So according to the Hollywood Reporter there's a Buffy film re-boot in the works which does not in any capacity involve Whedon or any connection to to show at all. I'm sort of intrigued, given the fact that a lot of reboots have been fairly successful and well-done, and yet I'm viciously skeptical and maybe a little bit protective.

Wh... What? How would that work exactly? Without Whedon and any connection to the show?

I have no clue.

I'm very less than thrilled about this, since I feel like a lot of what made Buffy Buffy, for better or worse, really had little to with the premise itself and everything to do with Whedon.

If they really want to pull a do-ever on Buffy, they need to do what BSG did and wait about thirty years 'til we're all old and gray, and snag the new demographics with it.

Yeah I thought the same thing. It's just too soon (and a too beloved fandom.) I'm not sure how it will work without being compared ruthlessly to the show.

I think it's WAY too soon. The tv show has only been off the air a few years, ffs. There's still technically new canon going on in the comics. And to not use any of the supporting characters that Whedon introduced? Superfail.

Yeah how long has the show been gone? There just hasn't been enough time.

I haven't seen a single episode of Buffy and even I think this is a bad idea. I don't see the point in remaking a show that went off the air like five years ago.

I can see they want to cash in on the possiblity of a film franchise, possible other slayers, not just Buffy, which would be an interesting theory if not for the fact that the show is so recent.

I don't wanna go crazy fangirl, but I'm less than wild about this idea. Joss is what made Buffy Buffy. I don't know how that's gonna work.

Yeah I'm not sure either.

Star Trek reboot, yes.

Buffy reboot without Joss who totally took a cute, fun movie and made it badass and funny and all shades of awesome--I can't say I'm too thrilled, but then again it may be okay.

They do talk about making it even darker, which... the show went pretty dark... as dark as it probably could at the time on tv. So I'm interested to see what they would do with it but they're going to have to work for those ticket sales by making a really super good product. The name isn't going to bring me, or any die-hard Buffy fans that I know, on recognition alone.

Huh. I don't know. I have a hard time believing that they could really pull it off "without trampling on the beloved existing universe" lol.
I mean you sure as heck can't out-do Joss's Buffy, but can you really re-do it either?
Maybe I'm being cynical but it kinda just seems like a way for those people to get a buck out of the whole vampire craze that's been going on.

Yeah I agree. It will be so hard not to compare it. Especially if they have similar characters. Even if they have a watcher which is from the original mythology. How can we NOT compare him to Giles? (And doesn't everyone fail when compared to Giles?)

Hahah yeah that pretty much sums it up. It's more like I don't want to write it off and say it will DEFINITELY suck but that's in conflict with the other 75% of my brain that knows it will DEFINITELY suck. Hehehe.

You don't want to pre-judge things but at that same time... how can we not?
