Unpopular Opinions You Didn't Ask For
May. 19th, 2009 10:34 pmI'm pretty notorious for having the least popular opinions you can have in fandom. I'm not sure why. And it's not as though I'm trying, it just is, you know? It would be far easier for me if this weren't the case. I am this way because Jacob made me this way, by the way.
PROOF
→ I can't bring myself to write and [generally] don't desire to read 80-90% of canon pairings. It's a disease. Which may or may not be contagious. *coughs on you*
I can't help it that I chronically multi-ship. My motto? Make me believe. That is all I ask. [I'm not sure if that part is terribly unpopular.]
→ [I often still enjoy the canon representations of the pairings that I don't read/write in fic.]
→ We've discussed my relationship with Juliet from Lost, yes? Everyone loves her. Me, not so much. [I also had major issues with Charlie, Ben, and Locke.]
→ The same goes for Eric from True Blood. And the Sookie Stackhouse book series. And I'm on book four. I'm pretty sure he's the most popular character next to Sookie herself.
→ Everyone seems to be really liking Glee. Whereas I watched the first half-hour the other day and quit halfway through, call it lack of sleep mixed with lack of interest. Maybe the 2nd half makes up for it?
→ If my phone hadn't died I'd still be voting for Kris Allen. Have I mentioned I don't actually watch the show?
→ I prefer Ronon/Sheppard to McShep. [But I still like McShep!]
→ Misha Collins kind of gives me the heebs. Fine, I said it! [Feel free to use icons of him when you respond to this post, Dayl.]
→ I am sure there's more I can't think of at the moment. How does one pick examples from their perpetual state of being? It all just runs together. I'm damn contrary, okay?

Date: 2009-05-20 04:30 pm (UTC)I really wasn't impressed once. Not like I was with Kris. Who by the way - grew on me and won me over. The Adam non-love doesn't stem from blind Kris devotion. I just will always prefer the humble.

Date: 2009-05-21 05:57 pm (UTC)I suppose it really is a different sort of competition once you eliminate all but two. You'll have people voting for so-and-so because they're die-hard and people not voting for so-and-so just because they don't like them and at that point there's only one other person left to vote for.
Wow even saying it is confusing.
I'm obviously happy he didn't win. I felt his performances (the ones I saw) were all style and no substance. WOOEOEOEOOWOWOWWO. Etc. Less of a Ray LaMontagne/John Mayer and more of a Britney Spears/Beyonce style performer. And when I say it that way it's not really fair (though easy) to compare the two. Different animals, man.
According to a lot of the comments I've read on a few of the major news articles I saw popping up at google news, people are starting to say Adam lost because America is homophobic. Which probably isn't a stretch -- (is he even gay? I don't know) -- but I remember looking at stats from some of those places online that measure them and Adam was at the top of the list almost every time. So if that's the only possible reason for him to lose, how come so many people were voting him into the top spot in the weeks prior?
And he oozes the kind of rock that is so popular today. (Which I could do without, personally.) The style of clothing, the hair, the make-up, the over-the-top ness. etc. So how is he not fitting in with what America likes? He's a walking trend.
Honestly, I just found him annoying.

Date: 2009-05-21 08:18 pm (UTC)I really don't think it's homophobia though. I just think there are a lot of people in America like me - people who don't like having someone shoved down their throat. I don't like runs (woogoigoo oohwo ooohooo is right) and I don't like shrieking ballad type caberet numbers - but even if I did I wouldn't have voted for Adam just because everyone told me too. He was on EW last week for God's sake and he hadn't even won yet. How's that fair?
That was a funny article by the way.
Adam will be fine, probably better than Kris because hopefully he'll get more freedom to record the kind of album he wants to (the kind of album we will never buy)- I'm not crying a river for him because this country runs on bigotry. I would have had a lot more respect for him if he'd been out and proud and lost. Being "I am what I am" and losing isn't fighting the good fight. If you aren't playing the gay card you don't get to blame it for your defeat. He lost fair and square because little teenage girls like my niece own the world. You can't think faster than they dial/text. Maybe he should have dressed like a vampire more.
