I totally agree. But further than that, someone that can't understand that the captain of ship is called "sir" lacks some kind of basic comprehension skills if you ask me. It isn't indicative of anything except that he's the frakking captain of the ship.

And they obviously don't get what is clearly sarcasm and joking amongst the crew. It's funny when Mal says that about Kaylee because he doesn't mean it. If he meant it, it woudln't be funny.
