  • So I got a new layout for the first time in years. I am not sure how I feel about it but that is probably just anxiety because I haven't changed my layout (except for colors) literally in years. I also feel like the transparent backgrounds makes things load slower so I might just switch back anyway. But we'll see.

  • Don't forget, I've got FIC! and a VID! up for grabs at [livejournal.com profile] help_japan. I think you still have until the 26th to offer your talents or bid on the talents of others.

  • I watched "How Do You Know?" tonight with Paul Rudd and Reese Witherspoon. I'm not sure how I felt about it. It was a romantic comedy, had it's cute moments, but both of the lead characters were so strange, haha. I guess in that way they were perfect for each other. I don't know. I don't usually expect much of these types of movies so I'm able to enjoy them regardless of their possible badness. I definitely had fun watching it. Paul Rudd is cute. That's pretty much it.

  • I'm about halfway done with VMars s3. This re-watch has been super fun. When I watched the show originally I pretty much liked it from start to finish. I didn't have any of the issues that a lot of people seemed to have with seasons two and three. This is my very first re-watch, and I still feel the same. It's just something I enjoy. Bottom line.

  • Writer's block has hit me hard lately. I am working on something which will probably turn out to be a lot longer than what I usually post, but as for writing in general I'm just not having a good time of it for some reason. My goal for this week is to finish something, anything at all, that I actually like. And to post it!

  • Apparently Big Love ended tonight and I'm still about 5 episodes behind or so. Whoops!? I will try to catch up this week so I can read and participate in people's reaction posts as I assume there will be at least a few. It's definitely going to be weird saying goodbye to that crazy family!

MEET KATNISS

So apparently Jennifer Lawrence of Winter's Bone is going to be playing Katniss in The Hunger Games movies. I loved her in WB and I think she'll do a good job. I feel kind of ambiguous on the decision which I can honestly say is a good thing. I didn't really have any hopes for casting but I definitely think I could have been majorly disappointed in their choice and with Jennifer I feel pretty good about it. I won't get excited until we have our first trailer, I can pretty much guarantee you that. I don't have any favorite choices for any of the characters but I am eager to see who plays Gale. I am so cynical about it and I'm almost sure there's no way they'll find someone I'll approve of, haha. I don't even know of any good candidates to suggest. *shrug*

I also have very little on the supposed "whitewashing" of Katniss. Her full-blood sister has blond hair and blue eyes (just like their mother), I don't think there's any crime in casting Jennifer, who can easily "costume up" to fit the role, whatever all that entails. Besides, for all of the fans complaining, where was all the fan art with actresses of color? Yeah -- I didn't see any either.

MEET RACHEL & DARCY

I had no clue that this book was being made into a movie. I just finished reading it a few weeks ago and I found it enjoyable enough. I just saw something in an advertisement I got in my e-mail today and couldn't believe how not-in-the-know I was because apparently it's coming out pretty soon. I had a few issues with the book but overall I found it enjoyable. Apparently there is a sequel, but as it's from Darcy's POV I am hesitant to read it. I'll most likely see the movie anyway. It looks cute. Also, Colin Egglesfield, as Dex, is kind of super adorable. In the trailer anyway, I've never seen him before in anything.

→ I got rid of my new LG Cosmos Touch (returned it, and they even waived that stinkin' restocking fee, woo hoo) It sucked so badly that I would rather just go back to my LG enV2 even thought the front screen doesn't work any more at all -- so I did. I would get a smart phone but I am stuck because I'm under my father's plan and he refuses to allow me to have a data package. Even with me paying for it myself. If I could afford it, I'd just get my own plan but I really can't. I may get an Octane instead. Anybody have any experience with that one?

→ Even though I've had it on my PC for over a month (estimating) I'm going to the theater to see 127 Hours today with a friend. I've been putting it off for some reason. I think I'm afraid I won't like it as much as I want to like it. I don't even think that makes any sense, logically. My brain works in mysterious ways.

→ The Vampire Diaries -- how is it possible that this show is that good? There's no way. I've been compelled. I'm sure of it.

→ Friday Night Lights is really over. This depresses me in ways that don't make sense to me.

I'm going to do this because I've been putting it off.

Show reactions! What has KC been watching this season? I have briefly touched on it this year but I have kind of sucked at the whole actual writing of posts about stuff. I'm going to make these as brief and non-spoilery as possible. I may have to cut for The Vampire Diaries. It is just that good.

Modern Family
General reaction I have every episode: Yay! Dunphy-Delgado-Pritchett-Mitchells!

Community
Season two is improving but I'm still not sure where I stand on it as a whole. It is always entertaining though. I'd like to stab fandom with a spork -- and that includes all sides of the great ship debate. I regret writing it -- it's like guilt by association -- but whatever. Some things cannot be undone.

