Oh my gosh I've missed this place. I mean it's not the same place, but I really miss it.
Talk to me. Tell me something good, something bad, something in between? What have you been watching/reading? What movies are you looking forward to? What are you currently obsessed with? Tried any good recipes lately? What are you doing for christmas???
MISS YOU LOVE YOU!

Date: 2016-12-14 02:03 am (UTC)I finished a really good book today called The Chilbury Ladies' Choir
by Jennifer Ryan. It's takes place during WWII. When the men go off to war, the ladies are left behind, and the choir uses their song to uplift the town and themselves. It's told through letters, and it made me cry.

Date: 2016-12-14 02:19 am (UTC)And I have a new colleague who is kind of...prickly. But I fully intend to wear her down with a sustained campaign of niceness. New boss seems cool.
We're all going out to my sister's in the 'burbs on Christmas Day and she's going to cook a turkey. She's 37 years old and has never cooked a turkey before, so I'm contemplating possible food poisoning at Christmas. Or maybe we'll eat at 9 pm. My mother keeps texting me with dire forebodings about how the turkey dinner will go now SHE'S not the one cooking it, and I keep having to remind her to be supportive of Sister's attempts to learn new things.
We are in the middle of a deep freeze, by Vancouver standards. Last Monday it snowed and it took me 2 hours to get to work (my usual commute is 30 minutes). This city just shuts DOWN when there are a few inches of snow. Nobody can drive in it, the buses don't run, the Skytrain doesn't run, it's a frelling nightmare.
Oh, and the Alex Fraser Bridge (major arterial route linking quite a lot of suburban areas with the city) has been closed down more than once because large chunks of ice and snow are falling vast distances from the top of the bridge onto people's windshields, and smashing them (also shocking the hell out of the poor drivers). Apparently it never occurred to the bridge engineers, a few decades ago, that sometimes it snows here and maybe they should design a bridge that doesn't facilitate large chunks of ice and snow building up at the top of the bridge pillars and plummeting onto cars. Every time we get a cold winter (which, admittedly, is only every 2 or 3 years), they have to close the damn bridge and make it safe. Such a foreseeable design flaw, given our climate!

Date: 2016-12-16 02:45 pm (UTC)I like this phrase "sustained campaign of niceness" hahaha. Perfect. I hope that goes well!
We just got the cold front yesterday here in virginia. Much colder than it has been. I swear there have been several days in the past few weeks when it was 70-80. And now it's in the teens and twenties. Waiting for a snow storm. I couldn't possibly dream of a white christmas. it would be too miraculous. (Not that I believe in miracles.)
That bridge trouble sounds crazy! Someone needs to fix that!

Date: 2016-12-14 03:36 am (UTC)I just got back from Disney World! I am super excited for Christmas though it's coming up so quickly. Plans are to open presents with my parents and sister in the morning before heading to my aunt's house to spend the day with Mom's side of the family. What are your plans for Christmas? =)

Date: 2016-12-16 03:09 pm (UTC)My friend Ariella doesn't have anywhere to be so I've invited her to spend Christmas with my family. But it's not just my family, it's my mom, dad, and some friends in town (for a month!) from Germany. And then of course on Christmas Eve my brother and his family/kids will come up, but only for that night. Then on the 26th the day after Christmas I'm going to a ski resort for a timeshare meeting thing? I'm DEFINITELY NOT signing up for a timeshare, lol. I'm just going to get a $250.00 gift card, and a voucher for a 2 night 3 day stay at said ski resort that I have to use within 6 months. (All of which I "won" when I filled out this entry form at the pet expo.) I know it's all about the sell, but I just want my free vacation/vacation money. Anyway, the logic for setting the meeting on the day after Christmas is that we can spend the entire day at the resort and do whatever we want, and I'm allowed to bring guests with me so I'll take my mom, The Germans (2), and Ariella. Should be a good time. Hopefully there will be snow so we can sled! I'm super stoked! So even if it's not snowy on Christmas, the very next day I'm going TO the snow. It will be good!
I live about an hour south of my parents, and today is my last day of REAL work until January 3rd. Woot! (All paid off too! So good!) Anyway, I would love to take the ENTIRE time off (it's 2 weeks and 3 days I think?) But I am going to babysit tonight, tomorrow, Monday (ALL DAY) and Wednesday morning. I really want to go up on the 22nd to my parents and just STAY until the 30th, (babysitting on the 31st for sure, possibly the 30th, too.) But even if I stay the entire 8 days, I'll probably have to come back to Richmond at least once or twice before then.
Another Christmas-y thing I'm looking forward to is this Tuesday! The Germans and my parents are all coming down and we're all taking this trolley tour to see all the tacky lights in and around Richmond. It's going to be great. Ariella is coming too and my friend Marilyn may also do it!

Date: 2016-12-14 07:17 pm (UTC)Still stanning Stucky and the MCU. Loved Victoria, Stranger Things and The Get Down (obsessed over Xtina's Telepathy). Liked Westworld (Thandie Newton's Maeve is everything)
p.s. 2016 was such a bitch and I'm scared that in the last few days, something's going to happen to trump...well, Trump.

Date: 2016-12-15 03:05 am (UTC)I haven't been scared of it but I've had a similar feeling. I hope not, though. The country is already in such . . . straits . . . I wanted to reply though that you're not the only one thinking it . . .

Date: 2016-12-16 03:13 pm (UTC)Stranger Things was freaking amazing. Loved it. I need to sit down and watch the pilot of Westworld when I'm not about to fall asleep. I've had to turn it off and go to bed twice already. Not because it's boring but because I have no time to watch TV and I keep trying to watch it before "bed" which is usually "way after my bedtime already" so I just don't have the energy to stay awake!
I am not sure anything, barring something completely apocalyptic/preposterous, could trump that! (Should I be scared?)
