Her tone, so angry, really set me off. I can understand her point, I just wish she had written it more clinically and not as emotionally. I can't say I agree with every thing she's said - on a ship you call the Captain 'Sir' because that's part of the structure for maintaining order, even on a non-military ship like Serenity... it's not necessarily a white man vs black woman beatdown.

It is interesting reading the comments. There will be pages of comments, I think. I don't care to get involved because I prefer to be very practical and inquisitive and I am sure I would get my ass handed to me.

I'm sorry, but I couldn't even get through that thing, despite the fact that I was trying to read it objectively (since I have never seen a single thing in Joss-verse, Firefly included).

What the author of that is completely MISSING is that some women choose to use their sexuality to make money and get the things they want. Perhaps Inara(?) chooses this life. I don't know the show or movie or whatever it is and I probably never will, but I have known numerous women who choose this route in life and enjoy it. For _allecto_ to rip on it simply because the character in question was created by a man? Is insulting, at best.

ETA: I read some of the comments at the bottom out of morbid curiosity and I found that the one person who was willing to say that they disagreed with her view was indirectly referred to as "pro-prostitution" and was told that all further pro-prostitution comments would be deleted. Apparently _allecto_ doesn't realize that if you use a fandom as an example for controversial opinions, sometimes people are going to disagree with you.

I totally agree. But further than that, someone that can't understand that the captain of ship is called "sir" lacks some kind of basic comprehension skills if you ask me. It isn't indicative of anything except that he's the frakking captain of the ship.