Being Human [US]
Yeah, I didn't watch past the pilot. Trashed it.

Friday Night Lights
I am all caught up. I think I have finally come to terms with losing over half the main cast. I love Becky, Vince, and Jess. Luke is pretty cute too. I am beyond disappointed that it's ending but it really is time, I think. It has always been so under-appreciated but is still one of the most compelling, "real life", well-produced shows ever. I'll stand by that to the end.

Grey's Anatomy
I'm entertained. I like April -- much to the chagrin of probably everyone else who watches the show. That is how I roll apparently. Nothing special but a TV constant that I can depend on week-to-week.

Fringe
Have I mentioned I quit this show? I did. Sorry my fellow fangirls. I had to call it a day.

Off the Map
Again, as with Grey's, it's entertaining. I am all caught up and have enjoyed everything so far. I love Caroline Dhavernas and Zach Gilford so they brought me to the table, and my favorite characters thus far are Ryan and Charlie. I told [livejournal.com profile] hesperia that right now it's like a skeleton of a show. I'm waiting for the body to be filled in. (We're talking sketch artists, not corpses.) But I'm willing to wait. And even if it doesn't it's decent fair with pretty scenery.

The Middle
Not a regular watcher, but I find it hilarious.

Being Human [UK]
Haven't seen the last two eps but I'm pumped about season three. Hope it lives up to it. And if it doesn't? There's always Mitchell.

Big Love
Oh, Hendricksons. The show is as wacky and yet strangely compelling as always. Alby's still crazy. Bill's still kind of a douche. And I'm just hoping that they all get to take a really long nap by the end of the season. Cause goodness knows they deserve it.

Life Unexpected
I am sad that it is over and I think if it had a real chance it could have become one of my favorite things ever. They were going through a second-year slump but I always enjoyed it. Lux was actually my least favorite character. She didn't deserve all those super-nice people. Tasha included. (Ksenia!)

Parenthood
The show I watch about the mundanities of familial life and the impossibly close liberal family. Everybody's got their good traits and their bad traits and I find myself being really compelled by that fact. It's just like life. And the script is really amazing. One of the best-written shows on TV, even if it's not about anything too terribly exciting. I catch this one every week.

The Vampire Diaries
I love Caroline Forbes. And how is Stefan Salvatore almost perfect in every conceivable way? Plus, the pacing and the WTF-ery, and how I actually think the shows canon "otp" is adorable beyond belief? It defies the laws of my fandom gravity, this show. But I agree with [livejournal.com profile] gigglemonster about this spoilery thing )

Plus! Elena's ponytail was awesome! Bottom line? This show is awesome.

I feel like I'm leaving something out, which hardly seems possible. I'll get back to you.

Randomly found Leonard Nemoy's twitter account and the above pic. Very cute.

→ I have decided that my hiatus is officially broken and not just so I can participate in five things. Things have been going on and I am not really feeling myself but, I guess I shouldn't punish myself any more than I already have been. So I'm back. In an official non-temporary capacity.

→ So I was thinking the other day that this year will mark six years since Brokeback Mountain. It kind of makes me wonder why we haven't seen too much else like this in the mainstream. Haven't really put much thought into it, but it did cross my mind.

→ I got off to a good start with five acts but then ended up totally crashing because I had to "cram" to finish up my festivids vid. Whoops.

→ I've been getting headaches at work almost predictably. They last almost my entire shift and when I come home I am totally exhausted. Sometimes the headaches persist but often they go away. I've never been prone to headaches, but I am thinking it could have something to do with not getting enough sleep? These headaches are not aided by pills at all it seems. (And yet I keep taking them, in vain.) I will try to adjust my sleep schedule and see what happens. If it goes on much longer I might have to break down and see a doctor.

→ It is slick and icy outside tonight and I was completely petrified when walking over to the neighbors house earlier. I feared for my life, not going to lie. I would much rather have snow. This winter is not as happy-making as it could be. And when I got home from this perilous journey, I promptly punched myself in the face. (Accidentally!)

→ I would really like to discuss this article: Generation Why? by Zadie Smith. It's in part a review of The Social Network and in part a really great examination of "facebook" itself and the culture of social media. Really thought-provoking. [I am not sure why I put "facebook" in quotes. It just felt right, I guess.]

→ I'm currently reading The Magicians by Lev Grossman. Not entirely sure how I feel about it. I'm halfway through. But it's entertaining enough anyway:

Janet was about as annoying as a person could be and still be your friend, but Quentin was never bored around her. She was passionately loyal, and if she was obnoxious it was only because she was so deeply tender-hearted. It made her easily wounded, and when she was wounded she lashed out. She tortured everybody around her, but only because she was more tortured than anyone. - The Magicians, Lev Grossman
