→ Just watched Another Earth. Gorgeous. And it made me cry several times. Loved Brit Marling, and William Mapother was pretty fantastic in it. I enjoy indie dramas because you get the chance to see people in roles they wouldn't necessarily be in. I like seeing the actors get to work with unique and thought-provoking material. With exceptions, this is not what movies are generally about - and it really isn't for everyone. The script was fantastic and broke my heart on several occasions. I appreciated that it did feel like something was actually happening in addition to all of the pathos. The movie Rabbit Hole had similar plot elements to this, right up to the idea of alternate universes and alternate selves. I enjoyed both. God, I miss being a movie nerd.

So, the cosmonaut. He's the first man ever to go into space, right? The Russians beat the Americans. So he goes up in this big space ship, but the only habitable part of it's very small. So the cosmonaut's in there, and he's got this portal window, and he's looking out of it, and he sees the curvature of the earth. For the first time. The first man to ever look at the planet he's from. And he's lost in that moment. And all of a sudden, this strange ticking begins coming out of the dashboard. He rips out the control panel, right? Takes out his tools, trying to find this sound -- trying to stop this sound. But he can't find it. He can't stop it. It keeps going. A few hours into this, it begins to feel like torture. A few days go by with this sound and he knows that this small sound will break him. He'll lose his mind. What's he going to do? He's up in space. Alone. In a space closet! He's got twenty-five days left to go with this sound. So the cosmonaut decides: the only way to save his sanity is to fall in love with this sound. So he closes his eyes and he goes into his imagination, and then he opens them. He doesn't hear a ticking anymore. He hears music. And he spends the remainder of his time sailing through space in total bliss and peace.

→ I have not actually had much to say lately. People (lovely lovely amazing people) wrote me fic and everything and I've just been off in la la land. Lurking and reading books and making shameless vids.

→ Misfits is back. (Yay!) Lost Girl is back. (Not even interested in watching this based on reviews I've read.) And I'm still behind on a lot of TV from last week. Fail boat.

→ I am reading Mindy Kaling's book, Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? (And Other Concerns) and so far I'm enjoying her tone but I'm barely into it so I can't say much more than that.

→ I love you and I miss you!

Dude, last night was the first time I heard about and saw a trailer for Another Earth. I immediately found a download and watched it and loved it. Rhoda's stories were absolutely beautiful. I just loved how quiet and simple it was--that the sci-fi element didn't overwhelm the characters, it just enhanced the story. I've never seen that girl in anything and she was absolutely stunning. Gotta watch that movie again tonight.

Ugh, I'm jealous. I've been waiting for months and months for this movie! MONTHS! It was torture. Haha.

Very excellent.

I'll be interested to hear your thoughts on the book. Mindy and I went to college together, and it's been fun watching her get famous. :-)

You know I was thinking that and was going to ask you! She's talked about her two college friends and how she was Kind of a Big Deal on campus because she participated in so many things. And I was thinking, didn't Katie go there? And aren't they close to the same age? Neat! She seems pretty awesome (based on what I've read so far.)

She was a year ahead of me, and yeah, she was a Big Deal. But she was always nice to me. :-)

I saw it twice in the theater! LOVED, LOVED IT! And her next movie (which she also co-wrote like Another Earth) will be with Alexander Skars--that guy from True Blood (haha) and Ellen Page.

Another Earth looks fantastic. Is it out on DVD yet? Must add it to the Netflix Blockbuster queue.

I'm impatiently waiting for my copy of Kaling's book to get here. Amazon is toying with me, I just know it.

It will be out on DVD in a few weeks. (The week of Thanksgiving maybe?)

I was going to read more today but instead I revised my Shameless vid (something that I pretty much never do) so I didn't have time. Gah, why can't I just have ALL THE TIME. I NEED IT.

OMG I KNOW RIGHT. I've been eager for this movie for literally years. I remember seeing 2 clips like 2 years ago on iO9 or something and I was like whoaaaaaa this a cool idea for a movie. I've read about every article they've released about it. Long interviews and really they were fun to read, so informative. About the behind the scenes of it and how it was made and all that. Every time there was a new interview I was even more eager.
And then the trailer finally came out and they had To Build a Home as the backing music track adn that song evokes Emotions™ so I was even moreeeeee into it, the trailer was so pretty.
Then the movie came out and NOW FINALLY I'VE SEEN IT. It was so subdued and natural and beautiful and just emotional. I cried a lot, too. It was just more like my eyes kept leaking, as I call it. Silent crying. The script was so wonderful and the direction and the actinggggggg. And the story itself. I could watch this movie over and over and never tire of it. Brit Marling is magnificent. Truly a wonderful human specimen. And I read William Mapother worked on the movie for only $100 a day. He liked the project so much he was fine with being paid that little. And it was sooo super indied low-budget. I've read so much about it. And I'm in love with this movie. It's gorgeous on so many levels.

I also remember hearing that about Mapother. It's nice when actors do that even if they're not big big stars. He definitely made the right choice! Which obviously you can agree, haha.

I want to watch it again at some point but not too soon. Although I do keep thinking about it. I loved her relationship with her co-worker and that last scene. Perfect.
