I don't think I will ever agree with anyone on Alaric. I don't think I've met a single fan as uninterested in him as I am. I would have rather Jenna lived, personally. And I can't tell you how many times I've heard that "we were going to kill him in ep. X but kept him on" and felt like they should have stuck with their original plan. Of course, it's also happened one or two times where it turned out well. I'm pretty sure that was said of Spike from Buffy. That he wasn't supposed to end up living past so long, but they kept him on. Which, I think was a good decision.

Tyler is a good example of how well these writers can develop characters when they try. He went from being a bully who almost date-raped Vicki to someone who recognizes his problems, regrets the things he did, and tries to control himself (though I wish they'd done more with him trying to make up everything he did or didn't do to Caroline - a redemption arc would have been really satisfying).

I honestly think the fact that he left town and wasn't coming back is a pretty big thing. From everything that's been said canonically about that, it was done to protect his family and friends (from himself) and to make up for what he did to Caroline. It could have been shown in the text, but it worked for me because it was a very humble way to do it. If he had chased after her and tried to make her forgive him, it wouldn't have worked as well for me. But then, I have major problems with how they handled Caroline's story in the last 5 episodes or so. She was just background girl. It was infuriating.

I do enjoy Katherine a lot. Especially her back story and how she really just misses her mom. That whole thing with her kind of gets to me even just thinking about it. The baby, and losing her entire family. Yeah. She's so clever too, I like that about her. And she's awful but she doesn't try to make it seem like she's anything else or like she should be excused for it, or like she's doing it for anybody's own good, you know? So I can respect that, lol.

I don't know who Becky is, but I'm sure she's going to annoy me, lol. Katherine is the perfect Katherine. We don't need another one. She's good enough for me! And honestly, I was anticipating Katherine making a disappearing act, just for poor Nina's sake. But I don't like the idea of a replacement.
