We're going to take a break on Galactica!Libs for now. (But don't forget to go vote in yesterday's poll! Here.)

Instead, I'm going to talk about real live cylons. Or you know, the possibility thereof.

Last night I found the following video. If you can believe it, it was one or two related videos away from the "no crying in basebaell!" clip from A League of Their Own. (Call it an experiment.)

One thing that struck me about this robot, was that it looked almost organic, in a way. Just in the way it's designed, I guess. It reminded me kind of of that sea-life or those goldfish with no pigment. Cause you can almost see through to its components. It looks like something you'd "dissect" rather than take apart. Obviously, it sounds and moves robotically, maybe it's just the clever design or the jointy-ness of it that was particularly mesmerizing.

After thirty minutes (or just two) I scrolled through related videos and found this:

I'm not going to lie, I was a bit freaked. I mean, she's no Number Six, and they've certainly got a long way to go. But creepy? Yes it is. They even have creepy futuristic sci-fi names. Actroids.

Flashforward fifty years: Will be in the midst of the first Actroid revolution?

I think the craziest part is when they zoom in on her face and her eyes are moving and the lashes and just. Eeek! There are a lot of others in the related vids, but she's the only one I found that was speaking English. Some of them look even more realistic. Their mouths are the worst part though.

I have a feeling, though I did absolutely no research, that this is sorta like Jim Hensen. Somewhere behind the scenes are probably a bunch of puppeteers controlling her every movement. And honestly, if that's the case, it makes her simultaneously less cool, and less creepy. But still!

What does everybody think of the possibility of actual humanoid robots? Yes? No? Get that frakking thing away from me? Etc. etc.

ETA: Dancing Robots. Seriously amazing. I'm convinced there's little people inside:

ETA2: An android saying goodbye to his creators. Um... seriously? They tell him they love him. He says goodbye to a baby who reaches up and touches his face. Wow. But he also tells him that "one day I will come and find you." Creepy! Even though it looks a bit staged. The robot is all, "I love you like a brother." And the dude is like, "You're awesome." Hahaha. Okay. I'm stepping away from youtube now. Hahaha. PROMISE.

BRB, gotta go call the blade runners.

and all you were trying to do was promote your cause further by pretending to dislike it while trolling the comments for people that would defend it so that you could add them to the list of sympathizers to your cause.

I'VE SEEN ALIAS. I KNOW THE SPY TRICKS.

'cause I got fry mad at me with my incessant pestering and she decided that I absolutely couldn't be a cylon no matter what.
I was upset for a while.

but then I realized that I have moral superiority over all the other cylons and possibly leoben will take a liking to me.

ALSO I HAVE BECOME A CYLON HUNTER.

I gotta say, the dancing robots are awesome. And it doesn't seem like they really make any noise either. Very sleek! They remind me of Centurions.

HOLY CRAP!!! Cylons are real!?!?

It's a scary thought. And who knows maybe one day they'll be wandering around...maybe they're even already living amongst us! Eeek!!!

Oooh. Excellent post. The development in robots has me tremendously excited- the commercials for robot products even more so. The Roomba vacuum robot commercial has a tag line "Let the robot do the cleaning" which isn't that intimidating but whoa! We're beginning to get into robotic use for everyday tasks. It's all very !!!!

I FRACKING HATE ROBOTS. WE ARE SERIOUSLY ALL DOOMED.
Though I'm leaning towards it being more likely a Terminator future instead of a BSG one.

You know, even more werid that I know is not on YT is from these DVDs of The Universe. And this particular epiosde was about alien galaxies and what kind of life lived there and it was talking about nanobots that could record everything that made you you in every way. All the neurons and cells...and you could be put into a new body with all your memories and all that jazz and the first thing I said was 'CYLONS!!!'. I'll see if I can record it on my camera. I can't rip or burn DVDs as my computer is crappy and can't do it.

That Asian robot ain't no BuffyBot, anyway. They should call upon Warren's spirit and ask him how he did it. I sure want to know.
