I've been fooled before...

Since they actually *appear to have* made Meredith the killer (snore) and I have nothing else to speculate about, here are some recently revealed episode titles:

3x17 "Break On Through"
3x18 "The Murder of One"
3x19 "Heart of Darkness"
3x20 "Do Not Go Gentle"

(Not including 1912, episode 16, which has been known for a while.)

Who is breaking through to the other side?

I've been meaning to post about this, because like the day (or so) after the most recent episode, Matt Davis tweeted some cryptic shit (and here I thought I had unfollowed him) about loving the taste of vampire blood and that's why he drinks it regularly or something. That's a terrible paraphrase, but anyway, with a council-hating, likely human, killer running around, it stands to reason that Alaric's got a belly full of the stuff and after the flashback heavy post-hiatus episode, we could possibly resume on episode 3x17 with Alaric in (or having completed) his transition into a vampire.

Just something to think about...

I also remember Julie saying something about everyone in the room gasping when they pitched the back end of the season to the network. Turning a regular is something that could elicit such a response.

They were saying at the beginning of the season that the blood transfusion between Alaric and Klaus is going to have huge consequences for Alaric - my theory is that the problems with the ring are either the ring interfering with Klaus's blood healing him or Klaus's blood interfering with the ring healing him.

Interesting. I don't remember hearing that. However, I kinda wish I cared more. I think I keep hoping for this storyline to not totally bore me and it just keeps going in directions that are very ho hum to me. Meredith shooting Alaric is pretty much ONLY going to interest me, if he turns into a vampire. Otherwise, meh.

I know it's probably far-fetched, but my big prediction for this season since the start is that Elena's turning at the end of it. There have been so many anvils of shit like "It's because you're human, Elena." I hear that and my brain goes VAMPIRE ELENA. Plus I think it's the only way to organically have some new dynamics in the main triangle.

If she does turn, I want it to be her choice to do so. I mean, I suppose with Bill rejecting transition, we have a bit of a sense of "even if you didn't choose to not be human anymore, you still had a choice," but I think thematically it would be much more interesting for Elena to be like "you know, I hate this and I don't want it and I'd really rather be human, but for the sake of the world and the people around me, I need to turn."

I think that's even more unlikely than her turning at all, but you know.

I don't see how they could have Elena make this choice and have it be believable though. Like, I could see it happening without her being FORCED to make the choice, but I don't see how we could ever see her making this choice literally for herself without some kind of emotional or obligation-fueled manipulation going on.

I guess what I mean is one thread of "I want Elena to grow up." And you're probably correct in saying that that can't happen in the context of the show, but it's still what I want. I feel like, in some ways, she's starting to, but going back on the decision to betray Elijah felt like naive Elena, not manipulative-plotter-who-does-what-has-to-be-done-Elena who I'm really starting to enjoy.

And I guess I mean something that isn't exactly free choice, either. Like, that it would be a sacrifice she would make to prevent more hybrids, doppleganger magic, etc, and also to be strong enough to protect the people she cares about--it's still a choice, but a choice where the Originals have forced her hand, as opposed to something she actively wants for herself OR someone putting a gun to her head.

I really hope you're right. I don't really care about the dynamics in the main triangle personally, because they mostly make boring, typical decisions that make it uninteresting to me. It's probably always been one of the least dynamic part of the show for me. Elena turning into a vampire though could make it more compelling to watch.

I used to care about the triangle, lol. Not so much anymore, but vamp Elena might breathe some life into it and the show in general. I'd just like for the plots to stop being all about saving Elena's life above all others, and vamping her would definitively stop that. Win-win-win.

I have been liking the show more lately, but season three has still been my least favorite of all. My real wish is that they step it up in the rest of the back half.
