I invented a new word over at [livejournal.com profile] daybreak777's journal.

Netflixed = Inexplicably compelled to marathon a show (or watch a movie) just because you discover it's available on Netflix streaming. (Alternatively, this can refer to simply the act of watching something from/on netflix, but that's boring. This is better.)

Used in a sentence:
"I thought I would hate *insert name of show*, but I got netflixed."
"I couldn't stop watching old episodes of Roseanne last weekend. Netflixed, again!"

Examples:
Parks & Rec
Terriers (Although, that was more a long-awaited continuation.)
Switched at Birth (YES, It's true.)

Ha! I watch Switched at Birth too, although it's usually through Hulu Plus. I love seeing the sign language on the show.

I don't have Hulu Plus. The scenes with a lot of sign language are great because they're actually really well done. Not a lot of sound at all, which is totally fitting. And yet they still somehow manage to be extremely emotional despite not using all the usual "tricks."

I agree! I liked the scenes at the deaf school. You have to really pay attention, not just to the subtitles but their facial expressions. It's really interesting to get a teeny glimpse into the deaf world.

It's a brave little show in that way, isn't it.

What is this show of which you speak? I am intrigued!

(And will it make me cry for missing my kids from the deaf school in Cairo?)

It's an ABC Family show about two girls who were switched at birth and find out about it as teens. One is deaf and one is not. It's called (predictably) Switched at Birth.

Here is a promo, which doesn't really sell the show AT ALL:

And here is a (pretty spoilery) clip that shows an all-signing scene. I looked for that one because I remember it being very good:

Thus far, my only complaint with this show is that no deaf cafeteria is as quiet as the one in the pilot. (It is amazing how much noise fifty kids who can't hear can make.)

I totally don't remember that scene, but I know for a fact you're right about that based on just a handful of deaf students I have coming into the library from time to time.

Oh, ETA! I'm glad you're watching!

Ooh, Roseanne! I could totally get sucked into that. I think in the beginning I kept watching The Big Bang Theory because Darlene (Leslie) and David (Leonard on BBT) were on it. It was like watching them date again all grown up!

There is a show about dogs called Terriers? Really?

Roseanne is kind of my hero. That show was so fantastic and touched on so many important topics.

Oh no, haha! Terriers is a really great little scrappy P.I. show starring Donal Logue and Michael Raymond James. It's short-lived, but so worth the marathon. I watched the first several eps when it was on TV but then lost track of it and it was cancelled. :( I feel personal guilt about this fact, haha. It's set in San Diego.

This is the only promo I could find for it:

Hee. I thought it was some mini Dog Whisperer-like show, lol. It reminds me a bit of Entourage in some way. Hmmm.

Well maybe that's why I liked it, haha. (LOVED Entourage, for some inexplicable reason.)

I really feel like Donal Logue and Michael Raymond James are MASTERS. After watching this show I would literally watch anything else they are in EVER. Especially MRJ. I miss their characters so much.

I missed the part about Roseanne! That show is awesome.

I was totally Netflixed by Switched at Birth, too! Also, Greek and Kyle XY. I seem to be particularly vulnerable to ABC Family shows.

Hee! I am actually kind of surprised by how many people seem to have watched Switched at Birth. It's our secret shame, lol.
