I'm pretty notorious for having the least popular opinions you can have in fandom. I'm not sure why. And it's not as though I'm trying, it just is, you know? It would be far easier for me if this weren't the case. I am this way because Jacob made me this way, by the way.

PROOF

→ I can't bring myself to write and [generally] don't desire to read 80-90% of canon pairings. It's a disease. Which may or may not be contagious. *coughs on you*

I can't help it that I chronically multi-ship. My motto? Make me believe. That is all I ask. [I'm not sure if that part is terribly unpopular.]

→ [I often still enjoy the canon representations of the pairings that I don't read/write in fic.]

→ We've discussed my relationship with Juliet from Lost, yes? Everyone loves her. Me, not so much. [I also had major issues with Charlie, Ben, and Locke.]

→ The same goes for Eric from True Blood. And the Sookie Stackhouse book series. And I'm on book four. I'm pretty sure he's the most popular character next to Sookie herself.

→ Everyone seems to be really liking Glee. Whereas I watched the first half-hour the other day and quit halfway through, call it lack of sleep mixed with lack of interest. Maybe the 2nd half makes up for it?

→ If my phone hadn't died I'd still be voting for Kris Allen. Have I mentioned I don't actually watch the show?

→ I prefer Ronon/Sheppard to McShep. [But I still like McShep!]

→ Misha Collins kind of gives me the heebs. Fine, I said it! [Feel free to use icons of him when you respond to this post, Dayl.]

→ I am sure there's more I can't think of at the moment. How does one pick examples from their perpetual state of being? It all just runs together. I'm damn contrary, okay?

Re Glee: I think the Pilot suffered from some lack of direction, but for serious, the last 5 minutes pretty much makes up for that.

It's just funner to have a variety of ships. It's fun to experiment and like you said, make it believable. I'm definitely with you on that

And Eric, meh. And Juliet ugh.

Awwwww Ronon and Sheppard ♥ ♥

Yeah, me too, re: canon pairings, but then, slasher here, so that's no surprise. Is disinterest in canon pairings rare among het readers/writers? Because it's kind of de rigeur for slashers, natch.

I don't watch SGA but I can't see why anyone wouldn't want to slash Ronon. He's gorgeous!

Misha is ♥LOVE♥!! The more you know, the more you love him - clearly you've not exposed yourself enough to the sparkly fabulousness that is Misha Collins! Resistance is futile!

From: [identity profile] crickets.livejournal.com
I think disinterest in canon pairings is more rare (especially if you're looking outside of livejournal.) That doesn't mean that those readers/writers of canon pairings aren't interested in other pairings in addition to that. (Which is what I meant when I said that part probably wasn't that unpopular, I should edit to be more clear.)

I get the feeling a lot of fans watch the show for certain canon pairings and that's the reason they'll start to participate in a particular fandom in the first place. Obviously, this isn't true with most slashers. I have written a little slash but am more comfortable writing het. I read both slash and het so I guess I kind of forgot about your poor slashers. *snuggles you*

He really is, hah. I just feel there's more tension/angst/seriousness to that pairing. But I like them both actually!

I guess if I had any interest in Supernatural at all any more I might feel differently. But as of the moment... hehe.

I enjoyed Glee because I'm a geek (and a music geek at that), and I enjoy the idea of a show where the geeks get what they want. And the music was really fun. *shrugs* I'd like to have some TV time that doesn't make me sad or make me feel stupid, that's all.

I will have to try again. I didn't realize it was coming in the fall though. I thought it was going to be a summer series.

And yet I love Starbuck. But I feel their characters are complete opposites. Starbuck has much more in common with Sawyer than Juliet.

Like I said on another post, I'm indifferent toward Juliet. Except that I'm hoping her death starts breaking down the Quadrangle of DOOM into nothingness! *is hopeful*

And I HATE Ben and Locke as well. I was pretty okay with Charlie most of the time though. [MY unpopular opinion: I have a huge problem with Claire! I do not want her back on this show!]

*spams you with the Misha because you said we Dayln could* :D → Okay, I'll admit, he does inspire heebes if you don't really know his work or his personality. :)

I'm going to have to start using adblock plus on your icons, hahaha.

Yeah I remember. I obviously disagree with Claire but that is mostly because I fic her. The character on the show has been really poorly treated and I can easily see why anyone could consider her a waste of space and screentime.

Aw, but not everybody feels that way right? But in general, one of the most die hard canon/main!couple fandoms I've come across is BSG. I'm not sure why that is, but it actually kind of creeps me out. For a show that lives so outside the box, the fandom seems quite content to stay in it.

I prefer the McShep of non-slash variety. I am not a slasher. When I say McShep I mean purely their friendship and interactions with each other as the show puts it is enough for me. They are just the best to me but I do love Ronon and Sheppard as well. And Ronon by himself. Hahah that episode where Woolsey asks him for his Mission Report on tape. And it's, like 10 words total? I laughed so hard for so long at that.

I don't love or hate Juliet. She's purely neutral in my book. She's pretty but I always felt she had ulterior motives. Idk.

My favorite character from True Blood is LaFayette. Bitch, you gonna eat my food the way I fucking MAKE IT.

Misha is an odd duck. But I love him for it.

Glee's last 5 minutes are epic! It's such a happy show like Pushing Daisies. It makes me smile. I hope it does well this fall!

