

BTW, did I mention that I kind of love Stefan now? Cause he totally won me over. Damon is ridiculous and the show has effectively killed my ability to ship him with anyone besides Alaric, but I still enjoy watching Ian be a ham. Shallowness, I have it.

Being Human (UK, of course) is still awesome. But I wouldn't advise watching episode three while eating. ;)

Wee! Parenthood! I am so glad that some other people on my flist watch this show! I wish there was a way to be fannish about it. The only way I can think is to make a vid and like that's ever going to happen. Haha. But yes, excellent television!

OH MY GOSH! STEFAN! How can a person not love him? HOW? He has a dead heart of gold! It doesn't beat, but it's so sweet! (I promise I'll stop rhyming in a minute.) I'm so glad you came around to him. Write me fic? lol.

Okay, ew. Now I'm worried about episode three.