I was so conflicted on what icon to use! A Glee icon, SGA, Lost, Castiel or my TB LaFayette icon. :P

I seriously loved that show. It could be so cheesy and campy but the characters were absolutely great which is the thing that attracted me to the show. I just want to group!hug them all!

I think those were my feelings for a while but I think I grew more and more frustrated with the level of focus the show (and to some extent the fandom) puts on her). That kind of turned my indifference to rage.

Hah! Wow! That's even more than I'm willing to say.

But what if a show takes a pairing you love that is thoroughly un-canon that you're sure will never ever be canon, and somehow makes it canon, even slightly canon. (Mark/Lexie from Greys, Kara/Leoben from BSG are two of mine.) What do you do then?

My exceptions in fic are most usually these types of couples. The "I shipped it before" type couples.

I missed Glee last night and now am even more curious about it. So I'll find a way to get ahold of it this weekend.

I agree about Misha. (And I know first hand how unpopular that particular opinion is. And I've got the scars to prove it.)

As I am mostly a het shipper, (either canon or non-canon, but usually not the lead couple) I know how unusual it is to go against the grain. On that I totally sympathize.

I gave up on Lost long ago, but I actually do like Juliette!

I have been told that the un-aired pilot (which is what I was watching) was much more difficult to watch, and that the aired pilot is much more viewer-friendly. So I'll be checking out the aired pilot soon.

Scars? Scary. Do tell, I'd like to hear this.

I think BSG, like I was saying to someone above, is the most thoroughly stuck on the main couple/s fandom that I've ever come across. It's really... well pretty frightening. Even liking secondary couples was like a cardinal sin in that fandom in certain places.

Half the reason I never take comment fic is because I'm afraid people are going to ask me for something canon, hahahaha. (The other half is I am suffering writer's block, but that's another story.)

So yeah, I may have had a 14 year old (and five of her friends) texting for two hours solid. And then I may have called myself for two hours (only got through 7 times). And I may have called my mother on the house phone to tie up her only line so she couldn't call for Adam.

;)

Honestly... and this is probably going to make me a bad person... I just hope he loses so that he can fade into oblivion and I never have to see his face again. The 3 or 4 times when I've caught a performance of his while my parents were watching downstairs, I have NOT liked it. I don't see the appeal and I don't like his singing (what I've seen of it.)

Here's my unpopular fandom opinion: I wasn't opposed to Kennedy in Buffy season 7. I guess I can understand why people hated her so passionately, but I felt there were other characters who deserved the hatred a little more. Rona, for example, I could never stand, and I know people who thought she was OMG Such a Strong Character!

If I watched the shows you watched, I'm sure I'd have similar feelings myself. I think it comes from free thinking.

You know I heart unconventional ships, right? I don't know of anyone else who's as crazy about THE CLAWN as I am, and that's my favorite.

Date: 2009-05-20 05:19 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] crickets.livejournal.com
I barely remember who Rona even is. Hahaha.

Several of the potentials could have had a little more... potential, that is.

I also didn't hate Kennedy. I don't know why everyone hated her so much. In my opinion it was mostly backlash about Tara. I even put Kennedy in my girlpower vid, heh. Her character (and that relationship) wasn't perfect, but she wasn't deserving of all the hate either.

You know what is a lot more unpopular than this whole post? Being a Kate fan. And also - people like non-canon pairings in this fandom. A lot. They don't like Sawyer/Kate, though.

Also - what is Glee?

Date: 2009-05-20 08:38 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] crickets.livejournal.com
True about being a Kate fan. Honestly, I think "not hating Kate" was pretty unpopular for a time. Even being indifferent to her seemed rare.

Re: Non-Canon. Sure, except I'm not just talking about the Lost fandom.

Lost, especially on livejournal (not necessarily other fannish spaces), has a lot of people who are mutli-ship non-canon writers/readers, which is one of the reasons why I said that probably wasn't that unpopular.

But when you look at other fandoms, for example BSG, being a major one, the fic in that fandom is very canon-centric (except for the femmeslash for some reason). You just have to glance at the newsletter once to see that. (Lee/Kara, or Roslin/Adama down the line almost every time.)

As a fic writer/reader, having absolutely zero interest in writing or reading probably 9 out of 10 canon pairings or more is probably pretty rare. [Unless you're a dedicated slasher, as Mrs. [livejournal.com profile] zelda_zee pointed out.]

take it that way: at least you have opinions! so many people are like sheep and sway with the wind. I may have more 'popular' ones, but I make them my own in a way.

I wish I had stumbled upon more Ronon/sheppard.... I just happened to find McShep writers and read all of their fics (and I'll admit loving it so), but I was never against variety ;)

ahhh, Misha. well I'll keep him if you don't mind. ;)

Yes this is true. I don't mind it so much actually.

But I guess sometimes when I get into a new fandom (or even watch a new episode of an old one) I'm focused on the material and I get ideas about pairings or characters I like or thoughts on certain plotlines and episodes and then when I head into the fandom I'm hoping (not actively entirely) for some kind of... not connection, I'm not sure I know the right word. I just know that when I then go into the fandom and the character everyone loves is the one character I hate, or just in general find that my thoughts on something are in complete opposition to the majority of fandom etc. I think not again. Because it's, like I said, my perpetual state of being, hah.

I will gladly let you! ;)

I swear it is my mission to write some Ronon/Sheppard some day.
